My crankcase seems to have been sealed with a type of "Permatex" gasket maker. I used to use this alot on motorcycles 20 years ago but have not used it much since.
What did the factory use?
What do you use?

I know a lot of people use the brown Permatex air craft sealant on the case halves..
I currently use the Dow Corning 730.

I cant really tell you what is in it. I do know it works however. A lot of the old school 911 engine builders swear buy it. Most of the new factory Porsche race manuels tell you to use some sort of Hylomar on the case halves.
Bottom line is: you dont want anything that hardens. The Dow corning stays soft and pliable no matter how hot/oily it gets.
Look for threads from "Porsche735" he spoke highly about another sealant used by engine builders..but I dont recall what it is right now.

Raby floss.
Jake likes to use Dental floss around the bottom of the engine where the case halves come together.
