914World.com _ 914World Garage _ East Coast Cookout 2007

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jun 8 2007, 09:57 AM

ECC will take place Sept 15th in Frederick MD.

http://www.evite.com/app/publicUrl/rleonardccemtp@hotmail.com/ECC2007

The evite is to help us identify how many people will be there, so we can get all the food and drinks and chairs needed. Sign up and let us know.

Matt has said that setting up a blanket to sell parts on is OK. But, he asks that the amount of parts that you bring to sell be able to fit in a 914. IE, don't load up your f-250 with parts to sell. Matt does not want his back yard to turn into the Hershey Swap Meet. biggrin.gif

The event will be held at Plas76targa's home.
The address is:
7188 Meadowbrooke Drive
Frederick, MD 21702
You can show up as early as noon.
There is a pool, bring a suit and towel.
There will be a drive with Photo-ops at 4.
There will be crash space for those who can't safely drive home afterwards.
Matt has suggested that any of you "planning" to not be able to drive home safely, to bring a tent, as floor space may be limited. Camp out on the back 50!

I'd hate to see this event die, but I have heard nothing about whether or not there is any planning for it.

Anyone know?

Is Kerry even still active any more?

Zach

I will host it and pay for everything but of course it is a long way to travel all of the way down here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (maybe we could have it on Block Island! fifty 914s on the ferry from point judith would be a great picture!)

Posted by: r_towle Jun 8 2007, 11:00 AM

There is a good idea!!!

Do you have access to a place for an all day BBQ? possibly camping also??

block island would be a amazing venue.
However maybe if we get a dedicated group we could pin a map of their residences and do something in the middle!

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jun 8 2007, 11:20 AM

I would have to ask my wife about it, but I might have the space to host, either at my place in York PA, or at Potapsco State Park in Baltimore MD.

Having it in Altlanta would be awesome, but I doubt we would be able to draw many of the Northerners. The same goes for having up North for the southern folks. Northern VA to Southern PA is about equidistant to everyone, and we have a fairly large owner comunity.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jun 8 2007, 12:20 PM

I sent an email to Kerry off the boards to sound out his feelings on ECC 2007. I'll see if he gets back to me, and will report in on what his interest level is.

I have a contact just south of VA Beach, near the North Carolina Border. It's 6 hours from Eastern PA and about 7 from Atlanta.

Or....Zach and Matt, we could hook up and try to nail down Patapsco.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jun 8 2007, 05:08 PM

I chatted with Kerry. He is fallout from the December Divorce, but is will to help however he can to get ECC2007 back on track. I will volenteer to help plan it, but I am going to be buried in school work most of the time, so I won't be able to take charge. My MBA, plus sitting for my PMP in august plus work is going to have me it to be tied.

ECC will draw about 30 - 50 914s and assorted other vehicles if it is held in the Mid-Atlantic. I think it is the Mckeldon Shelter at Patapsco Park can hold near 200 cars, has spaces for grilling, open grass, some volleyball courts and a large pavilion shelter. No camping, though - and we would need to clean up before we left. There is a fee to use it, $200 if memory serves. If people are interested, I will look into it further.

At my place in York, we can put 50 914s in so long as the owners don't mind parking on the lawn. I have yet to clear with my wife, so it is NOT a definate location - yet at least.

So, cliffs notes:
1)Kerry will help, but will not lead
2)I will help, but will not lead
3)Someone need to step up to lead
4)Possible Locations in PA, RI, MD, VA and GA. Best locations will be in the Central PA - northern VA area.

I will be out in the woods all weekend, and will check back in on monday.

Lets make this HAPPEN!

Take back yer manhoods and stand up ! Stand up against the tyranny of the vageen. Stand up for what is right and just in the world. Be men. Be leaders. Be firm in your stance, put your foot down and say "NAY women Ye shall bide by MY rules now! Your days of rule are gone and my brethren WILL be here and you WILL NOT cause any disturbances, nor shall ye hold me by the sack afterwards, for I am MAN and I know what is best for you and I. Now GO women, GO and make me some pancakes. Be ye prepared to make MANY pancakes for there WILL be an onslaught of my compatriats on our lawn. YES! Date was set as of today. ECC will happen September 15th. We are working on the location now.

Zach

Zach

I should be able to make that date, good time to test-run the car before driving it 4 hours each way for my wedding 2 weeks later.

Posted by: jimkelly Jun 12 2007, 03:13 PM

for those unable to attend the past 2 or has it been 3 ecc's - there were about 15-20 914 in attendance - cool : )

count me in regardless of location - i have two road worthy 914 to choose from as of this momment : )

Dammit, it is going to be the same weekend as this again this year:

http://www.allaircooledgathering.com/

Crap.

It is an all aircooled gathering (obviously), there is plenty of space for another 30-50 cars, there is camping the night before and is at a great venue (old german-american resort). Plus it is already being run by the central jersey VW society (no leaders needed). Unfortunately in Northern NJ it is a bit farther than the previous ECCs, but only 1.5 hours further than the one Kerry hosted at his house in PA.

Any interest in making it the "ECC" at least for this year? It would be cool to see a bunch of 914s on that lawn this year.

Caroline (last year's hostess) was after me to volunteer my place near I-81 and I-70 in Western Maryland. Although I have plenty of space to park cars, I have only one bathroom. Not sure how that would have worked out.

piratenanner.gif That's terrific that a site has been chosen in Maryland this time... I was gettin' ready to belly up my place again (the other half may be out of town, so why not? Heh heh heh...) BUT, the new site sounds great. And, for what it's worth, hosting the event is a piece of cake, this is one truly great and truly gracious group of 914 owners!

Now, if Ace Mechanic can just get Babydoll runnin' right... she's got major TPS switch problems which turn her into a slow runnin' buckin' bronko. Once that's conquered, I'll/we'll be there for sure! Let me know if I can help in any way...

MATT, YOU ROCK! smilie_pokal.gif

Looks like we could be getting a keg of something yummy as well. drunk.gif

The good Dr. Evil has agreed to make a donation of something or other to the event. I need to start pestering the other member-vendors to see if they would be so kind.

I'd like to be able to offer shirts as cool as the ones that were set up for the Atomic Ramble, but I fear that the compressed time schedule won't have them ready to be sold in time.

O.K. , Who locally can be in charge of getting a Keg of that brown foamy stuff

They must be a highly respecded pillar of the comunity, Oh I forgot we all are.

Driving my 914 from N.W. Ohio doesn't bode well to bring a keg.

So If someone will take the responsibility of aquiring it,and making sure it is

there at the correct time and Temp. I'll buy it as my donation, I have know idea

as to price in that area. Sam Adams maybe????? And What size????? the

person who takes charge of that ,let me know the price and i will send a check or pay pal.

If Sam Adams isn't ok,then pick your favorite. Dave slap.gif beerchug.gif

P.S.

Also I need the name ans address of a ok motel close to the site, nothing fancy

just a place to sleep . Dave

Posted by: zymurgist Jun 29 2007, 05:41 AM

Wow Dave, that's really generous! Sam Adams rocks, or we also have fine Maryland and Pennsyltucky beers readily available too... Clipper City, Flying Dog (they recently bought the Frederick brewery), Appalachian Brewing, Troegs, Stoudts, Victory, oh yeah, I sample them all when I get the chance. beer.gif

I'm the guy who started the whole keg tangent. I'm planning on brewing a batch specifically for the cookout... my kegs are only 5 gallons since I use Corny kegs (which used to be used for Coca-Cola before they switched to the aseptic bag system). Anyway, the current plan is to do a hoppy IPA and dry hop it in the keg for more of that hop aroma. I love the hops... they way they smell, the flavor they impart to my beers, the way they have sticky buds with crystals that look just like... well, you get the picture.

Posted by: plas76targa Jun 29 2007, 09:34 AM

We actually have a sizeable front lawn. You long distance folks could camp out overnight if you'd like. And there's carpeted floorspace in the basement too.

A Hampton Inn is 2 miles away as well.

Barber Dave - Frederick has some nice "Local Brew's" - I could look into them to find some suitable "suds".

I'd be going nuts if I did'nt have the six to play with since I've been getting the LE ready for Charolette next year. The six may be a pig but the Civic, DD, has no umph & long rides in the six are happy11.gif .

anybody heard from Kerry?

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jul 9 2007, 08:56 AM

I sent him an email back in June, which he responded to. I don't think he checks here at all. I am not even sure if he has his 914, he was talking about selling it last year.

Zach

Posted by: rleonardccemtp Jul 9 2007, 09:05 PM

I got a reply from my email last week. He was to put together all his info from last year and send it to me. I've not heard from him since. I'll shoot another email reminder to him tonight and see what's up.

Matt, can you contact that hotel near you and see if they're willing to cough up a good group rate for 10 or more rooms? If they need more "persuading" let me know.

I've got a source lined up for T-shirts, we can do heat transfer or embroidery. I'm trying to wait for Kerry, but we may need to create our own logo. Any graphic artists out there?

.....movin' right along!

This batch had an OG of 1.060. If it ferments down to 1.016 (the last batch I made with these ingredients and a similar yeast) it should end up right around 6.0 percent ABV. I was thinking of boosting the OG with 2 pounds of corn sugar (since it's a hoppy beer it would probably mask the sugar flavor) but I decided instead to stick with a known good recipe rather than experimenting.

Home made beer that is aging on the hops as I type this. I'll tell you what, I made a batch with the exact same recipe but only added the dry hops when it went into the keg, and it's on tap in the kitchen now, and it just doesn't taste the same. It has to age with the dry hops... you can't add the dry hops at the last moment and expect it to be good. At any rate, I have one empty keg reserved for the batch of "Jackstand IPA." Here's hoping that the CO2 tank holds out. beerchug.gif

More official ECC info!

There is going to be an evite posted here and at all the other 914 boards we can think of. If you are going to come, please let us know via the evite so we can count heads, and make sure we have enough food and booze to feed you mongrels.

Teeners are welcome to start showing up to Matts place @ NOON.
Matt has a pool. Bring a suit.
No skinny dipping (JPB I am looking at you here biggrin.gif )
At 4 there will be a teener drive, with several photo ops along the way.
Matt has crash space for all teeners who 1)refuse to go home or 2)are way to ****ed up to go home.

And here is a word from our host on address and directions:

QUOTE(plas76targa @ Aug 9 2007, 02:46 PM) *

hey guys,, new address is 7188 Meadowbrooke Dr, Frederick, MD 21702

I was thinking of putting a mapquest page or two in a posting for all..

short directions where you'd come through or near DC, Baltimore, or Hagerstown:
either Rt 270 North out of DC - becomes Rt15 N, or west on 70 from Balt, or East on 70 from Hagerstown, MD - exit to Rt 15 north at Frederick.
two choices - 1)

-take Exit 16, Motter Ave/Opposumtown Pike exit
-at top of exit bare right onto Opposumtown Pike
-go 2.2 miles and at first FOUR WAY stop sign turn LEft - Opposumtown Pike continues on this left
- go .5 miles to left into Meadowbrooke development / Meadowbrooke drive
- keep right as Meadowbrooke Dr is just a large oval
- we're the 6th house on right, all yellow house.

choice 2)
-rather than exit 16 continue North on 15 to mile post 17 - left to Willow RD (caution crossing southbound traffic)
-go .6 miles, left onto Willowbrooke
-go maybe .4 mile to fourway stop and right onto Opposumtown Pike
- .6 to left into meadowbrooke
- keep right, sixth house on right

There is nothing more entertaining than to see someone who laughs at every strupid thing one says just because they see dollar signs everytime you walk by. He even laughed when I asked him if it was okay for me to leave if I could doubly my salary. Needless to say, he didn't laugh anymore when I left the day he said I could leave which was the following Wednesday. Linear speech and talking "in the box" is so over rated. Like I say to many, no pride implied here, I understand you, all your dialects, even those you make repeat their sentences over and over again and this isn't even my freekin language! Damn Engs, their words and thier world domination. av-943.gif

All this talk about pitching tents.. this post might be out of place, but Scotty B asked about hotels.. Here are the numbers to the three closest -

Hampton Inn, 2.2 miles ph 301-696-1565

Holiday Inn, 5 miles, ph 301-662-5141

Comfort Inn, 5 miles, ph 301-662-0281

Who mentioned drums? My son William has a starter set he might lend you- but you'll have to ask him nicely! biggrin.gif

I'm not too concerned about the marraige test, Mike.. but I am starting to feel concern for my "new" neighbors..

BTW - we put the vomit comit to gether last week - only one drunken fool is allowed on the trampoline at any one time!

PM me if any one needs directions.

Posted by: rleonardccemtp Aug 25 2007, 01:34 PM

Wow, this is really stacking up nicely! beerchug.gif

I have an extra tent I can bring.

Doc, I'll re-try that email thing individually; see if we can't dodge the spam filter.

Speaking of T's (or tease, for this group) grouphug.gif , the decal for the back is done. We are working on sprucing up the logo provided by Jonathan for the front.

Here's the back:

Wow, hey Rich wonder if that could be stamped onto some paper or those thicker pick nic plates (real plates would be really awesome). out of time for that I suppose,, and I have no clue where either

BTW - we have at least two tents we can offer -- for those who don't have trunk space

I'll be coming in the 914 if no rain and the A6 if raining. I just can't envision a cruise on 309/22/78/81/83/15 being any fun in the rain in a 914.

In the evening I'll be moving on to my brother's place in Leesburg, VA. This way my 914 will be able to hang out in a garage on Sat night. Plus getting in a round of golf on Sunday before heading home.

I just made reservations at the Holiday Inn for Fri. and Sat night. I can,t do the camping thing. My old bones don't take to well to that any more. Maybe if i get in
early enough I,ll mosey over to the hosts house and add to the confusion. Starting to get pumped up, need to get a few cosmetic things done and install new ( to me ) exhaust system. I don't relish the idea of driveing 450 miles,in the 914 one way, with a hole the size of a credit card in the muffler. See you all there Dave slap.gif

Oh my Vulva will be there. Nice and cold too thanks to the superb A.C. aktion035.gif You driving a teener or the truck?

Posted by: JPB Sep 8 2007, 07:44 PM

Unfortunately the truck since the teener needs to keep them ever so precious miles for something crazy from that carzy 2366. Limited mile for limited fun until the next build$$$$$. If you wanna caravan, that would be very cool. Bringing some drums? How many? beer.gif

I'll be coming up from Charlotte to my father's house in Richmond on Friday.... then leaving from Richmond on Saturday morning. My teener is cut open and getting prepped for major surgery, so I'll be in my expedition.

If there is a meeting point around Richmond way, let me know.

Mike we could certainly make one !! IIRC your dad is on the southside right? I remember you knowing my area fairly well. Either way I'll be heading out 288 to 95 N. Let me know what you want to do. I also need to call JPB and see what he is planning on doing.

Scotty... my father's house is in the west end.... near 295 and 64. IIRC you are coming from out powhattan way.... you could come 288 north to 64... then we could hook up somewhere around 288/64/295 (short pump area)..... zip out 295 and catch 95 north of town.

Huh. I guess that I would go west in PA to take advantage of the great 914 roads, then grind down 95. Rt 30 is slower, but it is a very pretty drive. I understand the value of "just getting there" too. We will see you there!

Posted by: type11969 Sep 10 2007, 09:43 AM

Hmm, you present an interesting point. My 914 will be keeping my jackstands busy, but I'll either be coming down in my Beetle or (gasp) Miata. Either one is more fun on backroads. Taking my time driving down there seems like a good idea, I'd be willing to meet up somewhere . . .

Now that I am seriously thinking about it, as one of the event planners I should probably be aiming to get there earlier then everyone else to help set up, get last minute stuff, etc. I might be a very poor choice to try and caravan with.

I'm leaving from the PA/DE border on 95 south Sat a.m.

I may have my son follow in his VW for backup/support.

I tapped the 5 gallon keg of Jackstand Pale Ale last night. Y'see, I have to do some quality checking to make absolutely sure that it's fit to drink. beer3.gif

It's pale, a bit cloudy, probably more balanced towards the maltiness rather than the hoppiness, but very quaffable. I'm going to crank up the CO2 a bit so it should be nice and fizzy by Saturday. beerchug.gif

Great to hear it--thanks to Jim McL who alerted me-- we need other ways to spread the word--I would have missed it otherwise. HOW LATE in the day does it run??- couldn't find that anywhere?

QUOTE(Vacca Rabite @ Jun 8 2007, 08:57 AM) *

Unfortunately for all of you other attendees, I will be coming solo on this trip after all. My much better half won't be coming with me. She is in the middle of packing up her house to move into a new place and her daughter has a soccer game that day, too. Now I just need to get out of a semi-obligation Saturday morning so I can leave early with Jim Kelly.

Matt,

Is there a list of food/drink to bring? If nothing in particular is needed, I (yeah right, er, my wife) can make a taco dip but it would need to be microwaved if your wife will let us in the house.

Looks like it's still 914 weather. driving.gif

Use the "get directions" option, put in your starting location and the address of the party. from there you can print them to your hearts content.

The party will run until it ends. Some people are camping out in the yard till sunday.

We have it advertised here, it is stickied at the 914club board, there is a posting at NARP, Samba, Pelican (I think) and Rennlist. f you have other ideas for advertising it, please let us know and we will see if we can't round up some other last minuters.

Oh I almost forgot... How many 914's?

olympic914.jpg

Posted by: rleonardccemtp Sep 12 2007, 10:36 PM

Head count so far is 54! aktion035.gif

A car count is difficult....between posts here and on the evite....at least 14 914's, 2 beetles and at least one 911. driving.gif driving-girl.gif

I know someone who has a 20' x 40' foot canopy that I'm trying to borrow. He was out of town until this evening so I'll catch him tomorrow.

Guitars? Many are threatening....all are welcome. Amps? aktion035.gif ! Watch the neighbors run for the hills!

2 Kegs, one from a commercial brewery and one homebrew - "Jackstand IPA"

I've got dibs on the tramp....oline!

O.K. , Who locally can be in charge of getting a Keg of that brown foamy stuff

Dave

Are you still in for the keg? I'll pick it up and bring it, unless someone else has already claimed the privilege.

So let me see if I understand this. You're saying that just Noel thinks you could use a trailer car (loaded with party stuff, parts, and mostly tools). But you believe a trailer car ain't needed.

Man!.... I don't know how good yer kanicle skills are, ('cept I did see your tool bag once when you flashed it while working on a tranny!

I'd never turn down a trailer car dude! Especially one with a babe drivin' it!

ECC folks: I'll have a few items for sale-- esp. a muffler. A "glasspack" (as described by the former owner, who works at the local Midas Muffler), it's almost new. He used it at Summit Point a bit-- on a 2.0 with carbs. After I bought the car from him, it seemed way too loud for my street, so I got a Bursche, which is only a little too loud. This unit has dual muffler cans, with four chromed tips. Most of the paint is still there. Places that were hot long enough to disturb the paint have a little surface rust-- nothing more. Just hand wire-brush it off. I'd like $165 for it. If you have a track car and want easier breathing, this is the one to put on.
If you want to 'reserve' first refusal, pm me before the ECC. I'll have it in the trunk regardless, since I'll never use it on either of my cars. -Chris Hager in Falls Church, vA

It's drizzly here in Hagerstown, 35 miles away. We put Babydoll under the new Redneck Car Cover, consisting of a pair of bedsheets, a bedspread, an old shower curtain, and a tarp, all held down by a cinder block and a rock. What a freak'n great event I wish I could have stayed longer, but my wife is pregnant, and that pretty much trumps everything. So when she said it was time to go, it was time to go.

I can tell it was a great event though. We were there for 7 hours, and when we left it seemed like I had just got there. It started when Mike, Noel, Ray and his son all showed up at my place around 11:30. Immediatly Mike was going for tools to adjust Ray's shifter. We all caravaned down, me leading in the Subaru, Mike on the BMW /6, Noel and Erin in the Vue, and Ray and is son in the 914. We had ~50 people show, and about 15 914s, 2 912Es, 1 944, 1 T4 converted superbeetle, and 1 kicks ass sandrail (which I still want a ride in!). The party was still going strong at 8 when we kicked out.

So: some pics from the event! I did not get any of the group pics. I hope someone will post them, as I would like to see them.

I filled up with gas before we left town, and calculated my gas mileage at [b]40.339 mpg! We got home about 10 p.m. (without a hitch or glich) and I-95 traffic was heavy, but flowing well.

Thanks guys!

Great event ! Matt and his wife were wonderful hosts with a beautiful house ! Ken's Jackstand home brew was a huge hit beer3.gif beer3.gif beer3.gif Great last night however the beers aftereffects this morning were a little ......rough headbang.gif That's certainly not Kens fault though. We saw everything from concours to barely legal (street legal that is!).

As soon as I finish batch shrinking photos, I'll post 'em. It seems I took alot of pics of my car....I must be partial!

My personal favorites: Evan's red, the sandrail and the 1.8 GTI

Can't wait till next year!

YOU all are awesome. I had a great time as host and will be in debt to Katherine for a long time. She pulled off the hat trick by ordering the food and arranging it in all the garage, and cleaned it all up on Sunday.

Root - special thanks to you for reinstalling my fuel pump. Folks the car runs! So, Al (Johnny Blackstain), referencing your photo, that car is now nestled in the garage, next to it's younger brother - the 76 911s.

Wow, I can't believe it's over. A truely fun time had by all. Let's not wait until next year to gather - whether a few or many.

Oh yeah, Zach I believe you left a red foldup chair. Now that the car runs I could zip up to York to drop it off.

How the heck did I miss that? You get it while I was out with Ray for gear oil? Erin saw it, so I know it was before we kicked out. Thats cool as hell dude! Hey, did you (well, Noel) remember the cooler?

I have to say, my personal favorite cars are pretty much the same as Ricks.
My top 2 arn't even 914s. That T4 bug, and the sandrail. Way cool. After that, the yellow 914 with the 1.8T and the red 914. Really pretty car.

That yellow car was funny. I bunch of us are standing looking at the back. "What engine is that?" I recognized the manifold, so I said, I think its either the 18.8t or the 2.0t from a modern VW.

Yeah, the car was badged 1.8t. Where the hell were you, Capt. Obvious? 4 guys looking at the ass end of that car, and none of us paid attention to the badging. The keg had not even been capped yet.

Zach

Any pictures of the 1.8T car?

Posted by: zymurgist Sep 17 2007, 06:45 AM

I'm glad y'all enjoyed the beer. beerchug.gif It was a really simple one, really...

Mash-Tea:
1 lb. M20 crystal malt, steeped at 150 degrees for 30 minutes in 1.5 gallons water; collect the tea for the boil.

Full Wort Boil (using 8 gallon kettle and Cajun cooker):
7 lb. Muntons extra light dry malt extract
1 oz. Centennial leaf hops @ 9.8% - 60 min.
1 oz. Fuggles leaf hops @3.6% - 30 min.
1 tsp. Irish moss - 15 min.
1 oz. Fuggles leaf hops @ 3.6% - Flameout
Chill to 75 degrees before pitching yeast; add water as needed to make 5 gallons

Yeast:
1 packet Nottingham dry yeast, hydrated in 1 cup cooled boiled water

Ferment in primary for 4 days. Place 1 ounce Fuggles leaf hops in secondary and rack beer onto hops. Secondary time just under 6 weeks; rack to keg and force carbonate.

OG: 1.060
FG: 1.014
ABV: 6.1%

I use Muntons extra light for almost all extract batches any more. It never gives me a sour "extracty" taste. But I think the leaf hops really make it... almost all of my pale ales use leaf (rather than pellet) hops.

And of course the magic secret ingredient... all my beers are brewed with love.

Any pictures of the 1.8T car?

None of the engine area, at least that I took. it was parked under a tree, and the engine was very shaded. If I had shot it, it would have been too dark to see detail.

The rear trunk was removed, with a tube frame for support. The 1.8 engine is a TALL engine, and the engine bar was really close to the ground. 3-4 inches for ground clearance max. With the rain tray removed, he had a little more room to move the engine up, but they had measured height with the rain tray in. It looked like a really solid conversion, so long as you did not need your rear trunk.

The turbo sat out behind the engine, I don't think he was running an intercooler.

This was the car from the outside. Note all the folks checking out the engine.

Thanks to everyone for an unforgettable time. Matt and family, thanks so much for hosting this event, and also for giving me the honor of leading our cruise. As this was my first 914 event, that made it all the more memorable. Hope I didn't drive too slow for everyone, but we were trying to keep the group together (still lost a few!).

Ken, that was some killer homebrew. pray.gif I'm going to try to make your recipe sometime.

Everybody was cool. I got some great ideas for my car. Can't wait until the next get-together!

It was a great event, too bad I had to be the first one to leave sad.gif
Nice meeting a lot of new faces and seeing some really trick cars...seriously...I haven't see stuff like a 1.8T, 2.7 w/ crank-fire, a 3.2, rat-rod 305v8 and other assorted goodies in one place before...not to mention 2 mint condition 912Es, and a Beatle type IV transplant.

Great stuff, just VERY sad I couldn't sample the beer before I had to leave.

I'll stay longer next year, that's for sure!

Posted by: atomix8 Sep 17 2007, 11:58 AM

Matt thanks again for hosting, it was a great event. Sorry I couldn't stay longer to enjoy the food and the beer...but I did at least get to Pittsburgh by 9pm (plenty of time to drink much worse brew).

It was fantastic to see everything from almost stock to incredibly modified there!

Got a wave from a Ferrari F430 driver, a Lotus Elise driver and a Boxster S on the one hour drive back to Baltimore. In other words, purchase price justified wink.gif.

Posted by: Spoke Sep 17 2007, 04:19 PM

Matt & Katherine,

Thanks for a great time. Thanks Zach for pulling this together. Hope we didn't piss off the neighbors with all the exotic cars. Here's the good doc at work.

I finished off the weekend with a good round of golf with my brother in Leesburg. On the 168 yard par 3 18th over water, I birdied the hole with a 40 foot putt...after putting 2 balls in the water. mad.gif

Got an additional treat today of a trip around the tarmac at Dulles Airport. My bro's company was finishing concrete on the new terminal and he had to drop off a trailer full of equipment. At one point we were driving along the tarmac right beside a 737 taxi'ing to its gate. Didn't get to see any 747s but there was an Airbus A340 and a 777 parked.

Attached ImageActually the turbo is in it's stock position on the side, and the intercooler sits to the back of the engine. All together it is too tall for the rain tray, more reason to go faster! The mission of this car is an auto-x toy 1st. I put all the steel panels, doors, and street seats back on for this road trip.

Thanks for your support! I actually had additional homebrew, but it was freshly bottled and it hadn't fully carbonated yet. I'm not too crazy about flat beer. Seems like those 9.5% Belgians take a little while to mature. drunk.gif

Fall is almost here, so it's cider time. I bought 5 gallons of fresh pressed cider from a local farm. It's UV sanitized (no heat) so it's very fresh and appley tasting. No heat = pectins aren't set, so it should ferment out very clear, just like last year. I got the cider from their fridge and poured it into a glass fermenter to let it warm up to room temperature... after several hours, I threw in some yeast nutrient and a packet of my favorite ale yeast. That should be done in a few weeks. beer3.gif

Oh yeah, also threw together an all-grain brown ale. I'm getting tired of having only "thick and heavy" beers on tap. This one is a lawnmower beer, and the preliminary samples (pre-fermentation) are spectacular... I'm thinking of having only session beers on tap and bottling the heavy, high-octane stuff. Unless it's a keg for a special event, of course! beerchug.gif

I gotta practice with that cowbell...

That would be awesome... she's shakin' like Katherine Hepburn, but she could certainly make it out there. I'm thinking most of the week-ends in the middle of October would work, for me at any rate... heck, this week-end is supposed to be LOVELY, how 'bout this Saturday (the 29th)? Scott G. is sending me a replacement, working TPS switch, I should have it any day now. Ken says I have timing problems, among other issues. Sigh. I could show up with either brownies or a batch o' chili, (bribe food, we call that), Ken could bring homemade beer, and we could have a good time, like we did last time we met at Root's. Of course, this is predicated upon the availability of the shop in Sterling... you really serious about this?

You guys are too cool, you know that, right?!?!
