I love these cars. Hope you do too.

WOW and WOW and WOW!
I love the old GP stuff. THANKS.
I love the era of BIG FAT tires and when you could see the engines.
Greats pics T.C.
absolutely gorgeous...i get goosebumps seeing those..thanks!
NICKE,
WOW - this is a couple of nice photos
this reminds me of the time when my dad took me to the F1 race in Austria in the late 70ies and early 80ies
these times it was no problem to get into the paddock
that was so much fun
at the racing weekend they had so much races in different classes
now there's only the GP2 and the F1 and that's all ...
thanks for sharing
Gustl
For me, It was going home, as I grew up in Watkins Glen and my Godfather was Competition Chairman at the track. Went to every GP between 1966 to 1979, as well as T/A, Can-Am, FIA Endurance and SCCA Nationals. I've had the opportunity to race there twice in Formula Ford.

now I just digged out some old race photos from the Austrian Grand Prix 1983
I got my 1st photo camara a couple of weeks prior to the GP as my birthday present. This camera had no zoom, so the race cars are very little on the photos ...
Zhe quality is poor due to the fact that it was a really cheap camera and I just scanned them
1st: the Alfa cup
Attached image(s)
2nd: the Formel V series
the photo shows the start area and the paddock
this year was very special, because it was the first time with a helicopter for the ambulance - you can see it on the roof of the medical center, at the end of the pit roof (o.k. - you need to know that it is yellow and you need good eyes )
Attached image(s)
3rd: Formula 1 Grand Prix of Austria, August 14, 1983
this is the McLaren Ford of Niki Lauda (our national hero - 3 times F1 World Champion) - he finished 6th (in 1984 he won his home race)

cool, Gustl! This is the time capsul thread. Back to my favorite era of motorsports.
4th: also race day
I'm not sure about these two, but IIRC the blue one is a Toleman Hart (possibly driven by Derrik Warwik) and the green one might be Osella Alfa Romeo with Corrado Fabi on the wheel?
Attached image(s)
5th: F1 race
this one is clear, it's René Arnoux in Ferrari #28 - he finished 2nd
Attached image(s)
6th: F1 race
"The Professor" - Alain Prost in the Renault RE 40 - he was the winner of this GP

I just found this one Jo Siffert exiting the old pits at Watkins Glen on a foggy morning. circa 1971?

Great pictures. I love those old F1 cars, they seemed so much more simple and looked like a race car instead of a giant wing with wheels.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks to everyone for the great pics!
Konrad
I don't think the green one is the Osella...they were blue in '83...

Great pictures! I love this era of F1...
Waaaaagh, I miss living within a (long) day's drive of The Glen!!
But thanks for posting all these fabulous pics, they're saving my brain rotting away during this 2 hour conference call...
Here's a picture of a skinny Mario Andretti at the same test day as the previous Jo Siffert picture. Mario would not go out in the fog. I had this picture blown up years ago, and now has Mario's signature. Gosh, I had some good access even I was 12 years old.

So glad I came back for another fix of these cars. Thanks fellers for these added treats.
This is a great picture. If you look close you'll see a Ferrari.
