I think it looks kewl, not much driving time here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. I just wish it was closer, I would love to take a closer look and drive.

I was waiting for this to show up here.

I think the roll bar does it.

Maybe it would look better with the individual rollbars around each seat!

This guy just bought it a year or so ago. I recall reading the original write up on the car (much more detail from the guy who built it)

That was a question I emailed the seller. I remember it being somewhere for sale or bid.
The rollbar is not something I would add. The inner braceing is probably a good idea, if done correctly.
I still like it, and would like to get a closer look. II also asked him to send more pics.

I like it, the roll bar seems too high, but other than that, it's neat.

I like it. It needs a duel torpedo head rest in place of the rear chopped off targa bar and engine lid. Real easy to fab up from glas or sheet metal. It could be made to open for engine service. Also needs a duel roll bar hoop. that would get rid of the hacked off targa bar look.

IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN THIS CAR...... I HAVE SEEN IT, INSPECTED IT THOUROUGHLY, DRIVEN IT, MET THE OWNER, ETC..... YOU NAME IT.

If you want the real scoop... no bullshit... both good and bad (this car is both), then write me at my e-mail address. Not here, cause I'm not real good about logging on regularly.

Thanks

Look at the sellers name..... markroling or something like that...... that IS the builder... he's been trying to sell this for a LONG time. I almost bought it, but decided not to.

It is nice... and definately different. It is STRICTLY a track car though... don't even TRY to drive this thing on the street. I did..... wow.. that was interesting.

I think it looks bitchin cool.gif I agree would look better with a different roll bar. I might even consider that type of layout for my auto-x car. where would a guy source the front windscreen?

Posted by: Brad Roberts Dec 15 2003, 01:01 PM

I like it also. It needs 17's and to have the engine cover area redone. It looks out of whack with how he did the targa area.

Actually... the owner really did do a good job on the bodywork.... the car is straight, and the paint was really nice too. A couple of panels didn't quite line up, but nothing too severe or un-fixable.

I know the car had EVERYTHING removed that wasn't absolutely necessary, and he had the car down to 1700lbs.

It moved very well, handled even better... but the lack of a roof, and the EXTREMELY harsh ride is what kinda turned me off. The suspension on this thing was really stiff...... if you're not wearing the harness, a pothole will bounce you clean out of the car.... seriously.

For an auto X car though....... VERY nice

It needs help, but not a ton. I have the engine lid problem worked out.

Sean had a great idea about the rollbar, it would include adding some of it back.

It's a skateboard version of what my 72 would have been.

i like it. i would of ledt the targa bar and no rear window and went from there. or i would do individual seat hoops.

where do you get that windscreen?

Posted by: redshift Dec 15 2003, 04:25 PM

Aaron..

That would look like CRAP!

You know.. I had one person write me about this car, and after I read the letter that I wrote in response.. I realized that I think i gave him more of a reason NOT to buy it than anything else. I re-read the ad, and this car is being highly misrepresented. I figure in all fairnessI'd clue everyone in on the real scoop... to make it fair for everyone. Definately don't want someone buying this thing unless they have the real story.

So anyway.. here's my full report of everything I remember. Hope it helps anyone that may be interested:

I looked into buying this car a little under a year
ago. I liked it, and came very close. But, at the
time, the car had not been legally registered or
insured for several years. Considering I partially
financed the car, the bank did not find this
favorable. This, along with several other factors
were the reason I didn't get it, and chose the one I
have now. I'll just list everything good and bad. If
you have any other questions, please ask, I'll try to
be as thorough as possible. Keep in mind, this was
almost a year ago that I looked at it.

1. Paint and bodywork were very good. (if you like
that style) The color is GM "torch red" The frame
looked great, no rust, etc. The electrical looked
kinda "frankensteined" up under the dash, but all the
lights worked.
2. Mechanically, the engine/tranny felt great. Motor
ran great... VERY loud though.
3. The car was EXTREMELY stiff, and very tight
(Suspension was VERY harsh, and very low). This is
great for an auto X car.. but I drove it on the
street, and hit a small pothole, and if I weren't
wearing the harness, I would have bounced right out of
the car. Definately would not recommend taking kids
out for a ride (I have a 7 year old)
4. Car has racing slicks on it. Great on the track,
but it picked up every little pebble on the road and
flung it up in the fenderwells.. very noisy.
5. EVERYTHING that was necessary to reduce weight was
removed.. literally EVERYTHING. All the
weatherstripping, the trunk springs, the carpet, you
name it, it was removed. I think the car was 1700
lbs.
6. There is no roof..... at all The roll bar is a
little funny looking, but it is also a little
crooked.. like it wasn't shaped quite correctly. Its
hard to see in the pics, but trust me, you'll
definately notice it in person.
7. Although the paint and bodywork on the individual
panels was good.... it seems like none of them lined
up correctly. For instance, the front trunk wobbled
back and forth, door gaps were uneven, etc.
8. Battery was relocated to the front trunk... but
the engine compartment was very clean.
9. the seats are from an early mustang... I think.
They were kind of dirty though.
10. The custom dash was clean, but I remember that
the glovebox door had no hinges, it was just "RTV'd"
in the dash. I hit a bump, and it fell to the floor.
11. The windshield is plexiglass... and had about a 2
inch crack in it over on the pass side.
12. The tops of the doors were covered with a
fabricated piece of wood.... I didn't like it.

Overall, the car was pretty neat... It needed nothing
major, but a WHOLE LOT of minor stuff. It was being
shown by a classic car museum in STL at the time, and
I offered $5500 for it. The owner accepted it, and I
know that the museum got like $1000 of that.. which
means he was taking $4500 for it. Then the financing
thing became a hassle, and I started thinking about
rain..... so I just dropped the whole deal.

Considering he's been trying to sell it for a year
now... If you're still interested, I'd start with a
$3500 offer, and maybe go from there.. your call
though.

Hope all this helps. Let me know if you have any
other questions. Sorry, I did have good pics a long
time ago.. but deleted them when I dropped the deal.

I like it. It has a 550 spyder feel. I also like the 550 better WITHOUT the roll loop ar15.gif

I've seen pics of a 70's 911 redone 356 style that was really kewl looking. cool.gif

My $.0002
