Last week I drove last few miles with no clutch. I thought cable broke, but clevis at peddle assembly split.

It was easy fix (I have had a spare cable and hardware just in case).

But is this "normal"?

probably means your cable is not adjusted right and when you press down on the clutch pedal, you over-extend (stretch) the cable.

there's a adjustable rubber stop for the clutch pedal ...

And I have been teaching my 19 year old 225# son how to drive the stick.

Guess I need to set that stop!
