914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Long Island Aircooled Head Work

Posted by: solex Sep 17 2007, 08:57 PM

Hi,

I need to have some welding done on my heads, the port tubes for the air pump on one side are stripped. Does anyone know of a reputable shop that can do this kind of work in Nassau county?

Thanks,
Dan

Shipping is not too bad for a set of heads. I shipped mine Len Hoffman in GA, even though I'm 45 minutes away. Had them refurbished right.

Len is the man, sending your heads anywhere else means that a TIV head specialist won't be working on them- you'll see how important that is in a few miles when you have to repair their deficiencies (most of the time)

We see the aftermath and hear the stories all the time from local shops working with these heads. Its the same old story "I should have spent the money the first time, But....."

Its a classic.

Thanks guys, I called Len and know that there would be no problem when I get them back. I was looking for a cheaper option but I guess it will be cheaper in the long run to have Len rebuild them.

Also I was not planing on a full rebuild and after reading the posts about top-end rebuilds I started to get a little worried about the money out flow.

Cheaper now is ALWAYS more expensive later. When you bolt the heads back on you will have the piece of mind that they will take a 500* CHT and still not fail.

Len's methods of TIV head manipulation are absolutely unparalleled- thats why we sell them all over the world and all my engines get them.
