What: MidA get together
Where: Sterling VA
Why: Fix babydoll (and other cars that need fixing) and drink homebrew.
When: Oct. 20th
Who: Anyone that want to come
Meet for breakfast at 7:30 at Amphora's.
Have breakfast, and move on to Roots place to fix stuff and drink beer.
More info as it becomes avalible.
Hmmm. I have a few "big" beers in bottles as well as some dark ale (about 1/3 keg left). I'm thinking:
Bottles
Belgian Tripel - aging nicely, over 9%
Double IPA - not really hoppy enough to be a double IPA, 8%, still bottle conditioning
Last year's cider - tastes pretty good if you pour it right
Keg
Dark ale based on Charlie Papzian's "Danger Knows No Favorites Dunkel", more of a chewy grainy taste than hoppy. Also have a Nut Brown Ale that's even chewier, but that will probably be gone this weekend (the keg is so light, I wouldn't bother bringing it).
There's a new all-grain IPA that is waay too hoppy for its own good. This one would be for hopheads and masochists only.
LOL. Short notice no good, eh? Haven't heard from Rod yet, either, and my next wide open week-end is Oct. 20th. That may be my only next free Sat., tho' Sundays are still OK (tho' I hear that zymurgist Ken doesn't like Sundays). How's that work?
i'd like to add a job to the task list (in addition to improving Babydoll). i have a welding job that needs to be done: the "receiver/nut" that the stock seat belt mounts to, located at the right hip of the passenger, needs to be welded/fixed. root mentioned he has the "skilz" so this get together would be perfect for that. consider that the pca potomac club race at summit point is Oct 5-7 and there is the last pca potomac tech inspection Oct 27 (but someone in another thread asked to avoid 10/27 due to giving a Halloween party). Nov 3 should still be good weather, too.
I'd like to weld in a new battery tray & support in the six because I'm moving the battery back where it belongs. She needs room for the oil cooler duct & the battery is in the way.
No can do this weekend & 1st weekend in Oct is out. Oct 28 is also out cause of the PCA/Shenandoah Fall Foliage Tour.
I totally want in. Any weekend in October other than the fist one should be good for me. I think we should just set the date and let the chips fall where they may. I have to go to this get together since I live 10 minutes away (if it is going to be at Rods shop)! I think we should stay away from November. Yes weather is still pretty nice but it's more likely to have a sunny mid 80s day in mid October.
CRY-M-Netleys:
You guys really are something,i am thinking about driveing over.
I will check mapQuest ,post a final date and address. DAVE
i got my eye on this event
I vote first of november ? Al, your battery tray isn't (shouldn't) be a one day event. To do the job properly the engine should be removed. It would be real pain ( not to mention dangerous) to do the with engine installed. Oh and I'm in for the sweet ass cider-beer. Have fun with that Mike
Definite maybe
Well, folks, from the replies so far, the most commonly available week-end seems to be Oct. 20. Nov. seems soooo far away for an Octoberfest, doncha' think? The beginning and the end of Oct. seem to be busy for all of us, but the 20th - can do that one? The beer will be well-brewed, and I make awfully good chili! Of course, the first week-end of Nov. would make a good rain-date. Is any of this ok with you Rod ("Root"), oh noble host of the Up-Fixin'-der-914 shenanigans?
I can't make the 20th, but I'll pencil in the rain date! It was good meeting all of you at the ECC Cookout. (I was the young guy with the nice steering wheel ;-) )
calling Root, the host of the event..... how does sat Oct 20th look for you?
Let's schedule it for Saturday October 20th
Just like last year let's kick off the event at 7:30AM at Amphora's.
It's open to all ninefourteeners!
If you have a reasonable size task you'd like help on at this event announce it here in this thread.
Current Task list:
1. Babydoll - tuning issue -find what's ailing her and fixit!
2. Type47 - minor weldup - seat belt stay
Blackstain - battery tray! I'm with Scotty on this one. The tray install is too big for this event, last year we (JPB) installed a new jack point for PineTreePorsche and that was pushing it for a one day event (all work was performed on outside rocker area so it was doable). Inside the engine bay grinding and welding... I've done it many times........ it's tight in there..... and impossible to do it right without an engine drop!
Fuel lines and =
Oct 20th. Seems clear on the initial "I'm at work" Calendar. Need to check and see whats due at school, and make sure Erin does not have me billed for something else.
Would not be able to make breakfast (not much is worth leaving home at 5am on a Saturday) but I'd be able to show around noonish - assuming that I am free.
I'll change the first post to indicate the date change.
If I am free, any one interested in putting together the bits of my carbed 2056 and seeing if we can get it to fire? It engine is built, but the tin, mallory, carbs, linkage, etc are all off it.
Zach
If I can make it (a bit of a haul) I can bring the bellhousing of a VW tranny, don't see why it wouldn't work. I'll try to keep that day free, sounds like a good time!
-Chris
I am totally there for the 20th. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
IF I make it I have a starter rig already built I can bring. I'm also all for going through Bbaydoll, valves up to get her RIGHT for good sounds mostly like a ignition/fuel trigger issue but why not start at sqaure one Anybody have a set of valve cover gaskets to donate? I'll also bring my multimeter. Might have to change the camping trip to November
Awwww, you guys are AWESOME, now I'm gonna' bring chili AND brownies!
Hey "Brewman" (Zymurgist), or anybodyelse who wants to chime in!
I'm looking around the shop for spare TPS's to test, if needed, during the Babydoll tuneUP. And I have some questions:
1. Do you know or remember, or does anybody else, what FI is in Babydoll, Djet or Ljet? Seems like I remember it to be a 1.8 Ljet.
2. Is Babydoll's TPS the one that came from the Jim Kelly stash of parts at my shop? I think Evil or someone else installed it last year at VBWS.
3. Final and probably the most difficult question:
What number was the TPS that was installed, 021 or 032?
Oh by-the-way Cheers
looks like this thing is a full blown go
LOL. OK, here's the 411 on the terms I'm throwing out...
ABV = Alcohol By Volume. Your basic Budweiser is around 5.0% ABV unless you are unfortunate enough to live in a state that mandates 3.2 beer. 5% ABV is a benchmark... lower than that and it's a "light" or "lawnmower" beer, higher than that and it can be an "imperial" style, a "barleywine," or any number of Belgian styles such as "strong ale" or "tripel." Incidentally, Guinness (which has many forms) is normally lower in alcohol content than a typical American premium lager.
IBU = International Bitterness Units. The hops that go into beer contribute bitterness to the flavor profile, via the alpha acids, which are contained in the sticky glands on the buds (yes, it's very similar, for those who are wondering). The more alpha acids that are boiled (typically for 60 minutes), the more bitter your finished beer will be. Good brewers strive for a balance between the sweetness of their lovingly mashed malt and the bitterness of their hops.
IPA = India Pale Ale. When the Brits were in India, they shipped beer to their troops overseas so they could have a taste of home. Given that refrigeration on a long ocean voyage was not practical, they upped the amount of hops in the standard English Pale Ale, since hops not only contribute flavor, they act as a natural preservative. This is why in the days of wooden ships and iron men, they carried beer and rum and not a lot of water... water would go stagnant but beer and rum would remain safe to drink. They also made the brew stronger because they wouldn't have to ship as much beer for the equivalent buzz level. This English Pale Ale on steroids came to be called India Pale Ale.
About the Jackstand IPA: it came in around 6% ABV (low end of alcohol for an IPA) and 42 IBU (low end of the bitterness scale for an IPA). My ideal IPA would be around 7.5 - 8% ABV and, say, 55 IBU. The IPA that I tapped this week comes in at 4% ABV and 70 IBU. That is to say, it's a good summertime beer, given its low alcohol content, but its bitterness will sucker punch you and bang your old lady.
LOL. Not *that* kinda brownies, Johnny Blackstain, and I'll see if I can go pull that TPS switch and get the numbers off of it. Yup, Babydoll is a stock 2.0 D-Jet.
As to her issues, I've been thinking forever that all my problems would go away with a good TPS switch, but when when I questioned Zymurgist Ken as to what HE thought this would do for the shaking little beastess, he replied, and I quote:
"Probably not a lot, unless we can get the timing fixed. That's the biggest obstacle to getting Babydoll running right. I think I can figure that out, given the documentation available, but I'd really like to have some other guys around if we have to troubleshoot the FI trigger points."
And here you guys are... see why I love you all so much? Now, to go pull the air filter and see if I can get that throttle switch off...
Caroline
Before going crazy and pulling the TPS, have you checked it? Power your car up, but do not start it. Slowly open your throttle and listen for clicks every few degrees. These clicks are the clicks of the fuel injectors and if you get a steady beat of them (I think 13 total) as you are opening the throttle then your TPS is fine as well as your FI brain TPS circuit.
I should be in the middle of my Ob/Gyn rotation when we all want to meet and as of yet do not know my schedule. I'll make sure to wash my hands
Caroline - don't worry 'bout the TPS we'll check it when it gets here.
Just let it go ..... we'll (EVIL) fix it! Checkout EVIL's reply to your post!
Root - (beer and brownie lover) beer.gif chowtime.gif
Thanks, Root, and Dr. Evil, what a neat trick that is! I went back out to the engine bay and re-installed the air filter ( I think Babydoll was most relieved that I didn't root around and pull of fthat throttle switch...). I then turned on the car, as specified, and pulled slowly on the spring that attaches to the throttle. I could definitely hear the clicks... up to 15 of 'em, I think. The faster I pulled, the faster it clicked. Does that mean my fuel injectors are working right? (Zymurgist will be happy to hear that...) That being the case, I really DO have timing problems, cause Babydoll shakes and jumps as if she's getting a choked fuel feed. Glad I've got a doctor on my side, and a shop, and lots of expertise ... I AM a lucky girl, and most certainly, so is Babydoll! Can't wait to see you guys on the 20th...
I'm in.
I've got several small projects to do...Clutch adjustment, shift linkage repair, & valve adjustment.
Or I could just come down and enjoy the beer!
Can't wait.
How old is your distributor? Years ago the bushings became worn out in mine, and it was tough keeping the dwell and the trigger points happy. It drove "ok", but the idle never would settle.

How old is Babydoll's dizzy? That's a pretty good question... Root n' da boys "created" it to replace the distributor that had been tweaked for an electronic ignition Crane box (which turned out to be faulty, wouldn't allow two injectors to fire). That was at the last Sterling get-together a year ago, and there wasn't much time for any fine tuning. Add to that the fact that Babydoll has never had a valve job... I suppose she's due for some man-handling, eh? Her idle is all over the map at present... I find that she drives pretty well until she's warmed up, then the jumping gets worse and she idles high, 2K or higher at stoplights... and she's guzzling gas.
If there's time - I'd like some of you guys to drive my car while I point out a few things and ask if they're normal or if I could do some kind of adjustment to fix. Car swap anyone?
I'll try to make it. Breakfast last year at that diner was good.
Z, your beer for the ECC was the best I've had in quite a while.
DrE, got the shirts. Look good.
SMD
I am going to be ordering parts today (i hope) so that i will have everyhting in order for the meet next week. Hopefully I'll be able to get Mike and Ross to come over friday night to help pre-stage the motor (while Laura and Noel and Erin hang out).
Zach
10 day weather forecast says it's going to be warm in the 70's
for the Sterling Meet!
I'm gettin' prepared
- cleaned the grill
- organized the tools
- and I've been 'wrenching and welding' alot to stay in shape
whoo-hooo! i'm looking forward to this. need to PM you for address/directions
PS: what food can i bring?
If I can un-fuck my car I will be driving it. It is loosing power in the worst way. I think it is fuel, but the fuel filter is NLA and I will need to cobble up a different set up just to change the simple things I'll ride the bike if I have to.
Mike, you are always welcome to come with me.
Zach
Root- is it possible to do some very light, aluminum welding?
Attached image(s)
Next weekend, the Beater hits the long haul. I was just gonna cut the fenders this weekend to. For shure, I might absolutely make it.
Epoxy or JB Weld would be my first guess unless you don't mind loosing it in an OOOOps incident.
I'll be headed to the Homemade German Sausage House in Vienna this week to pickup the Brats and Spicy Sausages
If you want to bring something to go with the sausage bring your favorite junk food
and drink!
I'll provide Sausage, Hot Kraut, buns, mustard and maybe some potato salad too!
Oh yummy to that Up-Fixin-Der-Porsche feast this coming week-end! I'll definitely bring brownies, and maybe carrot cake. Maybe chili would be overkill? Those brats will be killer... no chili needed, methinks. I'll see if I can scrounge up some chips, too... is that Octoberfesty?
I just talked to Susan (my partner and wife). She gave me the O.K. on overnighters!
I know some of you are coming from hours away and last year we hung out at the shop 'till late telling stories and milking beers, so anybody who wants to crash at my place Saturday night is welcome. We have 2 extra beds, one sofa, a super comfortable lazy-boy and the floor to offer up!
I can donate 2.0 FI parts....They are promised out though.....right Rick?
have extra trigger points, tps, dizzy and brain...only thing missing is injectors.
I can bring if I can make it, I can loan to other if I can't.
is anyone doing breakfast? i'm probably out of breakfast as the SO will put the foot down but steven sounds hungry...
will bring some kind of food.
PM'ed for shop address.
I can do breakfast, tho' I'm pretty groggy that early in the morning. That way, if Babydoll breaks down on route, you guys can push me out to Root's shop. Bwahahahaha!! She should be ok, tho'... lately, she's been runnin' better in cooler weather, she just hates to warm up. Sigh.
This shindig is starting to shape up - a mini ECC, methinks! Woohoo!! Now, lets banish all thoughts of rain (which we haven't seen for two months now) and get ready to celebrate in style, with wrench in hand.
I agree - No one lives closer to Rod's shop or Amphora Diner than I (except for maybe Rod) and 7:30 am is way to early for me (see avatar). I'll probably just end up meeting you guys at Rod's shop. I don't know what kind of food I'm bringing yet but I know it will include Doritos. Everyone loves Doritos.
If anyone is wondering about something easy to bring, I would suggest Coca-Cola and other soft drinks. A couple of bags of ice would be nice, too, for the keg. (I think I have the keg container dilly-o worked out with Babydoll...)
Rod,
How about a map, or directions? I'll be coming in from the Beltway since I really really hate US 15 from the Virginia line to Route 7. (I think the major roads take less time even though it looks like a longer route.)
Here's a link to the Sterling meet location:
http://www.matsys.com/index.htm
PS, what's the starting time?
Ken doesn't get out of bed before 8:00 on weekends.
Even for Carlisle or Hershey.
Here's the weather outlook for Sterling!

oh yeah - if the DEA is reading this - jim. who i do not know and never met - what is a bung?
jim
Grimmey! I almost missed this event. Work might actually let up. I'll know better tomorrow am. I hope to come down later in the day - after kids soccer game. Dr E - I might have a FF for you, I will look.
here's hoping to see you all again Sat!
I was just catching up on all the banter going on with this thread, and all I can say is, you guys are disgusting. Can't WAIT to see you all Saturday...
I'll have healthy munchies (boo), not-so-healthy munchies (yay!) and a 914 with a bad attitude. I'll bring a big ol' tub for the zymurgist, too - you guys bring the ice. Shall I bring cups?
Is anyone else planning on making it to the breakfast? I can likely only hang out until ~noon.
I intend to come to that breakfast - it's a straight shot down rte. 123. If Babydoll can get her engines awake at 7, so can I!
working Saturday, bummer, Rick, let me know and I can have the extra parts with me for you to take down....

OK, all you DEA guys reading this, jim and i HAVE met....
the bung (not bong) is what root is welding into my triad to accept the O2 sensor for my LM - ... (what ever model it is....)
oh - bung
don't i feel silly
I dont even know what the "FF" is, but I am not turning my back on him
Oh, I am going to change my WUR tomorrow and see if that fixes my CIS problem. I may still drive down......I wouldnt bet on it, though
Fuel Filter, ya Maroon! You mentioned you can't get one in an earlier post. I think I have two. You're welcome to one of them
See everyone tomorrow.
Weather Forecast looks good!
I'll be at Amphora's at 7:30AM shop opens at 8:30AM or earlier if I don't have any trouble finding ice for the cooler!
Attached image(s)
i looked for my bung before i went to work and when i found it, i put it in my pocket. jim kelly needs to get there early so he can see it before it gets welded.

I will be there in spirit only, must do the real estate thing tomorrow. Found a great deal and can't pass it up. Have fun all a yall and don't get to Zimergized!
I'll see you fools aropund 9 or 10:00 I need to get some sleep I'll be bringing my multimeter, bellhousing with starter, remote starter cables, feeler gauges, dizzy for the doc. Anything else we need tool wise??
Wow, I'm glad there's clarification as to the breakfast destination for tomorrow - I ASSumed it was the Amphora in Vienna. I didn't even know there was one in Herndon, I guess that makes more sense. OK, if you don't see me at breakfast, it means I got lost (or Babydoll did...) but I'll certainly find my way to the shop, since I've been there before. I'll try to make it to Amphora's, tho', I hear their French Toast is to die for.
Till Tomorrow! I'd better go get those brownies out of the oven now...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!
good luck with that thing!
jim
EeeeeHeeee! I cobbled up a fuel filter and it works much better The old one once removed felt like it had a rock in it and I could shake crap out of it What a PITA to find the one I need, or one I could use. The one I need is NLA so I am doubting that Matt has one, but I am willing to check them out
See ya'll around noon or earlier if I dont catch fire or break down
You're going to have Noel or Zach running a support vehicle right ?
Zach.
I just swapped in some jet doctors in my dells, a 160 mile shakedown cruise seems like a good idea. Tools? I'll have my standard Beetle breakdown set. Will we have access to a compressor? I have a leakdown tester I can bring. Welder there/welding needed? I have a helmet I can bring too. Anything else? Hopefully I'll be there in the AM.
-Chris

Zach
My apologies to everyone for not attending- I got tied up w/ this "Temple of VTEC" engine swap this past week & still am working some OBD1 bugs out. Got a 28 bhp increase w/ no loss in mpg & 0.25lbs weight gain.
Rick... PM me.

I made it home....now I can figure out what is wrong with the damn car
glad to hear the Dr and Zach made it home. thanks Rod for everthing . what i'm really curious about is how babydoll ran on the way home.
PS, i found the bungs on the innovate site. $8 each but..... $19 shipping
Alright you wrench-heads, you guys are the GREATEST! I apologize for not writing sooner to thank everyone, especially Rod, but while I was there having the time of my life with tools n' cars n' cool car-dudes, the kids managed to break our computers, all 3 of them! Rotten kids. I couldn't post anything 'till he-who-fixes-computers got home. Sad, ain't it?
Anyhoo, I was sooo glad to hear that you got home, Mike, I'll bet you smoked a few road-crossin' possums on your long drive, eh? But you made it! Thanks, Zack, for keeping an eye on him, till you lost him.
Now, I suspect there may be some querries about Babydoll's performance, since a lot of expert hands messed with her yesterday. Well, all I can say is, she's running better than EVER! She's running as well as the day Jim sold her to me, better, even, 'cause she doesn't seem to buck at speed any more. The replaced TPS switch, with Ken's prior adjustments, now is spot on, as is the dwell, idle, etc. No stalling out at stoplights, no over-revving, none of that mad behavior. Hell, she didn't even require double-clutching to take first gear, no more crunching. Even the lights are now bright enough to see nicely down the road! The cockpit is still dark, but what the heck, I know where those gears are, and go by sound of RPM's, not speed. Babydoll didn't want to turn off when I finally got her home, but she didn't give me much guff about that, either, and I was able to nudge her into the off position pretty easily. I'm actually glad that she has a few small quirks left, 'cause otherwise I wouldn't recognize her. The bad stuff is all FIXED. I can't wait to go joy-riding again!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Thanks to everyone for letting me hang out wit' you in the shop all day - I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be, cars and tools are soooo much more fun than the traditional stuff I am supposed to be doing. And Rod, thank you thank you thank you!! From all of us, and me especially! Can't wait for the next gathering... maybe I'll learn to do something useful, eh? I've always fancied welding...
Caroline
(Incompetent but Good-Hearted Mechanic)
Rod - Thanks for everything, food, garage (smokehouse), etc. Hopefully we didn't leave it too much of a mess!
Jim - Really sorry about screwing up that bung install, it should have been a quick and easy project, and it was until that bung ovaled up. Don't give any more of your money to innovate right now, that shipping charge is outrageous. Go to your local FLAPS, find the HELP! section, and grab item 42002 (spark plug non-fouler). I've used one of these before to relocate the O2 sensor bung in my Miata (just gotta hack then end off), I have a spare (which I can send you if you can't find one), and I just checked to see if the lm1 bung plug fits into it (which it does). I suggest grabbing a spark plug that threads into it too while you are at the store (or I can send you this bung plug). Nice thing about this antifouler is that its OD is way smaller than the LM1 bung OD. So we should be able to pull the old bung plug, drill out the bung that is already in there only a little bit, and weld this one it (going VERY slowly this time). Let me know when you need this done and I will come down to sort it out. Your exahust will be double bunged, but more than that, it will have a bung within a bung. Not many can say that.
Evil - Let me know if you want to borrow my LM-1 because it really will just be sitting in my Beetle potentially doing nothing from now until next spring. I don't even really need it if I were to go for a cruise because the car is dialed in pretty well now. Also got a Mallory fuel pump and regulator good to 100 psi you are welcome to borrow if you are doubting your fuel pump (just sitting in a box waiting for a megasquirt install that won't be happening soon). Definitely welcome to borrow it all.
Well, yesterday was a good time, glad I made the trip. Great to (re) meet everyone, Ken, thanks for the brew, Caroline, thanks for the brownies! The drive home was a bit cold but went really well. I actually forgot at times that I was driving a 40 yr old VW. Ran into a VWhead at a rest stop towing a Beetle back to NY. His relatively new 1776 t1 blew up, he wasn't too happy when I mentioned that I cruise all day with my 1.8 t4 at 80-85 . . .
I'll post the videos shortly.
I enjoyed hosting this event alot!
I'll try and plan a similar spring thing....
It's great to group work like this from time to time. Good people, the best beer!, and I think we finally got Babydoll's ignition nailed.
The shop's mopped, smokehouse is clean .....no residual smell from Evil's stinky 2.7.
The heppa filter exhaust fan system we put in here really works great!
All I can say is, " thanks for coming "! and glad everyone made it home O.K.
Thanks for hosting!
This was the most productive, and potentially destructive, meet that I have yet been to. It was a blast, and I'm not just talking about the fireballs shooting out of the top of my carbs - or the result of spicy sausage and beer on my digestive tract.
Hehehe.
When I was following Mike home last night, he'd zip off ahead of me to play in traffic. No way I could keep up, especially with the engine tied off in the back of my subaru. I'd find him by watch the billowing cloud of smoke blurring out the traffic lights.
At one point, as mike was idling at a stop light, his car stated blowing perfect smoke rings out his tail pipe that were illuminated off my headlights.
I got home late, but I had a really killer time.
Strangely, I am having a hard time finding the energy to get out there and lap my cylinder against the head like we talked about yesterday. *lazy* I think I'll just sit on my butt for a while longer and play more Portal or something.
Zach
Yes - It was really great to put faces with names (avatars). I was also wondering how babydoll ran. It sounds like she's in great shape now. I also learned some stuff about test firing engines watching Zach work on his. I actually liked the hard cider and the beer too. Thanks Ken. Thanks Rod for the great Brats and location to work on cars too. Can't wait until next time. We'll be in touch.
Pics coming later today... maybe
Zach - If you want to borrow that leakdown tester let me know. You can also build a cylinder pressurizer from a thread in compression tester and some fittings from the depot. Hook it up to a compressor and suds up the cylinder to head joint with some 409 to see if the lapping worked. Hope that is all it is. Welcome to the leakdown tester too . . .

So Babydoll is good how about a report on Smokey, Mike? We know you got home but how's the low end power?
I know I missed the gathering,
but,
Did I miss the pics??????
Paul
Rod, thanks for hosting this gathering. I was glad I could make it down even so late in the afternoon.. bad for you, i'm close enough to just show up one Sat or Sunday afternoon!
Mike thanks for showing me which lead the Tach attaches on the Coil. Guess I'm the "maroon" since I had it on the wrong terminal. My tach now works!
Let's do this or anything similar again soon. Hey Herb, your turn!

Hey Rod, thanks for hosting this shindig. It's easy to forget that this all started out as a cry for help from Babydoll and a frustrated mechanic. I guess I need to pick your brain and learn exactly what you did to Babydoll, since a lot of that happened before I got there.
It was a long day for me, not as long as for some, but a lot of fun nonetheless. The sausages were phenomenal, especially for those lucky few that had some of Grandpa's spicy sausages that were in the sauerkraut. It was great weather for Oktoberfest... maybe next year I can whip up a festybrau, although I did get a lot of nice feedback on the pale ale. (Pale ale is more or less my "house beer" and now I need to brew another batch so I won't run out! )
Mike, glad to hear that you made it home OK. I would have liked to stick around and close the place down, but Sterling's not just around the corner from my house like Matt's house is.
Althea and I were both severely tired... when I got home to unload the car, I opened her door and waited for her to wake up and come out. I had everything out of the car and into the house before she woke up. Sucks getting old, I guess.
my car was running fine yesterday and earlier today - but right after i got gas it starting running like shit - all the way home : )
hey - scott - what is this innocent seeming gesture ??
i have pics to upload to my blog - but before we come there - my wife shut down our computer and now my browsers won't connect thru my dsl - only thru my dial up connection ; (((( i have a wireless network connection that is strong and a network wire directly to my gateway but no damn dls connection - shit!!!

WOW, Jim, that is a wonderful photo essay you posted, to the grandeur and exploits of the 914World ECC gang. I really liked your groupings, and appreciate the coverage of past ECC events... very, very cool.
Hey, you know that galley plug we replaced. I was looking over my build thread, and found this entry:
adapter at galley plug for oil temp sender
So, thats what that was for. Now its just capped off.
Zach
i removed my fuel injectors and mailed them to witchhunter.com for rebuild

Hey Rod, if you're really interested, check out this home-brewers kit available right over in Vienna, on Craigslist (like e-bay, only no bidding and no shipping... great for local stuff). Ken, what do you think of this, is it a good one?

I think Caroline's recommendation is spot on. It's local and it's cheaper.
The only thing I would recommend is that you ask how old the beer ingredient kit is. If it's older than, say, last Christmas, throw out the syrup, yeast, and hops, and buy a beer ingredient kit from your LHBS (Local Home Brew Supplier). I found 2 that might work for you...

I always recommend that people support their local homebrew store... in Palm Beach County, Florida, there was no LHBS until last year... everyone had to mail order everything... grain, extract, hops, the whole shebang.
Drop me a line if you have any other questions...
Oh yeah... if there was ever any doubt that the engine on the floor was running...
Yup, the engine ran. We were all so happy that we all checked out mike's junk (even Mike is giving himself a check.)
PROOF!
I feel dirty....
Zach
Butttttt... we were all laughing!
Wow, check this out. Our noble Zymurgist has posted some pretty cool pics, both from the Sterling Octoberfest and the last ECC drive-along. Here's the link:

ROFL. Us "meat gazers" were lookin' at some seriously smokin' equipment, daaaahling. Not to disparage your fine accoutrements, but the exhaust system right beside you was putting on quite a performance...
doc must be feeling good right about then
engine start up really gets the blood flowing
