But another one is in the planning for February/March 2008 time-frame

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Recap from the previous episode:

OK ... for those of you who missed the last one (including me), here's your chance to get in on the NEW deal.

I PM'd George and asked if he was up for another one of these events ... and he replied:

"Always Mark. making a 914-6 gt clone is the RAGE these days! The current deal would be ten sets one check 650 per set plus shipping 49 states 50 dollars shipping and if they wanted to add some other parts reasonably light and regular sized the shipping would not increase. We will ship to each individually."

I just spoke with him on the phone too, and as you can see, the new deal is a departure from the earlier buy of only 6 sets to qualify, so this may be a little tougher to get lined up confused24.gif

George's Guidelines:

* Minimum order is 10 sets
... Cost: $700. each ($650. + $50. shipping ea. CONUS)
... This is a savings of roughly $350. from the current catalog price
... only $650. (no shipping charge) if you can pick up directly from AA

* The entire order will need to be paid for with ONE check
... I created an escrow account to deposit your payments and I will write the check to 'AA'

* Shipments would be individually sent out to each participant's address.

You can post here, http://z8.invisionfree.com/ClubNARP/index.php?showtopic=2834&st=0#entry2703147, or PM me (at either place) if you're seriously interested ...

PM me for my phone number if you want to talk to me personally.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Answers to questions(11-4-07):

1. Since we're getting close to having 10 committed participants, I contacted George again to check inventory (+/- 40 sets are available now).

2. As soon as we confirm we have 10 committed participants, I'll post a due date for the payments (tentatively, it looks like mid-December).

3. Payments ($700.00) will need to be made out to me, so I can deposit them into the account.

Payment Options:

* Bank Check
* Money Order
* Personal Check

4. Please send your payment(s) via 'Certified Mail', 'Signature Requested' (this protects each of us).

5. When all the payments 'clear' here, I send 'AA' a single payment for the total amount due and I will provide them with a spreadsheet with all participant's contact/shipping information on it.

6. When the payment clears 'AA', the flares ship to the address you provided me with.

I've provided current participants with my contact info ... so feel free to send me a PM, e-mail or call me if you have any questions or need to change anything (like your contact/shipping information).

Oops, replied in the old thread. There were 3-4 people that contacted me after the flares had already shipped. Hopefully they'll see this new thread and help you guys get to 10. drunk.gif

It depends on when the order will be placed. If it is in Nov then I think I can pull it off. If it is before that then I am out!

I replied in the other thread too before I saw this one...

I'm sure the list won't be at 10 buyers until at least November (only 2 weeks away) or even later ... and with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season just around the corner, this may not even happen till 2008?

However, I am canvassing other 914 owners that don't typically frequent any of the 914 forums, will also post on NARP, and possibly Club to see if I can rattle a few cages idea.gif

If we get up to (or beyond) 10 potential buyers, I'll PM each of you for specific information and exchange phone numbers, etc. so we'll all be on the same page.

Posted by: euro911 Oct 19 2007, 12:53 PM

I guess since I'm trying to get this one going, Ill be the go-to guy and cut the check to George.

I'll keep posting the updated list of participants in the first post in this thread.

Once the list gets up to 10 (or close to it), your funds will need to move fairly quickly.

There are a few options for payment:

I think the best options would be either a Personal Check, Bank Check, or Money Order(s) to me. I recommend you mail it by Certified Mail, Signature Receipt Requested.

OMITTED: PayPal is also an option, but there will be the customary 3% to cover their charge ($700. x 3% = $21.00) so I won't recommend this option

Again, feel free to PM me for my phone number if you want to talk to me personally.

If you know any other guys who want a set, let them know and get em on-board ...

That makes NINE (9) ...

I responded:
QUOTE
"Hello Byron,

Thanks for your interest in the 'Group Buy' on Flares ...

In a nutshell, 'AA' currently sells a reproduction factory steel flare set for $995. + shipping ($50.), so if one wants orders a set individually, it will cost them $1,050.

With the 'Group Buy', the total cost is only $700. for any of the ten (or more) participants ... a cost savings of $350. for each person)

-----------

When we have the ten confirmed participants (hopefully more, in case someone decides too drop out), I will be asking everyone to send me one of the following by US Postal 'Certified Mail':

* Certified Bank Check
* Personal Check (if your account is in good standing)
... or
* Money Orders (M/O's are typically only good up to $500. each).

-----------

PM me with your full name, address, phone number and e-mail address, and I'll place you on the list.

Let me know if you need any additional info and I can call you back ..."

Additional Info:

I created an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of who's on-board for this buy ... I guess this would be a good time to have all the participants PM me with your contact info (name, address, phone number and e-mail address) and I'll fill in the blanks, and e-mail you back my contact info.

Hello, I am a brand new member here and have an old 72 914 I am just starting to work on and want to fix up a bit and restore while giving it a look close to the old 914-6/GT cars. I most definetely need a set of these flares, but right now I don't have the funds. If you were to have another one of these group buys say in the spring of 2008 I would mostly definetely sign up and order a set.....would the shipping include Japan as well?

Also that Euro911 car is incredible, thats truly amazing!! Are those the same flares or OEM ones? How do these repro flares compare to the real thing? Thank you for your help. Please let me know if there are plans for another group buy in the near future, thank you

Jamie

Konnichiwa Jamie ... and welcome.png

I believe this is the third 'Group Buy' on flares (but don't quote me on it). I wasn't involved with the previous 'group buys', nor do I see me getting involved with another one (yet).

We currently have 9 committed participants, the 10th participant is hoping to be ready by mid December 2007. This qualifies us with the bare minimun requirement.

As for the silver car pic, that came from the Patrick Racing site (meaning: it is not MY car) ... but my POS could look similar after emptying my wallet for the flares, suspension upgrades, nice tires and wheels, paint, etc.

Yes, they are steel construction and from most reports I've received, they are fairly nice reproductions of the factory original flares.

The $50. shipping is only applicable in the Continental US, the costs would be more to ship to Japan ... sad.gif

I'm almost certain that someone else will arrange another group buy in the future, but keep watching this thread ... there may be a possibility that this particular buy could stretch out into early 2008 confused24.gif

Posted by: atsealevel914 Nov 7 2007, 07:15 PM

whats the address i gotta send the payment to. i pm'd you for your phone #.
please let me know, i got cash.

Posted by: euro911 Nov 7 2007, 11:46 PM

We still have time to add more buyers if you are indeed interested.

A friend where I work was asking today, but he won't be ready until early 2008, so I'll keep a list of 'late-bloomers' in case a bunch of you guys want to do this again next year ...

I don't recommend sending cash ... much safer to convert it to a bank check or the appropriate quantity of Money Orders if you don't want to send a personal check.

I haven't received your PM as of yet ... unsure.gif ... try PM-ing me again, or send your contact info to the e-mail address in the PM I just sent to you.

Here's the list so far:

Hi, thanks for the reply....I might be able to possibly even make this group buy. You see I am going to sell some motorcycle parts to a friend and he is insisting on using PayPal so I thought maybe have my friend send it to the person in charge of the group buy, but I need to know how much for shipping. Do I send this payment to George directly at AA or to you.....its not confirmed but I might be able to work it out if I had another month or so......any deadlines?? I really need the flares.

Is there any way to see a car with the actual flares installed ?

If shipping would be around the same price would be great, I don't mind cheaper shipping but don't want to be paying like 200 dollars for EMS or Fed Ex, maybe throught the US post office perhaps?

The parts I hope to sell to raise money for the flares are about the same so this could work out perfectly.

Thank you,
Jamie

Jeff says he'll be ready by December 17th. Thats OK with me ... let me know if this is a problem for anyone else unsure.gif

PLEASE read the 'RULES' and 'ANSWERS' in the first post as for questions regarding payment. You all should have my contact info by now (check your PM inbox or e-mail if you don't have it).

Hey guys, we're there !!! We have 11 signed up now, possibly 12, so if you're serious, I'd say start mailing your payments to me within the next couple of weeks or so AND PM me to let me know that you sent it. I'd like to have all the funds in the group account by mid December.

I hope to have stock availability and shipping info from George shortly smile.gif

Until then, I'll just be kickin' back waiting fer yer call ...

OK, here's the LATEST POOP laugh.gif

George just replied, and I'll share with you'all:

"Hi Mark. We have on the shelf 40 sets of flares less the seven we have orders for.

We could ship the flares to Japan for $250.00 and maybe the guy would want some other parts to add since he has to pay the shipping anyway.

... We, upon receiving [payment] would begin to box the sets immediately.

We are launching the new 914 catalog this week (printed now and being mass mailed tomorrow) so bedlam will insue shortly (over 30,000 catalogs being mailed) so the sooner we send these flares the better as again only 32 sets are left and we are now stamping inner rockers and sill plates.

We are also making gt rockers as getty is just too expensive and mitcom are shitcom in quality. We took an original factory set complete with the stamped factroy part numbers to mold from so we will have them as pefectly fitting as we can and the price should be an affordable 150 per set.

The spread sheet is fine and you can e mail it to me personally. I am more than happy to receive any correspondance from a fellow 914 lover! Thank you."

Hi,

I believe the deal is $650 for the fenders, $50 shipping in the continental US. I believe if you and the receiver have paypal accounts, you can send mone for free. Therefore, $650 + $50 + $0 is "drumroll" $700.

Posted by: euro911 Nov 8 2007, 08:57 PM

Two different issues going on here.

Unfortunately in Jamie's particular case, he doesn't reside in the US ... and apparently the cost to ship a set of flares from 'AA' to Japan is $250. dry.gif

.. so here's how Jamie's bill would look: $650. + $250. = $900., + Pay Pal charges *

* I believe Pay Pal charges the receiver of the funds (which would be me) a percentage when the funds are pulled the out of the account.

I thought I read it was 3%, but I heard it may have gone up to as high as 4.5%. unsure.gif I only use Pay Pal to purchase items ... have never accepted it for any sales.

I'll ask someone who uses PP more than I do to see what the current charge rate is ... I'd hate to see Jamie have to pay another additional charge (which could be anywhere from $27. to $40. on a $900. purchase) mad.gif

We still have time to figure something out ... maybe a slower shipper? confused24.gif

Posted by: Wilhelm Nov 9 2007, 12:49 AM

Me Bad, didn't note he was writing from Japan. Weird though, when I replied I was poster 21 and now I was "burped" down the line. The Paypal info for sending cash is : https://www.paypal.com/helpscr?cmd=_help&locale=en_US&countrycode=US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&t=solutionTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=13138

Posted by: euro911 Nov 9 2007, 02:48 AM

Apparently, my limit on receiving payments via Pay Pal is only $500. per month (without upgrading to a 'Premier Account', which I don't care to do).

Also ... there are fees associated with the Premier Account:

Receive payments funded by Credit Card, Debit Card or Buyer Credit:

4.9% + $0.30 USD (limit of 5 transactions per 12 month period)
** for domestic or U.S. transactions

... that would be an additional $44.40 on a $900. payment

Pay Pal states that I also have a $500. limit that I can take out of the account per month (See attached pic).
You gotta realize that Pay Pal IS a bank dry.gif

Jamie, if your friend is here in the US, just have him send a Bank Check or Money Orders confused24.gif

Hi Euro 911, thank you for your help and giving me the full details, unfortuntately the shipping is way more than I expected, 250 USD is a lot of money....I was kind of hoping to keep shipping under 100 dollars, I don't mind slower shipping, not a problem...I had a guy in California ship me a complete BMX bicycle to Japan here for 65 dollars by ground or sea mail and it took almost 2 months to show upbut was cheap (He used the post office and not Fed EX or UPS) I wouldn't mind that way as I am in no hurry to install these flares.......second bad news thing.....my friend who wants to send payment by PayPal on my behalf is in Europe......I could ask him to send a bit more to cover the service charges and that might work but the shipping is just a lot of money......

I noticed George mentioned if I order more he can ship those as well, would he be able to fit a matching set of rocker panels for flared car and a rear valance and maybe some small parts like rear back up light switch, rear license plate lights and some shifter bushings???

Thanks so much for your help

Yes, sorry I am in Japan. I wish I was back home but there is where work has sent me, its a nice country to live in though but no 914's here

Posted by: euro911 Nov 12 2007, 10:20 AM

Jamie,

Contact George directly to get your complete order details sorted out first. If you're a go on this buy, remind him you're part of "euro911's Flare Group Buy" ... (I forwarded your PM, so he has seen your wants, but you'll need to get pricing from him on all the other parts you want and to arrange sea shipping, which would be cheaper, and he said this can be done).

If you're good with everything, then send me a 'Bank Check' (via 'Certified Mail') for the total amount of your purchase.

I'd like to have all committed participant's payments here by around mid-December if at all possible ...

... after all, this IS a Group Effort ... we're relying on each other to make this a go ...

Hi Mark (Euro 911), I think I can order with you guys as long as I can use PayPal.....I can have my buddy send you the amount plus the 3 percent charge and have them shipped to my friends place in Portland, Oregon. The rest of the money I can probably send to George I guess directly if he is accepting PayPal. I really want to get these flares, not in a big hurry so they can sit at my friends place in Portland till next summer when I will either pick them up or he might even come to Japan and bring them out for me.

I'm going to Email you from now too, thanks!!

Sending you a PM Larry ...

Posted by: euro911 Nov 19 2007, 02:18 PM

We now have 11 'confirmed'.

3 have paid to date and I just received another PM ... 1 more payment will be on the way this week.

2 have informed me they'll be sending payments by mid-December.

As of 11/8, there were 32 sets on the shelf at AA. George said they would start shipping immediately after my check clears.

Since some of the payments won't reach me until almost Christmas, and with all the holiday shipping going on right about that time, it looks like shipping the flares wouldn't really happen until January 2008. (This would probably be better anyway ... less chance of lost or damaged packages from frustrated shippers/package handlers)?

... any heartburn with this ... confused24.gif

If you can't get in on this one, let me know if you want to do this again in a couple of months? idea.gif

I'd be happy to organize another biggrin.gif

All UPDATE info is in the First Post of this thread ...

Jamie,

I just can't recommend sending cash, especially a large sum coming all the way from Germany. Cash is not traceable and I don't want any issues popping up, should anything come up 'missing'.

One possible solution would be to have your friend go to a bank and convert the payment to US Dollars in the form of a bank check or an International Money Order.

A better possible solution would be to have him send the Pay Pal payment to one of your family members in the US who can then send a check here on your behalf ... ???

The second method may be faster.

If this can't be done prior to mid-December, I can only recommend working out something else with your friend and get in on the next buy (and paying with a traceable instrument).

I feel this would be much safer ...

Best Regards,
Mark

UPDATE

As of 12/7/07, we're at 17 sign-ups, 16 say they are 'confirmed'.

4 Participants have PAID to date

4 more participants have payments in the mail.

IMPORTANT QUESTION

Since it appears that a few will be cutting it kind of close to the cut-off date (12/15) and Christmas upon us, I'd like to know if any of you want to wait until after the beginning of 2008?

If so, we could split the list, do 10 now and have 7 ready to do another buy in January or February? We should be able to pick up 3 more participants within that time ...

Let me know what you guys think ... idea.gif

I'm in the "planning" phase of building a 914.

The price is something I didn't want to pass up on and didn't want to be in a situation that I'd have to wait a year or so for another group buy.

Wes

Posted by: euro911 Dec 10 2007, 11:59 PM

Gentlemen,

Just a friendly reminder that the scheduled deadline to have your payments here for this particular group buy is slightly less than a week away (December 14th +/-) shades.gif

6 payments have been received to date - with 2 more, purportedly in the mail ... we still need at least 2 more to meet the minimum qualifying number

I've got a request;

Prior to sending AA the spread sheet with shipping address's, could you send a copy out to everybody (that are in on it), in order to verify that their shipping address's is correct. (ya, I worry way too much)

You could edit out everything except for the person getting it, but it should come from the master copy.

tempting...................

except I have no metal working skills or tools.. sad.gif

Posted by: euro911 Dec 12 2007, 01:36 PM

I already thought about doing that Wes, and thats a definate yes for those who actually provided me with their e-mail addresses poke.gif

I 'copied and pasted' the contact info directly from e-mails or PMs onto the Excel spreadsheet to avoid mistakes like transposing #s and all, but double verification would be a good idea, thanks idea.gif

It would be easier if I could just send out one e-mail and include all participants in the distribution, so if anybody participating in this buy has heartburn with any of the other participants knowing their address or phone #, etc., let me know and I'll mask your information on the spreadsheet if its absolutely necessary.

stirthepot.gif Another deadline reminder ... today is Wednesday, December 12th. shades.gif

OK ... unless you can hand me a CASH (or equivalent) payment before I sent a check off to George (on 12/26 or 12/27) we're officially closed on this one sad.gif

Drawing a line in the sand for the cut-off date was probably the hardest part of organizing this buy for me behead.gif Hope you're not too disappointed ar15.gif

I think most of the participants were desirous of having the flares in their possession prior to Christmas ... it just took a bit longer than we originally thought to get 10+ confirmed and paid for unsure.gif

From the initial interest that this one drew in just 2 months, I think another buy in a couple of months would probably be very do-able. There are potentially 6 guys and 7 sets on the unofficial 2008 list as of today ... gathering up a several more shouldn't be that difficult confused24.gif

I'll coordinate with George on that issue when I finalize the deal on this one.

Thanks for all your interest

For those of you who want to track the payment to 'AA', it went out this morning (12/29) via Certified Mail ...

Copy this # 7007 1490 0002 7681 1315 and paste in the box here: http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm?from=home&page=0035trackandconfirm

I just checked, but its not showing in the system as of this post, but it should be active shortly.

THANKS, Mark and George for making this happen.

Now I have to sit out on the front porch (in the rain) waiting for mine!

Good deal on the pick-up Chuck. Let me know if you're satisfied with them, and take lots of pix of your project if you can.

I think the current rain storm will be gone by the time FedEx delivers our sets, Wes ...

I spoke with Carrie @ AA about an hour ago. She said that seven (7) sets were shipped yesterday and the remainder should be shipped by the end of this week.

She also said e-mailed tracking #s to the participants who provided me with their e-mail address.

I asked her to e-mail me the tracking #s for those who didn't ... and I will provide those few individuals with said tracking #s ...

Wes, your set is yet to be shipped ... same goes for mine dry.gif

If you took them to a body shop, would you expect them to be butt welded or would it matter to you.

The guy I bought it back from had it sent out by Otto's so I don't know exactly what Venice Beach, formerly Beach Boys Racing charged him. They did the work January of 2006. But several years ago they quoted me $400.00 a corner to weld them on and blend them in or $2500.00 to do the whole thing with a Paint job. BTW they did not paint the car. I now have three shades of silver on my car. I bought the flairs from AA when they first started making them, but never installed them and included them with the car when I sold it back in December of 2005.

I'm gonna bootyshake.gif welder.gif mine for sure. The bigger question for me is what to do to protect the paint from rocks thrown up by the wheels as these fenders will be essentially unlined. The two simple options would seem to either be to Rhinoline the insides versus building a steel innerliner. Both methods could have the risk of trapping moisture and hence leading to rust. What have the rest of you done to protect your outside paint from rocks tossed from inside the wheel wells?

Check out 3M undercoating. It comes in a spray can and is available at just about any automotive paint supply shop.

It sprays out kind of like a tar and then foams up.

It can get real messy, but works great (also helping fill out the back side of the weld).

Hi, my flares showed up too a last week at my friends place in Oregon, now all I have to do is pick them up somehow, might be a while. Thanks very much Mark for helping me out with this. I can't wait to get them welded on and the car painted again. Cheers

Thanks for checking in Jamie. Sorry you can't lay your hands on them right away. Make sure your friend keeps them in a dry place shades.gif

Now that we have our flares - what wheels do you plan on using?? I am reading that I can use 9" front wheels but my tape measure says otherwise (it says 8" tops since 6" rubs now.)

I am going for the harsh wide ride of these reproductions.

I suspect I will end up doing a bit of a rear fender stretch to get the rear meats on as the offset is so outside the centerline. Technically I would need a 3" spacer with these, but I'm half way done making new rear housings to house 928 hubs and axle stubs to move the flanges outward the extra inches to avoid torque on the bearings. These 928 bearings are freaking huge! These housings will be fit onto 914 swing arms. It will accept 944 turbo drums and will use the intergal parking brake assembly. This is all going in my 327 SBC rig. Fortunately I have more time than common sense. I just wish I had some heat out in my tin building! (I'm waiting for the county to permit my new INSULATED shop) I'm finding making all the bits and peaces a blast; thats part of this old car thing anyway. I'll eventually post my pics of this process. No hijack intended. I chose these wheels as the price seemed reasonable and I like their look though I would have gone 17" if I could have found them.

Is it a good or a bad idea to "pre-roll" the fender edges on the flares before installing them? I also remember Brad mentioning (back before the 'event') that there were some tricks to maximize tire clearance during the installation.

You can utilize the rolling baseball bat method confused24.gif
