914World.com _ 914World Garage _ UPDATE - another SoCal BBQ - November 17th

Posted by: ahdoman Nov 5 2007, 12:05 PM

Hey all,
This month is my birthday as well as Rick's (2-Oh) and our wives asked us what we wanted to do for our birthdays. Of course we told them a 914 party beerchug.gif ! So it's official; Saturday, November 17th at my place in Santa Clarita. (For those of you who don't know where Santa Clarita is we're up by Magic Mountain only across the valley to the east off the 14 fwy).

Here's the plan for the drive;
We will meet around 8:30 and hopefully be moving by 9am.
From the 5 fwy exit “Lake Hughes Rd” go east. We’ll meet along Lake Hughes Rd. about ½ mile down on the right (In front of the boat yard before the hill)...

The drive will end at my house probably around 11ish. We'll be supplying the BBQ, food and drinks. If you're a musician bring your acoustic whatever. I'll have my quiver of instruments available as well so maybe we can get Clayton to show us one of those urban tribal dances he does av-943.gif . I do have a garage, tools and available jackstands if anybody needs to do some minor fixin' (sorry, no lift).

Here's my best guess at who we're expecting. If I missed your name or you are just reading this for the first time please feel free to come on by. There will be plenty of food and fodder.

Oh, and out of respect for the neighborhood, please keep it to 25.

I'm planning on coming, but I was just wondering about making it as painless as possible.

Anyone mind if I invite a couple of non-P cars along?

Posted by: ahdoman Nov 7 2007, 01:08 AM

Hey all,
Andy & Allan bring up a couple of good points. You are more than welcome to bring rug rats, family and significant others. The backyard is plenty big and full of adventure for the pre-teens.

Mike; Non-P cars are welcome as long as you supervise and clean up after them.

I am on the bubble. If I get my car running tomorrow, there is a chance I will be there Saturday. If not, it's not looking good.

I have soccer in the AM with my kids, and then I can head up. So if the pumpkin is running, I should be there smile.gif

I was welding in some inner ear re-enforcements when Steve stopped by after his scouting drive. I'll soon post some photos of what I did. Anyway, Steve also delived some good news; a bridge burned out by the fires has been replaced with a steel constuction bridge, and will be open Monday. This will shorten my work commute by 15 minutes; Hurray!

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum. If I show up in a Miata and promise to clean up after it, would that be o.k?
During the drive, will some if not all of you be going fast through the canyons, or just a nice scenic cruise.
I hope to get another 914 soon.
Thanks,

Rick,
Rumor has it that Mike D has invited some other non-P cars persons as well so you'll have company. Even if you drive a Ford Fairlane as long as your a 914 fan you're welcome!

In regards to the driving; we always obey the posted speed limits huh.gif and if you've ever driven the route we'll be taking you know that the posted speeds are sufficient for spirited canyon driving. I'm also going to designate a couple of re-group spots so we won't loose anyone. It should be too early in the AM for the yuppie hog riders. Besides, they all come the opposite way from Palmcaster.

Posted by: Heeltoe914 Nov 11 2007, 10:36 AM

Hey Bill,
Hopefully there will be some of the best "carb tweakers" at the BBQ. If not you might have to settle for the "disciples" such as myself. I'll be posting details on the AM drive tomorrow.

Posted by: euro911 Nov 13 2007, 03:23 PM

Going to change the oil & filter in me wife's car tonight ... maybe get an electronic ignition module installed and transaxle fluid changed too (if time allows).

I keep thinking how nice it would be to finally drive a 914 to an event ... but then again, how would I know ... confused24.gif ...

Why not just meet at the McDonalds at the off ramp at Lake Hughes Rd.

Plenty of parking and, it will give the old farts (me included) the opportunity to empty their bladders (or Depends if Slits shows) and grab a coffee or something before setting out on the run?

Allan,
I was thinking about making the McD's but then we may never get out of the parking lot. We'd have to re-group anyway before heading up the hill. So, for those of you who need to do the bladder stop there is a McD's on the corner. But, lets still meet on Lake Hughes like planned.

Posted by: Twystd1 Nov 16 2007, 12:36 AM

What time should I be at the house? As I am not in "The Run" portion of the morning.

I will be there to break sumbodys car for sure. I bring tools to da gig.

Clayton

The drive should end back at my house around 11ish. Clayton - don't show up any earlier than that! The house will be full of women preparing for the BBQ and you'll just distract them!

Posted by: andys Nov 16 2007, 11:01 AM

Steve,

Since you're doing a Mexican menu, perhaps I can bring some Carne Preparada. Got room on the grill? Too bad my wife Paulina can't make the festivities; she knows a little something about Mexican cooking :-)

Andys

You're welcome to bring anything you would like. I will have enough Carne Asada for all but if anybody has something special we can make room on the grill.

So unless I perform some kind of miracle (waiting for backorder parts from perf prod) I won't make the canyons but I will plan on making the Q--

I will bring a bottle of real good sippin tequila and a bottle of Tequila Rose for the girls, if that is O K with you

I am too young to drink, However, as one of the birthday boys, I am registered for gifts at Pelican.com...

I also do not think it is a good thing to have Clayton at your house Steve, alone, with all the women, no supervision...I hear he can be a silver tongue devil...WAIT a minute, this "I don't have a teener to drive" thing is just a scam, he planned it all along, to be there alone, with the girls...Now someone wants to bring Tequila..HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...

2-OH!

Dave,
We'd all be disappointed if you didn't show up without one of those massive 914 crunching trucks you've got. Apparetnly there is also going to be a collective of wives so invite yours as well.

Well, the car is FERG.gif the bags are packed, and I'm getting ready to load it up. Just waiting for the GF to get here, then I'll find out all the last minute stuff that needs to be done. I hope to be driving.gif by about 4, & taking our time going down the coast, to miss traffic. headbang.gif

BTW, anybody need locks re-keyed, bring them & the best key you have, & we'll see if we can't get them done.

I stopped by the meeting point in Castaic this morning on my way back from L.A.

Why not just meet at the McDonalds at the off ramp at Lake Hughes Rd.

Plenty of parking and, it will give the old farts (me included) the opportunity to empty their bladders (or Depends if Slits shows) and grab a coffee or something before setting out on the run?

See you there in am

Jim, will you be flying up or driving the car? av-943.gif

Hey all,
Just picked up the carne asada from the local butcher, the grill is prep'd and ready, the neighbors have been warned and the house is ready for the invasion!

BTW - about the only thing we may be short on is chairs. So if you have a foldable one you might bring it.

Sadly, my day Friday ended with the 914 being towed to the mechanic. Huge fuel delivery problems. Not sure if it is the fuel delivery from the tank or something tangling up the carbs. Fuel pump was replaced about a mile from Performance Products in Van Nuys. Made a difference for a minute and then the car was choked for fuel again. This is what I get for buying and bringing back to life a car that sat for six years.

Nonetheless, I will not be attending tomorrow. Need to provide some repairs to another car this weekend so that I can get to work on Monday.

Hope to join the next ride.
