Okay, I finally submitted my VIN to my profile. Are these automatically put into a database? If so, is there a way to access this database (searches or simple counts)?
I also looked at the http://www.914world.com/specs/productionnumbers.php and was surprised that less than 120,000 vehicles were produced! That's a lot less than what I expected and, in an elitest way, that's kinda neat that there aren't many around...poor man's close to the Miura
Funny, over 3 million VW Type III's were made but good luck finding new parts for it! Less than 120K 914's were made and parts (in particular, sheet metal and seals) are easy to find! Go figure
List buy year and seperate the 9146 vin's is my vote.
It also depends on how you are going to deal with additions as time goes on. Will it be live updates ?

This all assumes of course that the members have entered legitimate VIN numbers in their controls.
Yep. 914043 is pretty easy to filter and 47xxx should be easy also.
B
It would be cool if you could add a photo with the VIN.
ok, i got a first draft up & running in the 914Info section (see menu on top of this page) ...
some of the VINs are WRONG or DOUBLE. everyone please check their VINs and correct as needed!
you can also go there by cklicking here:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=VINs
NOTE: you need to be logged-in as a member to access this page.
lemmy know if this is enough or if we need to dress this up a bit,
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Andy
i was searching for info on the vin numbers but couldnt find it, what do the numbers mean, for example mine: 4742900204
p.s. i like the vin database, found out mine was right around synthesisd's(4742900648)
This "what does my VIN number mean" question comes up quite a bit...almost as much as "what tire size can I have if I want my speedo to be correct". Maybe on the VIN page or somewhere else, someone (Andy) can write a little program where a member can just add their VIN and it will parse all that info out for them and display it for all it's glory.....maybe??
How do I input this Info? and where?
Bernie
Bern,
go to the top of this page and go into "My controls" then go into "Edit profile"
You will see it there.

The 914club VIN database is way cool Andy...
145 'member' 914 VINS are listed currently from around the world...
My recent analysis of the BAR database indicates about 7,000 to 8,000 914s should be surviving in California alone...
SO I WANNA KNOW WHERE ARE ALL THEY REST OF THEM HIDING!!!!????
What about the section for known "destroyed" or crushed cars/VIN's?
Rich, thats known as "All others"
Geoff
could we add locations like city state for the cars, that way we can see who is in our area? Then I was thinking that if you click on the title of the column it puts it in order for that title. i.e. you click on 914/6 or 914/4 and they are put in order buy the actual number. Or if you click on member then they are but in order by the member name...etc. Then there could be one for location.
Andy, that's cool.
Is a section for condition too much? Restored, driver, parts car, recycled, wrecking yard...
Chris

Didn't think this would generate such a response! What you've done is fine with me, thanks!!!! (I just came back from New Year's Eve w/my sweetie so I've been out of touch these last couple days...)
I put my # in.. it doesnt show..
Andrew
I lied. It is live. I added 9140430004 and it posted imediately.
B
Jenny has a six now???
91456813812 ???
When a new member registers, or an old member changes their VIN, the php script loads it into the db. Every time you load the VIN page, the php script queries the db.
So it's essentially live.
