and now....drum roll please. JEFF! He has been the driving force behind this conversion. The amount of passion he has for these cars, and the patience to deal with a low brow like myself, is amazing. He has a gift and I really appreciate all of his help on this. A few items to wrap up... gas linkage and electronics and down the road I go. Next is a 5 lug conversion and some new rims/tyres. Then flares and paint. Again. All of my Thanks Jeff! You are a 914 Guru.
Attached image(s)
Here here... Jeff is a very awsome guy... especially for what he has done for the NW teeners.
So Chris... You going to have that thing on the road in the next few days?
Yep. Jeff has done a lot for the NW group. As far as drive? I don't know, we will see. the list of to do's gets shorter every day. Tomorrow I will shorten the list some more.
Well, I am swapping transmissions in my Mercedes tomorrow, wife killed reverse ,but I will call you when I'm done to see how far you've got.
congrads there buddy!
Hey, where is your picture ?
I just gave you the to do list. Give yourself a big hand.
you had a 'top hand' giving you a hand. nice work guys.
Very cool. Looks close. Love the paint!
Keep at it CHris. Lookin good so far...
WOW super cool, I didn't even know you were thinking of doing a six...
Very nice
Ferg
SO is it done yet? If it is dry out we shall go for a spin tomorrow. I finished the transmision at 9:00pm so I figured I shouldn't call, but I will tomorrow to see how far you are.
sweet, keep it up!
Jim
Sorry I didn't make it over this weekend at all dude. I really wanted to check out the car progress. Wound up dealing with work a little too much this weekend.
Can't wait to see you actually driving a 914 again! And a six at that!
I understand the work thing. It has made me miss a lot. Not a problem! See you soon Dan!
Looking good Chris. I'm glad I was able to stop by and see it. It muched my air dam on that stupid speed bump but it didn't do any damage I would have been pissed at myself if it had. Get that thing streetable so we can go bomb around the city
One step forward... broke my throttle cable today. so, no progress there. Maybe later this week.
Throttle cable replaced and mounted. It looks like I have full travel. I putted the car around my complex. Now to find the little parts and finish this thing up. Maybe next week I will get it on the open road and break in the motor.
Next step. 5 lug conversion.
It's been a while since I updated this thread. Long story short, I blew up my motor and had to have it rebuild. Fired it up yesterday and Jeff did some dialing in on my carbs and timing. 5 lug conversion complete. I now have a very short list of to do's and should be able to get some serious miles the rest of this week.
Jeff who?
Jeff is going to finish my car on his way down to RRC (leaving a day early to do it!)
Jeff's the man
Can't wait to hear your car rumble Chris.
Weather should be getting nicer the rest of the week.
Yep, I am putting the motorcycle in the back of the garage so it is not so easy to ride instead of drive. Also a big thank you to Rich and Jon! the pieces are all falling into place now.
Nice!
Raise the rev limter abnout 600 rpm's and go race bovy.
hammer time
LOL! I will put it to 6500 tonight.
Your work is awsome. It was nice to hear it run out at the hands of the expert.
As far as racing Bovey, we will see.
I don't think there is a contest.
Wow, that's some smack talk
Hiya Chris! What happened to the motor? Stock rebuild? Supersize?
Hiya Gint! I was a moroon and dropped a nut. I found a nut on the floor and made the big mistake thinking it was the one I lost. Long story short, the nut dropped into piston #5, the nut eventually lodged into the exaust valve and pile drove the piston into it. Much cussing and knashing of teeth happened after I quit laughing (or was that crying?). Jeff came to the rescue and rebuilt the motor in record time for me. I have to say that Jeff is a true enthusiast and has put time, energy and vast amounts of knowledge to my project. He really went above and beyond on helping me. I also have the distiction of hitting the top 10 in catastrophic engine failues due to user error. You should have seen the crap that flew out of the exaust and dropped onto the asphalt.
Motor? hmm. umm
Say Hi To Sharon for me!
I got the battery mount at the local hot rod shop. It replaced my battery trey.

When you gonna stop by Chris?
I am really glad to hear that Dan. Maybe Friday evening I can run up and say Hi. I found some more stuff for you.
hey chris i got yer sweatshirt still, you wanna make a run out high bridge to get some break in miles?
Break in miles. hmm. I just raised the rev limiter on my car to 6500, so I am sure that some more miles would be good on it. I ran to the airport last night to pick up my son. (flight 7 hours late) and all around bellevue and lynnwood today. I could probably squeeze something in this weekend, but I will have to see. Want to run up to Dan's with me? you could show me some new back roads. Maybe tomorrow evening or this weekend some time.
Cool, I've got Humble Ed's 914 all done as well. So they'll be like 3 914-6's floating around my house tonight along with Tom's nice 914-4. They way every driveway should be.
WAY cool! what time will you be home? I will call your cell.
Hey Chris
If you have time tomorrow I could use some help I will be home about 1:00pm and working on my car until it is done. I didn't get the Engman tabs I was hoping to get so I went and made some myself. So I will need help getting the sway bar in and then bleeding the brakes. Up for it
?
Chris did swing by yesterday. His 914 sounds great! Very smooth. Just gotta keep putting those break in miles on it now.
I really wanted to go for a ride, but was backed up with work. Figures it was the only time this whole week it rained as well.
So, an update on this project. The heart transplant has been completed, the new legs are still getting the kinks worked out. Now it is time for some plasitc surgery. A little nip tuck and we will see where we are at.
picture before.....
Da Punkin is no longer. A new better faster stronger punkin will emerge.

You didn't tell me you were doing this now. Right on buddy. Need any help?
Not yet. once the welding is done, then time for some body work, then talk about paint. So, soon!
I like the black Dials!
16's in the back, 15's in the front. I like the way it looks.
Hiya Chris!
Hiya Gint and Sharon! Hope all is well with you all. Busy up here. Lots of projects going on.
Lets weld on the titties! LOL Awesome progress on this project.
Spy photo , seems Chris has got a mexican connection

I vote Jeff Hines for 914World Citizen of the year! Makes me wish I lived in Washingtoon!!!
Wow Jeff, thats looks killer. I haven't had any time to make it over to Chris's in a while.
Well it is sorta hard not to get stuff done when this guy stops by and says Hi!
Attached thumbnail(s)
Such a pretty sound!
last few pictures have a lot of grain in them. That is what I get for taking them with my phone. New pictures soon.
Ok, so, the first layer of primer is down. Now time to block it out and put on the primer sealer...
Attached image(s)
work has been way to busy. but, the light is at the end of the tunnel. Wait, that might be a train....
very unique, and nice work. i like it!
Thanks Troy, Jeff does good work. Can't wait to get it all blocked out and painted. I will be putting the Glass and interior back in this week if I can get over this throat thing I woke up with.
Its threads like this that make me want to do a six conversion. Great work. Do you have any more pictures of the flares going on, or the old ones comming off?? Actually any additional conversion details you could share ?? Again looks great...
I love orange.
sad to say, i only have one other picture. Dan Root did a great write up when he did some steel flares.
Attached image(s)
What I like about these flares is that the don't need the flared rocker panel. I should be able to see a little more meat on the car when it is done.
beautiful
Wow! I can't wait to see the whole car.
Tease
Nice !!!
Chris,
Fabulous!
Eddie

Thats bullshit. pics!!

Thats bullshit! as in you tease ..show use the whole car ....that corner looks tuff...purdy or is it pretty ....whatever love the colour
Sweet! I love the black phone dials!!
LOL! I have not wet sanded or cut and buffed this yet. I got it back from the painter this morning.
I will post some pictures this weekend after i get some other stuff sorted out in my garage. I have to make it over to Rich's house tomorrow. Maybe a picture of another phone dial....
Looks awesome Chris. More pics!
So are you going to be home this weekend? If you are I would love to swing by.
don't hate the playa...hate the game..
Jon,
where are you sitting tomorrow night?
Attached image(s)
before anybody asks. That is my wifes BMW R75/6 on the left. The R75/5 hot rod is a fun project and yes, that is RZ350 body work stacked up on it.
Tomorrow night? I'm going to the hockey game with my work.
Yes, I am going with Angela, Kieran, his girlfriend Met for Angela's work. So we will be hanging out ringing cow bells.
Gorgeous car!!!!
Hi Kyle,
Not much history. they came off of another car and Jeff thought I would like them. We had spoken about doing a small flare car after seeing the picture of the white and lime green car. So, when these came up, we went for it. They are steel with some filler.
The cool thing with these is that you don't need the GT rockers. The thread has almost all of the pictures I have for this car. I will add 1 more I took late last night.
In the end, the car will be Pheonix Red, pewter trim and black bumpers. It should be fun.
After I am done, I will post a before, during and after picture

Look great Chris
Thank you Ferg! Angela says the 2.2 is almost as fun as your 2.7 was. It takes a bit more work, but, she goes!
Got some more stuff done today. It was sort of sureal.
Turn signals in and wired check
Running lights converted to white LED, blocked off from amber portion of front turn signal. Check
all turn signals work check
all hazards work check
head lights work and go up and down check
trim pices for window surronds in check
Tomorrow through Wednesday:
New vinyl on dash
Pull plugs and check
check spark and fuel
Start and run out
Work on front bumper
work on front air dam
Wednesday pick up side skirts and stuff
The pile of crap in my garage for this car keeps getting smaller. Good
The pile of crap in my garage for the RZ is down to 1 or 2 pices. good
The pile of crap in my garage for the r75 is reducing rapidly. good.
Maybe I will get all three projects done in the next few weeks. That would be fantasitc!
Updated picutes are coming this week.
as promised

Hiya Gint!
Hiya Ferg!
How are things in the winter wonderland? Hope all is well with the families!
Everything's cool here Chris. You?
It has been a wierd winter. No snow to speak of, and a couple of long sections of sunny and warm (50 deg) weather. Which means more time to spend on the car without freezing.
We did have one streach of really cold weather. I had Angela out putting a new bumper on her jeep at 19 degrees. The next day was 50. She wasn't very happy about that. But, the bumper was on and good.
lots of grain from my cell phone, but, here is a door.
Attached thumbnail(s)
That looks really good Chris!
Thanks! The dash and the back pad should look the same. More picts to come this weekend.
It's come a long way Chris, great job! I gotta not be a stranger and swing by sometime.
Hi Dan! swing by. I have lots of stuff going on. Take care and glad to hear from you!
Awesome project! Also, great to see another RZ fan. Here's my modified 84 Rz.
(Not finished
)
That is sweet!
Not to hi-jack Chris's thread but perhaps you can re-post in the Sandbox (MC) thread & detail some of the mods?
Good to see you today Dan! Stop by any time!
Dan stopped by today? Wow, been a while since we have seen him
Hope all is well Dan
ready for a test fit Jon? Maybe this weekend?
Saturday night would be good...AX on Saturday day.
Sunday night is fine as well but may have had a few watching the F1 race
LOL! cool. Getting ready to watch qualifing now.... lets see what the boys have for us this year.
Good to catch up Chris and yes, I'll have to crash a Teener Tuesday soon. It's been a while since I've been able to fart in Troy's general direction.
The 914 looks really good, the flares are crazy cool! Very unique.
Not to hijack, but I tried to purschase my old blue car back. Current owner won't sell though. So not sure what to do at this point. I don't think I have the energy to build another one.
Last 914 project I did had lots and lots of this (actual picture):
Reeeeeeealy don't want to get into all that again.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Dan,
We have the technology to make it bigger, better stronger. And help out. We could do another one and have it well sorted out. We could even practice on one first to make sure we have the details sorted....
Yeah, yeah. Don't try to get me all juiced up, I'm still only surpervising your roof project.
LOL! yep, but, with another one under your belt it would be pretty straight forward for us to do a third.....hint, hint, nudge, nudge...
Ugmo?!
Big thank you to Rich for stopping by and helping me put the back pad back together.
Pieces are going on and need to be adjusted, but, everything is almost back where it should be.
Attached image(s)
a couple more.
Sorry for the mess.
Attached image(s)
Hey! What kind of MOMO is that? I dig that more than a 3 post!
I have no idea. Bruce (former owner) may have the information. I will look today.
Pictures don't do the 914 justice. It's really turning out nice!
Trade ya for my Box!
Ok, down to air dam, clutch adjust and run it out.
She pulled out of the Garage and around the courtyard under her own power for the first time since last fall! Yeah!

The car is looking so good Chris!
Wow Chris, that looks amazing! Well done.
Michelle and I stopped by Rich's, picked up a couple of parts. We would have swung by but it looks like it's about to dump some rain and I didn't want to put the top back on.
Those flares really did turn out good. Love the color.

Awesome! Hey, Mulkiteo Beach!
Yep! it stopped raining for a few minutes. So, off I went.
Then it got sunny. Pacific Northwest. What can you say.

that thing is just bad ass!!!
Those apartments look really familiar. Where are they at? If you don't wanna answer I understand why. I am just curious...
Condo's. Sunset park south. by Evergreen and Casino. Yep. I live in da hood yo
Ha ha ha...I know exactly where that is. It's actually really close to where I grew up and where my parents live still.
Great looking car Chris!
Are you putting together the next Teener Tuesday so we can all see her?
Attached image(s)
Nice Chris!
Had another chance to see Chris's 914 on Saturday. Love that 914!
The interior is really turning out nice as well. That dark grey is very cool!
are these flares available for sale somwhere?
a rear set would be nice.
at first i thought they were hammered out on car -then i saw a pics of a panel taped to the car.
jim
I got them in trade from Jamie who cut them off a junkyard 914. 3 were pretty nicely done The 4th one I think the person just wanted to be done.
They do look unique for sure.
basically, they were made by cutting the fender and tipping it out the desired amount and then add strips of metal.
