Show’s that the 1972 year with a 2.0L engine option. Is that correct? Could you buy a 1972 with a 2.0L?

btw. there's production numbers, which start in '69. a lot of '73 cars were actually produced in '72.
so, technically, yes, there were 4817 2.0L 914s build in '72, *BUT* they were all sold as '73 models and had a '73 VIN number ...

how about the 200+ 914-6s built for '72....they were 2.0Ls afterall or were those just left over '71s?

So is that a yes or no guys? So far you said 73 had them and then you said 71 had them. What about 1972?

looking at the production numbers provided by Andy maybe a 2.0 six since some were produced in 71 and 72. The vin with start with 914 on the six instead of 472 on the four.

Dan is referring to six cylinders when he talks about left over 71's.

well, he *did* mention '73 2.0L cars so i *assumed* he was talking about the 4 cylinder cars as *no* /6 cars were build in '73 ...

There were 2.0L cars in 1972, but they were six cylinder 914s.

Could a 2.0/4 engine have slipped into the verrrry end of the 1972 model year, during changeover time?

no, i didn't. never said anything about '71.

*NO* 2.0L 4 cylinder cars prior to '73 ... see link i provided above ...

all production 6 cylinder cars had a 2.0L /6 (doh!) motor ...

i *clearly* stated above that *NO* car with a '72 VIN ever left the factory with a 2.0L 4 cylinder motor.

i don't think you can "define" it any more clear ...

as you can see, that pelican page also lists "Production Numbers", and the 2.0L produced in '72 all clearly have '73 VIN numbers ...

like i said, '73 was the first year of the 2.0L /4 engine ...

Just for informational purposes......

I picked up my 72 914 on 8/22/72. It had the appearance group, but the wheels & tires were 4.5/155's. Even then I knew that was wrong. So, I told the dealer that I expected the proper wheel/tire combination, or I wouldn't take it.

Dealer told me they had one of the new 914S cars & it had the correct wheel width/tire combo & I could have them from that car for (I think) $200. Didn't like the Fuchs (yeah, I know - but I've changed) & couldn't afford another $200. So, we made another deal (I was very visibly pissed). They would order the correct wheel/tire combo & throw in a Bursch exhaust. Took the offer.

I was fine with the wheels/tires, but the Bursch vibrated against my snowplow rear valence until its resonance cracked the metal.

Point is - there were 2 liter cars available in the late summer of 72. I can only assume that they were VIN'd as '73's.

Anyway, just having fun, please don't take offense, i knew what you meant but I see how it could have been confusing since the 6's were 2.0 Liters and available in 72.
