ECC 2007 was rad. 20 cars (15 914s, 2 912s, 1 944, 1 T4 Beetle, 1 beastly sandrail.) About 60 people over 8 hours.
ECC 2008 could be radder.
It only happens if we make it happen. So lets make it happen.
I would like to propose the weekend of Sept 27-28, 2008.
Events will include a rebuilt tranny raffle via DrEvil, and a New In Box 19mm ATE master cylinder raffle. $20 buy in for each, proceeds going to pay for the party.
This will put us after the All Aircooled Gathering in NJ the prior weekend (Sept 20th.) So all you NE guys can come down and play this year too. Also, this will clear us of two MidA PCA Drivers Ed events happening on Sept 13-14.
I will head the planning effort.
The party will be held at Slackin' at Work's farm:
2344 Old Lynchburg Road
Charlottesville VA 22903
2) Would people be willing to put a little money in the till for the party? Not much - like $5 or $10 to help the planners offset the costs?
Hopefully my car will be able to get to the party this year!
pic stolen from the ECC 2007 thread
Zach
Hey Zach, i'll kick in a few $$ for planning. Good idea on the weekend change. and who's that speed camera tester standing in the front row?
Glad to throw in a few $$$ for a venue, although the only house I can offer has a tiny yard!
Hopefully I can stay for more than 2 hours this year too! Calendar is marked.
First Settler's Region is hosting the Zone 2 PCA Club Race at http://www.virclub.com on August 8-10th. We could have a 914 coral and camp overnight. Just a thought.
If no one objects to driving to central VA (charlottesville), I will be more than willing
to offer up my place for a venue. I have enough room for say 200-300 914s if we had to.
there are excellent roads around here for a cruise as well.
Ive been thinking about putting a BBQ together, so why not get one "pre-made".
we can also have a bon-fire later in the day.
camping over night is a possibility too. or there are plenty of nice hotels around.
I have yet to meet anyone here.
here is the only picture I could find that shows part of my yard. it's a really nice setting.
we tend to have a few big BBQs a year here... so why not the 914 crowd.
Now... life is super-busy right now for me so I can't plan the thing... but I can host it.
Zach has seen my place, however I could only park about 8 cars in the driveway, with plenty of street parking. The down side is the back roads suck!
charlottesville va on map - for me from milton de - 4hrs and 40mins each way
Attached image(s)
I'd be totally happy with c'ville. I go down there enough for games and drive past it plenty to visit the wife's family in Lynchburg area.
Just a thought but what IF we did the shenendoah skyline dr area? You talk about nice roads and I would think a fair drive for all.....say front royal? http://ci.front-royal.va.us/outdoor_activities.asp?M=1&P=7&S=8
Front Royal sounds a little more do-able than C-ville for me. But that's only because my car can't carry enough oil to replenish all it would burn on the drive down there ;-).
Slackin'--Do you track your R32? You might know a friend of mine...
200 miles is nothing - so long as I have someone to follow me with a chase car. Assuming I take my 914, it will likely be the first trip of substance that it makes. 4 hours from my location - no biggie, but I would need to camp. I love that area.
It might proclude Erin and my son from coming though. I don't know how she would feel about camping with a 5 month old, and the drive would be too long to ask her to drive it alone with the kid, chasing me in her Prius. We are going to try camping with infant Theodore, so who knows.
My only other concern is that it would be too far away from the NoVa, Philly, Frederick triangle that seems to be home to a rather large cluster of teeners.
I'd like to hear from you all.
Charlottesville is gorgious, but I want to know if you guys thing it is too far.
Zach
Count me in wherever it ends up and camping might be a possibility depending on the weather patterns at the time..
No prob for me THat weekend MAY be. There has been a ever growing foreign car show in town around that time and I ditched it last yearfor the ECC, and heard about it ad nauseum from some of our customers, so I had better go this year. Gotta pimp myself right? Besides I plan to have the bike enterd this year Oh and I 'd love to see a bigger campout crowd JIM.........
Scotty, find out what weekend the car show is. I planned around the AACG, we can change dates if it conflicts with the one near you. Just let me know ASAP.
Zach
Will do. Last year as I said it was the weekend of the ECC and I THINK it was the same the previous year. I had actually thought that IF I could ever get my property cleared we could have a get together here, and bombard the show with busted ass teeners....wait that didn't come out right.......
I would drive to Charlottesville, VA.
Perhaps the Baltimore-Frederick-Central PA triangle folks would make a brief scenic drive DOWN the skyline drive on the way TOO C-ville. Camping would be great too.
I have been to the last 3 I need to check my school schedule first. It doesnt come out for a few more days at least. I can do VA if I have to, but I LOVED Matt's place last year. I would be camping, or crashing on floor. From me the c'vill area is 5 hours at least. Zach, Noel can drive Erin and your spawn. My car should definitely be done by then....unless something else happens.
Would love to get in on this. i live in Roanoke VA. and i am having a hard time finding teener people around here. Front Royal would be great for me along with Hoo ville. sky line drive and blue ridge parkway close by. willing to donate to$$
Coby
I have been awayt from my 914 in Africa for two years and would love to come, but you are a week too early for me to be able to make it. Can't depart post until after sept 15th.
Nick
Zach:
I will be there, heck it,s only 600 miles, and ten hrs. Will kick in $$$ or buy Beer as last yr. Also I need a place to wear my very special 2007 ECC T-Shirt.
Just let me know time and place ,and who to send the money to.
Dave
P.S. I WILL DRIVE MY 914.
Slack'n, looks to me like you _ARE_ hosting ECC this year.
I am going to start an event planner thread on the Future Events board, and any one that wants to help plan please let me know and I will let you know the password once the thread is created.
Zach
Can I bring the TR6
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... time to load the Krauser Bags on the BMW.
Road Trip!
Na, I am actually driving my 914 down this year (fingers crossed).
IF I have the bus, AND I have it running, I may bring it and tow the 914 so I can sleep in the bus. OR, if I am lucky then someone will drive it down for me
Scotty, have you figured out when your other event was?
Nick, I'd move it back for you, but I am concerned about 1) impinging on the All Aircooled Gathering in Jersey and 2) moving the event towards the end of Sept, when the weather gets to be more dicey.
Zach
The Events Forum protected planning thread can be located here:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showforum=71
If you would like to be part of the ECC planning team, please contact me and I will forward the password to you.
Zach
it would be neat to have the event on or about 9/14 as the others. i'm hoping it's saturday (9/13) due to logistics of everybody getting home the next day (9/14)
I say the "bikers" show up and trash the place...
Where are da wimminz??!!
:hijack:
He sold it out from under me... I asked him what he needed to have for it and he said he would get back with me. I told him I'd like to buy it. I told him I wasn't trying to weasel him on it but I honestly didn't know the value and, if he would tell me what he had to have I would buy it. He said he'd think about it.
I called him a week later, while I was on vacation in Hatteras and he said he had someone coming up from S.D. to look at it and buy it.
I found one the next day - 30 minutes fresh on Craig's List. My brother went to Hollywood to look at it and bought it for a grand less than I was going to pay that guy, and I got Krauser bags included. All the papers from day one. Completely original. Curry.
:end hijack:
It would be cool to bike out there... or maybe the 911.
Well right now it looks like the car show is going to be that very weekend Zach. If there are enough people wlling to go the weekend BEFORE that would be great, otherwise I might have to trry and do both that weekend
For any intersted in making the trek to RIC here are some pics from last years show. The Maserati we did was there as well as 2 of the Fiat race cars we built
http://www.cvbcc.com/classics/pix/photos_from_jim_godwin.htm
I up for the trek as long as its not the AACG weekend . . . definitely kick in some cashmoney for planning costs, etc.
I missed last year b/c my wife had me run some errands for her, was ready to depart at 5 PM but figured it was too late to make the trek although it was only 40 minutes away. I REALLY want to make this one. Will be glad to kick some $$$ for the event. There is a DE event at N.J. Motorsports Park Sept. 12-14 that I would like to do also .. same as the proposed weekend. I'll have to wait and see how it all plays out, but I would help out $$$ either way. It's sooooo good to be with teener people!
Hey, Im new to your board but have owned teeners on and off since 76 (a 70 1.7 1st) Have a great place that we've hosted over 300 folks before ... campovers, local hotels, 20 mi. from the "Carlisle Event " folks ..167 chainsaw rd. dillsburg, pa 17019. Ten switchback driveway up the highest mtn in York Co PA. Check out the satellite image! We usually have a big Labor Day blowout but this year it has been moved to the 4th of July. We'd love to host a teener event and press a few welders into service, just kidding, we love welding. 2 hrs from DC, 6 hrs from Lime Rock, 6 hrs from VIR
Plenty O' parking, and shuttle sevice from the street (w/ safe parking) for those w/ the low air dams. We have great local musican friends who love to play till 3 am or so and great 4wheel trail riding for the fearless crowd. Campovers are always encouraged.
Jon, Michele, Zach, and Emily
Wow . . . Very nice!
Welcome to the Club too.
Thanks jd but its not all that nice, faces north and in the winter snow (read ice) stays on the drive forever. We keep old suv's w/ the metal chains to ferry up and down. On the Cookout, I didn't mean to jump into you guys regular party, and hope to meet some of you at the Hershey Swap. Any place to get together w/ Porsche keepers is a good place to me. But if it worked out that you folks wanted to use our place, please feel welcome.
hmmmm. the dillsburg location looks nice. maybe the ECC schedule could include a side trip to Aircooled .... Racing(?) . steve lamberts shop.....
The location for the 2008 ECC has been chosen, and will be at Slack'n At Works farm.
Dillsburg would be a good point for 2009 - especially since it is a hop-skip-and a jump away from where I live. It would also bring the ECC back north of the Mason-Dixon after three years south of it.
By the end of this week i want to have the date finalized.
since thre are two different MidA Drivers Ed meets, and a competing MidA show on Sept 13, I have asked Slack'n if Sept 27th will work. I am waiting to hear back from him now.
I guess I am planning this puppy after all. I need to hide the veggie peeler.
Zach
Okay, we have a confirm that the 27th of Sept (and 28th for campers) works for the host.
This will clear the All Aircooled Gathering on the 20th, The DE at Pocono on the 13th, the DE in Jersey on the 13th and ScottyB's show on the 13th.
We are arranging sponsorship, and so we need this date to be nailed ASAP. If there is something that conflicts the planners need to know about it. On Friday (2/22), unless there is something significant that we have overlooked, the 27th will become the official date.
Zach
Wow, that driveway would be great to have...it's only about 2 hours from Arlington also!
The date (9/27) works great! The Parade & all the other major CW things will be done by then. I'll be there with the 14!
Willing to kick some bucks in to help - LMK.
Pat
I hope I can make it....still no schedule for year 4
I'll be a sponsor!
27th is great for me. I should have been back in the country for 12 days. Enough time to get the teener fired up. It will be weird driving on paved roads . . .
Nick
We are trying to get some sponsorship from local area businesess so that we don't have to ask for money from the members.
Zach
as far as camping... there are 2 options.
1. you can throw up a tent in my field... for the die-hard campers
2. we have a https://koa.com/koacampgroundsearch/SearchResults.aspx?SearchString=22903&x=14&y=6 about .5 miles down the road for the wussies.
<camper snob> I would NEVER consider a KOA site to be hard core camping. Pitching a tent by the car is way more hardcore. </camper snob>
Hey, bitch'n, we have a ECC banner ad!
Whoever did that, THANKS!
Zach
Depending on how much I drink, I may throw up a tent, a spleen and a liver
Hmm . . . Its an 8hr drive one way . . . but the chance to see dozens of 914s and meet the people on here. Sounds good. And my girlfriend goes to school at almost exactly the half way point. I wonder if you guys would scare her too much?
Oh my goodness.. I just realized that if I'm working at the right pace... I'll actually be able to entertain the thought of driving a 914 to a 914 event!
Are there tow trucks between here and central Va? I may need a reputable service
Since there are several of us traveling on the I-95 corridor, we may be able to plan a caravan as we get closer.
Oh, and my wife definitly wants to camp, unless it's raining....
Depending on how much I drink I may throw up in my tent
Mike, Jon, Dan wnna try and get an actual setlist toether this time. Or will everyone be driving a tiny car this year ? I'm planning on bringing the 944, won't be very pretty but it will be a bit more worthy than the Vulva
The 27th is a good date for me. I should be there barring some creature like in Cloverfield doesn't go stomping around central Virginia. Let me know if you get a caravan together. I live really close to I95 right outside of Wash., D.C..... would like to tag along.
27 th good here too. If i am still alive! Zach, is there a Pay Pal acct. to use for money. Dave
P.S. See you all at HERSHEY?????
Yeah Zach, after that dealEo you will be on her SHIT LIST for a while......LOL best thing that'll ever happen to you my man. POST MORE PICS OF YOUR CAR DUDE!

music? i'd like to get in on this.....

Sure, but I am still unclear of whether massa med school will let Dr. Evil Kintea off of the plantation to play.

That's the best reason to miss Hershey I have ever herd.
So make his or her first 914 meet the 2008 ECC.

We can still get some idea of songs and if you can't then we won't. Crowd friendly stuff I gues. German related Rammstein ?Megaherz?
I can do Du Hast and Angel. Maybe Fire Frei.
I started working on some originals and polishing up some old ones I wrote. I wish I could program a drum machine so I could multi track them Freaking head ache for a guitar/bass player.
No one complained. The event is now set for Sept 27 - 28.
Put it on your calenders now.

Now you talkin broskillet! HELL YA!!!
P.S. All tent pitchin should be done prior to darkness, drunkenness, and all activities which involve nakedness.
music - i missed it last year - and am not ahppy about it - missed out on my fair share of booze too (but this is better than wakeing up covered in SHARPIE art : )
who is manning the cow bell?

Ride of the Valkyries?

Screw that!
Iron Butterfly -"In a gadda da via", or I won't come. Well, just no Manilow - and I aint kidding about that!
Can anyone dup the riff between Clapton & Robertson in The Last Waltz? Ooh, I'd kill for that!
Pat
Man, I hope my schedule is clear I still dont know.
For music I can bring my guitar, bass, and my 1/4 stack. We will need to remember extension cords (chords) and power strips
Seriously, I have figured out Angel and Du Hast if any one wants to do the key boards for them
Scotty, double bass?
ok, give me a set list so my kid and I can learn some stuff...
I have already been practicing "In-a-gadda-da-vita"...I still have 17 1/2 minutes to learn...
List hehehehe!!!
914 Song by aaaah moi
thanks - last year was fun - I am sorry now that I bugged out early but it Ironic that the bright yellow brother car took my place in the parking lot.
Keep me posted - would throw in what ever you want $$$ wise
Bill
Aaaaaaaaa Yeaaaaaah! That time frame (27-28) Is perfect for me! It is right at the end of my Family Practice acting internship and right before my easy Radiology rotation. I am happy today!
Excellent dude! Glad to hear it!
Zach
Black Sabbath. N.I.B.
kthxbye
Alright guys. IF we are serious about the music lets get some recommendations from the party goers as to what they would like to hear, Mike Jon, Dan, whomever else thinks they can handle our fury, and myself can go through the suggestions and see what is doable. I first need to see how much I can cram in the 944, or Vulva just in case
I'm not a big fan of head bangin death metal or rap, but will listen to just about anything else rock, blues some country, alternative. I'm definitely a Cracker fan....
Let's go for a ride!
I need MORE COW BELL!
Dave
Its on! More cow bell tunes please.
Out of the shadows, thread! You need some sun!
Zach
I have been working on a mental set list

- Wild horses and other Stones tunes
- Sweet home Abalama, Freebird
- Wish you were here
Artist ideas:
- Hendrix
- Black Sabbath: NIB, Sweet leaf, War Pigs

Other suggestions?
Who can bring lots of wood for the bond fire?
He's in the CoUnTrY should have lots of dead wood...I can bring a chainsaw!
If cow bell is what you want...
Any tejano music will drowned you in cow bell....
That and... Blue Oyster Cult.
Drop the Blue and the Oyster and I'm cool with what's left
Announcement :
There will be NO Skynard, BTO or Blue oyster cult at the ECC.
Thank you, please drive through !

metallica Sandman
tuesdays gone skynard remade by metallica
boom boom boom john lee hooker?
green onions booker t & the mgs
The reason I have not labeled some songs from some groups is that I need to keep them easy. We are not going to have one minute of practice and by the time we start up our noise we will likely be well plied with beer. So, dont get your hopes up, but if you are as beered up as us it should sound just fine
Sandman is the gateway to the beginning of the end of Metallica Check out: Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Kill 'em All, And Justice For All to see what was compared to this lounge crap they perpetrate now
Right on with the artists: Booker T, John Lee Hooker, and LS
Stones...only soong of theirs I really like is paint it black. Always wanted to hear Social D cover it but NOOOO they had to do under my thumb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYrzQqtEIKI&feature=related
Doors = The End
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbI5K0AzNHI&feature=related
Metallica = The thing that should not be, harvester of sorrows
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEwr9rDvHxY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WSF0lf0kdM
Sabbath = sweet leaf Have you heard Godsmacks cover ??

Zeppelin Kashmir ! Bring your violin bow Mike !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTaOvzZKRxA
THE Cult She sells sanctuary
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQJXYc5Zq6k
Prodigy = breath
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kbW4ibIF8U

Van Halen = eruption
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBBsxH3uSJg
Dream theater = A change of seasons ( 26 minute song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu_ikrNN780
I dont like VH, or the doors. And Godsmack
For Metalica I was thinking more of Disposable Heroes
Evil PM'd me and woke me up to the ECC Jam Session!
Looking quickly at the set list so far puts me in total practice mode, 'cept for
'Paint it Black' If you stick with that one I used to be able to pick that lead pretty
good. Can also play a mean 'Louie-Louie' lead but that's prolly too old for you freakin' puppies! Plus me AX is broken! If I get my weapon fixed I'll practice some of the newer stuff!
I'll see if I can dig up a decent stereo recorder so we can lay down a live recording too!
hmmmmm I have a tascam, Digital mixing board....don't know if it would do all you want...need cool edit pro and a laptop...
Not to deviate from the task and topic at hand:
ZACK, how about a update on your latest project, No not the 914, the baby:
Dave
I am trying to keep the set list from going into the slow rock death spiral I was just thinking that we could do some KISS as most of there stuff is simple. I was just listening to Detroit Rock City on the radio. Also, I can do Red Hot Chili Peppers.
KISS
RHCP
Stained - Outside
Oh dear lord no KISS
I figured by now you'd be wanting some Janice, Dead, and CSNY bus boy

I'm a "Friend of the Devil" myself. Although I work down the street from Terrapin Station.

Rain plan?
Other then a car cover and more beer?

Great avatar, improvement over the other. !!!!!!!!

As long as every song uses "C", "D" and "G" I'll be good to go. I could slip in an "A" or an "E" every once in awhile if I had to.
G, D, C is most ballads from 70-80s
Please don"t forget "THE Cow Bell " , I NEED MORE COW BELL!!!!!!!!!
DAVE
Ever since I was a tiny boy
I don't want no candy
I don't need no toy
I took a stick and an old coffee can
I bang on that thing til I got
Blisters on my hand because
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
Bump... I know Zach's been busy with the youngin and all. Is there anything that is needed at this point?
-Mike
This is a 914 World news bulletin!!!!!!!!!!
Read the pervious addition to this thread by "Zymurgist" the poor lad is crying
out for help! He admits to calluses on the palms of his hands, and banging his
drum all day. This is a desperate cry for help!!! I don't know his age , but lets
find a woman for him by the cook out, O.K. Let's save a good man!!!!!
Dave
Dude, have you met Ken? We are gonna need either one sturdy woman or several standard built women at once.
Make that a good woman. I still have standards, donchaknow.
If I make it in a 914 it would be a miracle, but I aint ruling it out yet. Maybe I will have the bus done by then....probably not.
Eh, we will see
"Evil Is My Co-Pilot."
Sounds like something I would say.
A bump to the thread, and a look at the new ECC logo, made by Slack'n at Work:
We are looking at shops to make shirts. Anyone have reliable shops we could deal with?
Zach
I plan on attending & bringing the LE this time instead of the soon to be disassembled six.
I was talking to the http://www.cdoc.com/ rep at the Porsche Parade about racing seat sizes and he said I could go to the CDOC warehouse near Charlottesville to try some out. So I got to thinking that maybe the ECC gang might want to take a tour of the facility. Before the heavy drinking starts of course.
Does that sound like something you guys might want to do?
Do people want shirts for this event?
I will handle the sale of shirts, but I do not have the time to find someone to do the printing. If we want to have shirts made, we will need to act now.
I wish I had more time, but I am stretched to the brink as it is. I am putting out a call for help.
Thanks
Zach
Bumpity Bump Bump.
Anybody from Charlotte feel like caravaning? I would have my wife drive the support vehicle on the 6 hour trek, but she has another engagement the weekend of ECC.
Come on Charlotte Teeners.... you know you want to represent

Just over a month away.
my car won't make it. to much other stuff going on to get significant work done on it. :-(
But I'm still looking forward to it!
Zach
Bring a piece of it with you, thats all I can do
Emo kid
My new can of worms should be at Scotty's country mansion tomorrow sometime.
To raise funds for the ECC, I have decided to raffle off one of my spare part.
So.
I have NIB, ATE 19mm Master Cylinder (worth $180 something) from Pelican.
Tickets will be $20, cash, at the ECC.
This is a great addition to your car, and all the proceeds will go directly to defraying the costs of setting this gig up.
Zach
There are costs? Talk to me. I am willing to raffle off a tranny rebuild or a rebuilt tranny depending on how many sign up. I also have bolt sets that I am bringing as door prises and such. All the other rallies have hit me up, why not you guys?
Zach - What kinds of costs are there? I'm happy to donate cash. What's needed? Jason
An ECC costs a couple hundred dollars to put on - mostly all by the host. Me being who I am, I would rather raffle something then to raise the funds then pass a hat. I guess I am not good at asking for things.
That said, I do have this spare master cylinder. I could send it back to Pelican, but this way I get to raise a little money for an event I enjoy w/o putting in new funds.
Zach
Like I said, PM me and let me know and I can work something out with some of my products
Sept. 27-28 is coming up quick guys
Time to start a caravan plan. Anyone coming through Richmond wanna link up ?
JON ??? ARE YOU OUT THERE ????????
I'm planning to head to the area on Friday, and would be interested to hear any hotel suggestions.
Oh yah, I can donate a 901 that needs a home, for raffle. Doc, if your interested, your welcome to open it up for value assesment.
HA! Jon fell into "the void" if you know what I mean
(he has a girlfriend now and does not need us )
Woot!
So we have raffles now for a rebuit transmission by our own Dr. Evil, and for a New in Box ATE 19mm Master Cylinder. $20 buy in for each!
Rick is working on shirts, and we should have advance pricing soon.
Things are really shaping up!
Zach
I'll be coming up through Richmond, staying at my father's place on Friday night.
Need to get my car tuned and ready to go.
-Mike
this is my path according to google - if you live along this route - stay off the sidewalk : )
Attached image(s)
I have another guy interested in following me over with a six he just finished
I also need the name of a clean, cheap motel near the site. let me know please
Dave
Charlottesville is a college town so plenty of hotels around and UVA football is away that w/e so prices shouldn't be too bad.
jimkelly, avoid 95, almost at all costs. either take 301 across the potomac bridge at dalghren then thru fredericksburg or caravan with us (root, jason, jim, nathan, babydoll, ken, norustscott, matt .... , well, unconfirmed) from NOVA down 29
if you're passing thru bowie, pick up degreeoff
sounds like a good plan - i will pm DEGREE - and meet up with you'all
jim

So I went to the brew store yesterday and bought 14 pounds of grain, 4 ounces of hops, and some yeast. I ended up with this.
Izzat how its supposed to be?
Pretty much. The particles floating around are a combination of hot break, cold break, and hops. I plan to let this kick for a couple of days until fermentation subsides, then siphon to secondary fermenter. I love glass bottles... the fermentation process produces heat and you get some good convection currents in the fermenter. As Chauncey Gardener said, "I like to watch."
I just realized this time of year the leaves will be off to a nice start. We definitely need a drive. How far off of skyline drive are you ?
Well, I might be able to drive the old Jeep down for the ECC. 914 won't be done, but the jeep is close to drivable.
And if I take the Jeep, I can just winch up the whole engine stand thing and have some local pros help get my carbs dialed in. :-)
We will se how brave I am on the day of. The truck has not had time to prove itself to me.
Zach
Don't you mean carbs?
This is what I get for posting while feeding a baby.
Zach
it looks like i may be able to get time away to attend this little shin-dig. need to know if we are doing a one day (saturday) or 2 day (sat/sun) gathering. want to make the proper reservations. that KOA is looking pretty good!!!
cheers,
scott
as far as i know, one day. but that may be modified by ken's beverages.....
Hotels may be available. UVa plays away at Duke that weekend.
Slackin had said camping may be available at the event site so you can stumble to your tent
I gave up on sleeping in tents as soon as I got a job and could afford a hotel room.
Bump to the front page
How close does the event have to be to get it nailed to the top of the page?
per well known and respected admin - nailing is no longer done.
we will need to keep it high ourselves
jim
it's getting close!!
sorry I haven't been around the forum too much lately. been super-busy.
it's going to be a great time. the only possible bummer is we haven't had ANY rain in like 6 weeks and things aren't quite as green as I'd like. we're probably going to have a burn-ban in place soon if we don't get any rain. so more than likely we won't be able to have a big-ol-bon fire. that just means we will need to drink more.
the leaves won't be changing down here then. we're a few weeks early. mid october is the best leaf-time. if you want to see some views anyway, skyline drive is about 40 minutes from here. If you're carb'd, make sure your carbs are tuned, because the highway to get to the parkway likes to eat little aircooled 4-cylinders for lunch.
we have plenty of room in the field for people to put up a tent saturday night. we just purchased the surounding 21 acres so now we can fit about 3000 914s... so the more-the-merrier.
there are plenty of hotels in charlottesville. from cheap to 5-stars depending on what you want. downtown charlottesville is a great place and is about 9 miles away... so everything is pretty convenient. it's good UVA doesn't have a home game or else I think my field would be the last option in town.
traveling from points north, I would also suggest taking US 29. 95 can be a little tricky especially in a 914. plus it's not that much longer to cut over to 29south via 66west.
anyway, can't wait to meet all of you who are coming. should be a blast!
-chris
OK, the date Sept.27 & 28 , Right? And who do I Pay Pal Money to, E-Mail please. Dave
I think I am post # 200?????
Edit: Who is colleting money for T-Shirts???
Hey Baltimore - Washington - and anyone further North: want to meet up somewhere to caravan down there? Leesburg would be an idea. "Type47" and "Root", any ideas where to meet?
Skyline Craw might be fun but it's not in the direct route.. maybe some other time.
Matt a good place to meet in Leesburg would be in the Safeway parking lot. There is a Roy Rodgers there and is right on RT 15 on the south side of town.
I was asked about cheap (but clean) hotels nearby.
there are 2 hotels right off rt64 and conveniently located about 6 miles away from my house. on the same road even, so it's a straight shot out.
they are directly across the street from each other on 5th street so either one is fine.
http://www.sleepinn.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=VA344&promo=gglocal
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/choso?rpb=hotel&crUrl=/h/d/hi/1/en/hotelsearchresults
we had friends stay at both when we got married and there were no complaints.
I think the sleep inn is newer and is the cheaper of the two.
Got to stay in a hotel, according to Susan!
Just called Sleep Inn, talked to Drew and got a suite for $139.99 for Saturday night
Sept. 27th.
According to Drew there are only smokin' rooms left at Sleep Inn.
Regular smokin' rooms are $129.99 ouch!
I'll be bringing, Susan, $ for raffle's, and 2-clutch alignment tools for raffling!
Kyle may show on as well!
Matt! Best caravan meet point for me is Gilbert's Corner intersection of Rt. 50 and Rt. 15. Do you know it?
I'll bring at least 2 of these for raffling-
I'm looking for cheap. How far is the Fairfield Inn on Blanchlands blvd from your location? It's $59 a night.
Mack 9146:
And everyone else interested. thru Price Line
Super 8, 390 Greenbrier Dr. 8 mile s from site $65.00 a day. macks is better
Just thought I would give you all a heads up Dave
Just checked on the Fairfield Inn and that $59 price is for Feb 29. The weekend of Sept 27-28 it's $129 a night. Dave I will check with the super *.
Mack
The proceeds for the alignment tool raffle will go towards ECC cost.
Also:
FREE WELDING SERVICE TO ANYONE ATTENDING ECC
If you have something you need welded before ECC..... PM me!
If you send it to me I can weld it up and deliver it to you at ECC on the 27th.
Can weld steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper, stainless, you name it!
I'm working on the final details on the shirts. We're going with the "work" style shirt. The back will be silk screened with the logo. We may also have the option of embroidery on the front for your name or username. I'll post pictures as soon as can find a picture of the shirt we want.
Where is a picture of the shirt from the other Ramble that we discussed earlier?
Searching through 12 pages is killing me!
Nope nothing nada little bit further down where 15 crosses 66 there is a Sheetz.
Any NOVA people want to suggest a place right off of 66 to meet with lots of parking space and maybe somewhere to use a restroom and get a coffee? What about Fair lakes shopping area? Is that Sheetz right off 66 on rt15?
Any NOVA people want to suggest a place right off of 66 to meet with lots of parking space and maybe somewhere to use a restroom and get a coffee? What about Fair lakes shopping area? Is that Sheetz right off 66 on rt15?
Yes the Sheetz is right on 15 near Haymarket before you cross the train tracks in your heading south on 15 it is on the left hand side. Stopped there a many a time. It is near 66 and 55.
Don't know how to put the map on here but here is a link
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Sheetz&city=Haymarket&state=VA&address=15315+Washington+St&zipcode=20169&country=US&latitude=38.815412&longitude=-77.642742&geocode=ADDRESS&id=2508014
Okay got a pic of the map
We reserved a kabin at the KOA 1 mile from Slackin's place 50.00 a night.
Sorta camping except with heat/ac. My wife Leesa loves to camp, but insists on a shower.....
Tell me more about the KOA cabin. Price seems right. More info would be helpful.
Thanks,
Mack
Sounds like we have multiple points along rt 15 where we can meet to "increase" the caravan. Should I start a separate post?
Welby, I'm familiar with where 15 crosses 66, was just there last weekend with my twin sons for a cub scouting weekend.
We can talk caravans, KOA camping, whatever it takes to keep us at the top/.././.
ECC shirt sales are now active. Buy early, buy often.

Zach
Zach, Not sure yet what my departure time from Frederick will be .. It's just over an hour from me to the Rte 66 & 15 location that Welby mentioned. And Leesburg is barely 30 minutes before that. It's about 3 hours from Frederick to Charlottesville.. with Leesburg, Haymarket (rt66 & 15), Warrenton, and Culpepper as 'big' cities to pass through, i.e. meeting points??
Let's be sure to coordinate, I'll be glad to caravan with you for safety.
Is anybody coming up from the south besides me?
-Mike
I will be coming across from the Richmond area.
If you 2 want to meet up near Richmond let me know. Otherwise I'm going to take the back roads to 64. From my house that would be 7-11 to 522 to 64, not real sure what the exit number is but it puts meon 64 abut 50 miles out of C'ville
That's the Gum Spring exit. There's a Dairy Queen at that exit.
-Mike
Yup, the Dairy Queen exit, that's what I call it we can meet there if you guys want to come that way
Sounds good to me. Just have to name the time. I'll be coming from my father's house in the west end, so I'll just jump on 64 and can be there pretty much any time.
-Mike
Name the time and place and we can meet up
Bump'n this event page, and asking what time the festivities are to start on Saturday... :
ECC is One Month Away Today!
Missing this get-together would be...
wait for it...
retarded.
2) Would people be willing to put a little money in the till for the party? Not much - like $5 or $10 to help the planners offset the costs?
i am in for $10 - to what paypal ?????
jim kelly - aka: jim kelly - aka: !@#$ %^&*
btw - this is how i remember ecc2007 : )
Attached image(s)
yea, donation and bring a dish/drink/paper products
(but i don't remember the Hawaiian Tropic backwards on the bikini tops ... and i tried to get REALLY close to read them!)
But I told her if she was going to sit on my lap for the picture, she'd better bring the gaitors, cause my wife will think sump'ns going on!
Just tell me where to send, and I'll get it fowarded. Thanks guys!
UPDATE:
we got about 3" of rain in the last 48 hours. things are green again!
hopefully we can keep this up for another month so we can have a nice bonfire!
I am pretty sure things are going to be wet for the next week or so at least, due to tropical storms tracking up the coast.
Zach
OMG - You guys had Beyonce there?
And - I've offered money too but have been told just to bring money for raffles. I'll bring food, wine, other stuff and money for raffles or contribute to the cause. Whatever is needed.
I'll bring money, guns and lawyers ....... oh wait, that's another gathering.
Then I'll bring money and a dish .. errr... I mean food and a friend from work who's interested in Porsches ...... she's just a co-worker and yes, she and the wife know each other!
Jim - awesome photoshop! when I saw it!
Off pg 2
Jackstand IPA, in the secondary, absorbing some dry hop goodness.
Woot!
Zach
three questions
Is there a consensus on what hotel people are going to stay at?
What day are people planning on arriving? Friday night or Saturday morning?
Anyone want to meet in the DC area to convoy down?
Nick
Nick, look through pg 12 or 11, there's a link to a thread on convoy's to ECC. One stop will be Rt 66 and Rt 15 - Haymarket VA. see you there or earlier.
how can i bump this to page 5 ??
Still page three for me...
Zach
If you go into Options -> Board Settings, you can select how many posts appear on each page. I set mine to 100 (the maximum number allowed).
Looks like I might be THAT guy this year. Time crunch on concrete work for my shed and garage mud-room will take a priority this year over the cookout
This will be my first year missing one, but it will be for the cause of making space so my car will be even better at next years event.
Sorry I have to back-out but concrete work rarely waits for anyone.
See you all hopefully before next years event!!! Maybe even have some of the locals over to see the house/garage improvements.
Good morning everyone! Have some bacon.
OM NOM NOM NOM
!!!!!! BACON !!!!!! Vile flesh of the cloven hoof, !!!! Beer!!!! amber
liquid, is the breakfast of the Gods!!!!!!! As it is written so shall it be!!

Dave
Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.
wanted to bump this but also am pondering a question. isn't this the 6th annual ECC? working backwards
2008->Charlottesville, coming up
2007->Frederick MD at plas76targa
2006->Fairfax Station VA at Babydolls
2005->can't remember sorry
2004->PA at Kerry Herrs
2003->Richmond VA at Kerry Herrs
or is it the 5th annual ECC?
edit: after doing a search, i found posts that had the 2003 Richmond Mid Atlantic Mid Engined Ramble.
Gotta be the 5th. I went to Kerry's in Kennett Square PA and every one since.
Found a thread 2005 in PA at Kerrys
05 was in Kennet Square at Kerry's and was the 1st I attended. I managed to attend everyone since
2003 in Richmond, VA at va914's house
2004 none found don't think one happened that year.
GRASS IS GREEN!
thanks to TS Hanna, the bon fire looks like a go!
Jim - good question. I was just swagging on my start time from Frederick of 11 AM
Good Host Of ECC08, loyal subjects want to know when you would welcome our arrival??
My bag will likely have Scotch in it
I am thinking of heading to a closer destination the Fri night before. I have a test that AM and them I am free. Maybe I'll hit Zachs, Matts, Scottys....its good to have friends
Mike, or anyone else further north, ya can stay at my place Friday night. Just let me know so I can put more chlorine in the pool
Hi Root
UPDATE:
Ive secured a 30'x30' tent to be erected the weekend of the party.
so we no longer need to worry about getting wet if it rains. so NO excuses.
I'll also be renting some tables to eat on for inside the tent.
keep a record of expenses so we can share the cost. you're doing enough hosting the event, you don't need to have to pay too.
oh... yea....
good point - rain - we should all bring a car cover.
i just installed 944 seat belts in my rootrod : ) big improvement : ))
Attached image(s)
Pa....lease mount those friggin' gauges between the seats dude..... velcro them or ductape them anything!
R U hookin' up with us somewhere in VA on the way to ECC?
How about coming over Friday night!
We can get up early Saturday and do a 914-V8 shakedown!
so far - the plan is for me to pick up atomix8 in annapolis and then meet you guys in VA. i am watching for time and place for the VA contingent gathering spot. 3hrs from me to NoVa with one stop in between - i better make sure atomix8 is up for an overnight stay - cause - i ain't missing out on the tunes this year. jim
guages - ok ok - i'l try to bolt them in somehow : )
oh yeah - got me some creature comfort for the trip - new brake and clutch peddle pads - luxury : ))

Hopefully, steering pump started growling last weekend, haven't had time to check it further for a major/minor leak, still gotta put some amount of stereo in it too
update:
after playing phone tag for some time, finally got the grub all figured out.
we're having some good-'ol pork BBQ, beans, slaw, and chicken from Jinx's Pit Stop BBQ here in charlottesville.
Ive been to many parties over the years with him catering and it's always a hit.
here are some more recent national accolades (you may recognize the sources):
"...do not miss Jinx's Barbecue, which offers hickory smoked barbecue and some seriously down-home atmosphere that ranks with some of the country's best."
- Wall Street Journal
“this juicy ’sammich’ on Texas toast will transport your mouth to the Mississippi Delta.”
- 2008 Maxim Food Awards
mmmmmm.... bbq.
BBQ, my favorite!

If the 944 won't make it I can definitely bring some sort of set. If I bring the 944....well I'm not real sure anything will fit in it
Take off every rib for great justice.
I have this fever, and the only prescription to sooth it is :
MORE COW BELL!!!!!!!!!!
Dave
I move to make this a:
Politics Free Weekend?
I haven't been on the board for awhile due to the rantings in the Sandbox. (I know, don't go there if you don't like it.) It would be great to meet nice people that share a common interest and have a good time. That's hard to do when you know they despise everything you believe in. It would also be nice to get out of the political trenches and truly relax. Do I hear a second for the motion?
Oh, and are we going unplugged or full out electric? I have both.
i was gonna choose Beyonce as my VP - but I guess - me and Z - can find her another position she'll enjoy - cabinet position of course : )
Dr Evil need no running mate! EVIL 08!!!
It didnt need to be said as far as I am concerned. I will be there to hang uot and not divide from ya'll
Electric and unplugged. Why limit yourself.
How about "blatant theft of intellectual property from dead people" then?
No Skynard, Scotty says so
At this point, we will be lucky to have anything together. None of us has practiced together.....ya'll will just need to be drunker
Last night I was playing Tool, NIN, Drive (only song I like by incubus), Everlong by the foo fighters, some radiohead, I will survive (cake version)....and some others I cant remember.
If Scotty drives his 944 I foresee no drums as I dont know if he will try to fit them
I like beer Cuz it's good
I drink beer because I should
if there is a song to sing
I sing it and beer you bring
I drink beer when I am sad
Cuz the beer it make me glad
now there's nothing left to say
so lets go drink beer
BEER IS GOOD
BEER IS GOOD
BEER IS GOOD
...and stuff
BEER IS GOOD
BEER IS GOOD
BEER IS GOOD
...lets go drink some
BEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR
When it's warm it tastes real crappy
but cold beer will make me happy
When I throw up on the floor
I can go and drink some more
they say beer will make me dunb
it are no good with pizza
now that we have drunk some beer
lets go drive a car
can't we just bring a projector and we can all play drunk ass rock band til the wee hours of the morning?
You know you love some drunk rock band.
i'm out
yes - i can bring Beyonce --------------- i got her on C D
that ain't COUCH AND DINNING ROOM TABLE unfortunantely

Very near by.
Like, tent by my car near by.
Slack'n has allowed and encouraged camping on his property.
Zach
Great - I'm in!

Is there a hotel nearby?
ROLL CALL
Who's coming, where ya staying ?? Mike, Welby have you guys talked about meeting up ?
Me, in a tent
Ya, name the time so I can start to plan around it. I have just found out the Heidi will be able to make it as well so it will be me, Noel and her.
Hey, I have IBS, too! Are you being treated? I have some suggestions....none of which involves bunking in my tent. Besides, I will likely have no room since Noel and Heidi will be in there as well.
I'm in (as long as Jim Kelly's driving!) -->>
Although I suppose I could sleep under my car in it's current state... I'll be doing a sleeping bag wherever it's not raining!
Are we going to do a mini swap meet this year? I would like to know if there is any interest because I am going by my Mom's this w/e where the parts stash is and wondering if I should bring anything back.

bump for an awesome weather forecast!
I got the chainsaw out yesterday to get us some fire-wood.
it's gorgeous down here in Charlotte this weekend. Hope it sticks through to next weekend.
Scotty, how are you gonna fit the drums in the 944? (you bastard?)
I can come down a meet at your house to put some in the back of the VUE, maybe. No excuses!
drums? need drums?
could bring them in the escape....
+ my family and I for camping on site. Get to try out the new tent.
I'm bringing the hoard, but we're doing the 911 crowd thang and staying in a hotel close by.
I hope to bring the 914, IF I get the Fuel Pump changed on it in time.
I may have to start down late as the boys have a soccer match, but I'll meet whoever wants to START a caravan in Frederick at 10 am - as posted elsewhere.
Decisions!
regardless, see you all Saturday. Coo, Coo, I love it when a plan comes together!
Matt, I would still like to come down the Fri night before to cut my travel time and to see if I can fix your car. I havent had a chance to scrounge for a fuel pump yet. I would have Heidi and Noel with me, if thats OK. I'll get them to bring suits for the pool
I should have an extra fuel pump if you want to come get it...

So, let me get this straight.....I'm driving a 914, 350 miles... and you're wondering if the 944 will make it 25 have you put the GT flairs on it yet?

Test drove the Frijolito to PA last saturday and well, it ran! Would like to caravan down with the northern group. Hey Matt & Dr E, wanna meet in G'burg or give me a call when you all hit the road. I can wait on 270 or let me know your route plans. Hey Rick L, any t-shirts avail ?
Matt email or call me --- ekatz2@verizon.net 202-262-1344

Evan, you have a PM..
we're taking 340/15 West to 15 south.. I suggest you take White's Ferry over to VA, and wait for us near Luckette's.
New snag on the tunes, Scotty has resolved to taking his 944 so he has no room for his drums. Is there anyone that can swing by and pick them up and then drop them off afterward?
If no one can pick them up and drop them off, we have no drums
They are in Moseley, VA
Hey Scotty,
I'd come down Friday and throw your drums in either the Prius or the Scoob, but Erin reminded me that I have to be home friday night to listen to the house contractor. I'll see if I can get the go ahead to come down later Fri night if that is cool with you - but no promises.
Can anyone else closer step up?
Zach
ECC carb help?
if I bought my carbs and linkage to the ECC, along with my syncrometer, would someone there be able to bolt them to thier engine and help me get them balanced? Webber 44s are what I have. I am having difficulties getting them in order.
Zach
update:
due to the tent company's scheduling... the tent is going up right now.
I'll try to get pix when they're done putting it up.

Pissed Off Dave
I have it on good authority that there is a Harris Teeter store at the intersection of rt 15 and 29 that is easily seen/can't miss from either road, 15 or 29. that should have a big enough parking lot to gather the troops. How about meeting there? 11?
we can syncronize our walkie talkies from there then.
speed - can we all stay at no more than 5 over the speed limit and in single file - for photo and video ops. i plan to use my co polit to get some photos of us on the road - action photos - birds welcomed : ) - pickin nose not : )
OK - No one is saying it... Chance of precip only 40% on Saturday so maybe it will rain early and then be gone, Sunday looks gorgeous!http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/weekend/USVA0143?from=36hr_topnav_business
I'll be at the Harris Teeter at 11:00 on Saturday.
Deleted be cause post was extraneous info and just me rambling.
After much research on the painfully slow internet here at work during lunch time...
The store is actually a Bloom Grocery store. Bloom is Food Lion's upscale store.
Here's store website with map:
http://www.shopbloom.com/YourBloom/storeDetail.aspx?id=2718
The address is the same:
15201 Washington St, Haymarket, VA
See everyone there at 11 am on Saturday.
Now let's talk phone trees...
(DAMN - I thought I was posting in the ECC caravans thread)
careful, you're at the intersection of 15 and 55 near 66 in Haymarket. We want further on down the road to the intersection of 15 and 29. if you're on the Bloom link, zoom out and go south on 15 until the intersection of 15 and 29.
You know what Jim, you're right (I edited my previous post) but I'm sticking to my suggestion. It's right off 66 for the NoVa and beltway contingent. It's right off rt 15 for the Frederick and points North contingent. Grocery stores have big parking lots, bathrooms and food. There might be 20 vehicles. I'm sticking with this suggestion. I don't see anything at the corner of 29 and 15. This spot is probably not two miles from there. No one has to back track. What do you think?
And there's a Sheetz right next to it in the same plaza parking lot!
i'm OK with any meeting place that everybody knows about. to get to 15 and 29, my actual route would be 66W (slight detour on 50W to get root), get back on 66W then past the gainesville exit (to avoid traffic in that area, traffic lights, etc) to the rt 15 exit, then south on 15 to 15 and 29. I can just as easily go N on 15 to Blooms and Sheetz.
executive decision time?
15/29

15/29 = .51724...?
roll call......sean and i will be there.
..... my wipers hardly work! ....and my roof leaks! ... and my car rusts out at the thought of water so i don't wash it..... but my tires have alot of tread...
Jim, I think you've described most of our cars coming out to this event. I'll add the fogged up windows to list as well. This will be my first roadtrip out into the rain in a 914 in about 23 years. Somehow I don't expect it to improve except for the Rainex inside and out. If my electronics stay dry enough, I'll be happy.
Sooo, I spoke with the king of boom, Scotty B and we have figured out some things for the drums. Since I will be staying at Matt's house in Frederick, MD on Fri night I will have 2 hours shaved off of my trip. As such, MapQuest says I can make it to Scotty's and then to the site in a little over 4 hours which is doable.
HOWEVER, if one of you mooks lives closer (Welby, others) speak up so we can save some Co2. I will get the damn drums if no one else can. Zach offered as well, but I am skeptical that it would be a good idea for him.
I dont know when I will leave Matt's, nor where I will meet up if at all to caravan. I will be driving the VUE so its not like I will be missed from the pics.
So, anyone willing to take a small detour to Moselsy, VA to get the drums so we can have some fun?
I will have my Aztek and camping gear and the family. How much are we talking about?
Not sure how to explain it. I will have several guitars and a largish amp. You can always dump some of your camping gear into Scotty's 944. I will be doing that if I pick his stuff up. If you can PM him and see if it is feasible that would be AWESOME! I bet it will work if you do the swap of cargo.
THE Frederick caravan will start at 10:00 am sharp. Who's coming here first? I haven't heard From anyone yet. You can come to my house before 10 or meet us at the Beckley's Country store - at the Willow Road exit on Rt 15 south.
We'll leave Frederick and stay on 15 south all the way to the 15/29 intersection.
Jim, I'll pm my phone number to you.
And HOORAY, I repaced the fuel pump tonight and the car started. I'll drop it off the blocks tomorrow and test drive it. Cross yer fingers!
Dude, you fixed your own car!? Glory hallelujah!
I will have to leave at 8am if I am to keep up with the group after leaving Scotty's. Still waiting to see if someone closer will step up to the plate. If I leave at 8, I will bet Heidi and Noel will need a ride at 10 since they will not be waking up (narcoleptics)
where is the NoVa contigent meeting at ?????????????????????????????
and at what time ??????????????????????????????????????????????????
btw - chance of precip has dropped from yesterday 70% to 50% today.
Did you miss Jason's Post? It's a couple of posts before yours dude!
Here it is again!
Just to make this clear....
I'm proposing we meet at a big grocery store parking lot with a gas station at the junction of two major roads where everyone coming from the North and East will have to go past. THERE IS NO BACKTRACKING. You don't have to get off 66 and go North and then go back South. You just get off 66 and go South and Bloom is right there off 15. There is no North to Blooms and Sheetz.
If everyone is looking at maps and thinking they are going to get off 66 at rt29 and come down 29 to the meeting place think again. Read type47's post up above. type47, root and I live really close to the meeting place, you don't want to get off 66 at 29 and take 29 down to the meeting place. There's million lights and busy traffic through Gainsville. You want to keep going on 66 and get off on rt15 and go south whatever meeting place we choose.
Have I convinced anyone yet? Or does everyone still want to meet two miles further South down route 15 in the middle of nowhere where there is nothing and no place to park but on the side of busy rt 29 so we can have 18 wheelers drive by and kick up rocks on our cars? (I just had a truck throw a rock up and put a nice size chip in my bumper on the DC beltway last week)
See nothing here
Mike Spraggi (sp?) - see you a Beckley's just before 10 - or come a bit early to my place if you want. I'm only a mile and half west of there. Willow to Willowbrooke (left), to Opposumtown (right), half mile to Meadowbrooke (left), bear right, .. you'll see the 914 or I'll hear you (check picture on first post).
Dr Evil - I can take either Noel or Heidi with me, if some one (Mike S, above?) can take the other.
Zach - are you planning on coming to Frederick first? You bringing any body witchu?
Is this correct now for VA 914'S
We meet at 11AM.... on 15 South, just south of Rt66, on the right at BLOOM's.
I just wanted to say that this is a rain-or-shine event.
we have a big tent here in case of rain.
they are calling for 50% of "light rain showers" throughout the day, which isn't bad.
we have tables and chairs and plenty of room for "the band".
be there or be square!
works for me. i'll probably be following root as he has a 1.7 and i have a measly 1.8 really looking forward to this. we can all do a Woodstock 1969 cheer; NO RAIN, NO RAIN! maybe Jimi will part the clouds for us from up in heaven.
Matt, I will have a co-worker coming with me, so no available seat. PM me your address. Perhaps I can meet you at your house. My co-workier lives off of Opposumtown Pike. near Willowbrooke (next to the Catholic Church/scool). Mike Spraggins
If I dont get confirmation of someone else going to Scotty's, I will be doing it and Zach may need to pick up the ladies if they dont want to get up early.
Must have drums.
update:
beer is here.
beer fridge in workshop is full (and the house fridge too)
I ended up going with bottles over a keg. mainly for a better selection to offer.
Is there power to the tent? I have a 100' extension cord if need be.
Anybody else dealing with a gas shortage? None of the stations here in Charlotte seem to have fuel. People are lined up all over the place and fighting each other to fill up their gas cans.
-Mike
NC also had the $5 gas recently, didnt they? What is up with your state, man?
Gas here is $3.45-50 and plentiful
it started the thursday before Ike hit houston. Everybody and their brother wigged out and made a run on the stations because there was a rumor going around that gas was going to jump to $5/gal. It was at about $3.60 where I live just across the border in South Carolina. Well everybody cleaned out the stations and sure enough the price shot up through the roof. Ever since then, the stations have been struggling to keep up with everybody. Self fulfilling prophecy.
Last night everybody started another run on the pumps and this morning was a mad house of everybody trying to get every last drop they could. All the stations around me are out of gas.
I hear that Atlanta is out of gas and that Nashville had a run on the pumps due to nothing but rumored shortage. When everybody decided they need it all of a sudden, they bring the gas cans too.
-Mike
^^^^
Get you ass to mars.
Err. Virginia.
Hell at $5 a gallon, I'd be happy to bring down a jerry can for ya!
Zach
I can bring $25 worth.
By the way, where is the gathering going to be held in Charlottesville? I know it's at Slackin' at work's farm .. but I don't know where that is. Is it buried somewhere in the thread?
1st post pg 1

Duhhhhh ....... brain fart.
and "I know the area well.."

Check picture on 1st post, recognize the house?
...ah, ok ya can't see the whole house..
see you Saturday!
BRING IT ON KIDS!
Man I wish I had time (and freeedom from responsibility) to jump in the car right now!!
Next year, (maybe)...
Have a great time!
I so wish either the truck or the 914 was functioning right now.
Gah. I *REALLY* want to drive one of my toys tomorrow. *REALLY REALLY*
Zach
Guys, I hate to do it, but I'm going to have to bail on this weekend. Just too many things seem to be stacked against me in the deck... gas is scarce in CLT, it's raining like a mojo all day today, and I just found a window leak on the side of the house.....the list goes on.
I hope you guys have a great time and that the weather clears out early in the morning for you on Saturday. Enjoy some tunes and some outstanding brew.
Somebody please take lots of pictures.
I'll be looking forward to ECC 2009.
Regards,
Mike
update:
tables are here.
starting to look like a PARTAY!
I hope it's not just me, mike, and zach.
My small clan and I will be there late in to the night possibly, but had to nix the camping idea due to the weather. Can't afford any unessecary Dr bills right now.
Right on Welby. Scott is going to try to fit the bass drum in his car. If not, I will be leaving early Sat as my shit is in my car and I aint bringing it for nuthin
I started already! I have to go try and see how much camping geer I can fit in my car now. I bet my tent doesn't fit.
Anyone else coming up 64 through the Richmond area, Welby and I will be meeting up at the Gum Springs exit at 10:30-ish. If you want to join make yourself known NOW !!!
We made it! The rain wasn't as bad as I expected today, and arrived w/o incident.
Leesa and I did Monticello today, and will explore Skyline drive early a.m.
We will sleep dry tonight!
These are some beautiful and fun roads, so bring the TEENERS!

my cars 914 v8 with no door windows - not good choice for rain
my other car 914 t4 - starting problems - i was gonna wire a switch from the HOT on the starter to the solenoid - but it was so rusted - it snapped - i installed a new mini starter but once done found out it does not engage the fffing flywheel - wheel - 914 t4 is a not go unless i drive it there without a starter i could have swore i had a oem starter laying around
well - the weather in the AM is gonna make me choose between 914v8 and subaru impreza.
jim
the HOT stud on my oem starter busted - so i installed the brand new mini starter i had laying around - it spun but did not engage flywheel at all. so i then wired it directly to hot using a momentary switch - same thing happened.
40% chance of precip - i am leaning subaru.
Got boomers here. I'm only 1.5 hrs away form C'ville. Looks like we might get wet tomorrow guys Enough and I won't care
I'm going for it! I'm more scared that my car won't make it there and back than I am of the rain and I live relatively close!
I bet I bring the most eclectic music for my car. Not to start the music debate over agian or anything. I'm actually bringing CDs not an mp3 player.
I'm in. Wife and mother (OUTLAW) think I am crazy... Only as crazy as all of you. Hey Jim, 40% chance of rain and 60% chance no rain. Beer is wet anyway. Are a lot of us planning to meet at Blooms on rt 15 & 55 ? 11:00AM right. Plastarga, I tried to email & PM but since I changed emails on the site I was blocked. See ya satuday
Frijolito Evan
I'm fuch'd. I have to bail out tomorrow.
I have the shirts and a couple goodies for the raffle.
I need someone to hand these items off to.
If need be, I can make it out to Matt's house.
Is anyone coming out 70 past Ellicott City?
I have to be in a promotional exam at 0830. I'll probably be out by 930 but no way could I get to Matt's by 1000.
Crash lives about 3 mins from where I'm going to be, I've hit him up and Zymurgist. We'll see what goes.
Sorry, I can't help. Babydoll won't be attending due to a family emergency. Therefore, I'm making it a day trip from Hagerstown. I can get to Charlottesville directly via I-81 and I-64, and given the weather prediction I'll be driving the Toyota.
I just now saw your post! Went out to the garage and found a starter for you.
I'll bring it tomorrow.
Just finished 2 clutch alignment tools to raffle off at ECC tomorrow!
last minute check and a weather SUCKS!
Weather was terrible around 6:30-7:30 here in Baltimore/Annapolis, but it has moved through and the clouds are breaking... It looks like we might be okay after the morning! Good day to own a garage though :-/
The sun is shining in Hagerstown, Md. and the roads are drying up.
weather.com shows a 50 percent chance of rain for Charlottesville.
intellicast.com has a radar loop that shows storms moving up the Chesapeake, and also over the Blue Ridge, moving north. That is to say, to the west and the far east of Charlottesville.
Wooooo hoooooo leaving in 40 minutes! I'll leave with my top off and throw caution to the wind!
Sun's out in Fairfax!
I'm headed out to gas up then boogie on down to Cavalier Country as soon as the NoVA boys arrive!
sun broke when I was setting up this morning. closed back in though.
It won't be 80 and sunny, but I think it should workout.
it's a little foggy around here due to the elevation...
Im really pissed I won't be able to cut my field again before everyone gets here.
it's a little long, but should be fine.
Leaving now!
shirts are on the way down...dropped them off with the guys at 10:00..
bummer I can't make it...have a beer for me...
I'm back home now. Thanks for hosting the party, slackin'. The BBQ was awesome... you could smell the hickory smoke before the aluminum foil came off the containers. And the tent was an absolutely necessary part of the day... the rain came down in buckets at times, but it was still a lot of fun.
My pics are a total loss. I don't know what happened. I pressed one button and deleted them all. I've tried two recovery programs and they can't find anything. Sucks! I had some very cool shots of the cars at dusk with the mountains in the background. I had some cool night time shots of everyone there. Bummer!
Dear Mr. and Mrs. C Slacking
Thank you both for making ECC2008 - a truly memorable day and a half : )

Music, Barbecue never is bad. Oh well ,, I will make it next yr. if by Ambulance
and in a drug induced fog. Dave
Chris, Thanks for your hospitality and letting us visit your beautiful country home.
As always we had a great time!
Sorry we got back so late this morning with the bagels. We got up a bit late 'cause Susan was a bit hungover. Then drove all over Charlottesville trying to find mega coffee and bagels for the overnight campers to no avail! When we finally got back to Chris's with bagels everyone had left for home.
AWESOME trip!
well, it's past 5 and I think im finally feeling better after sleeping and watching movies all day.
I want to take this time to apologize for being a "little" tipsy last night. I had a bit too much fun. Im starting to remember more and more of my evening. I now remember a few more falls and a lot more slurred conversations. I was a little over-the-top. What's that saying about first impression?? I guess every party has "that guy".
it was the CIDER!
anyway, thanks again for everyone who braved the rain. I can't wait to see some more pictures.
hope everyone made it home safe! it was good to meet everyone!
Chris you hosted a great ECC the BBQ was great the tent a godsend and you were just one of group. At least your a happy drunk,.
if you werent there then you missed a great time. sean and i were the first to arrive. the host chris is one of your typical teener owners. he has one of the nicest pieces of property i have seen. what a great place to have a bQ. it was a shock to see 9 teeners venture out in the rain. chris had a huge tent that was perfect for our purpose. food and drink was plentiful. when the band played i knew it was time to go....lol not really. we did the 9.5 hrs straight back to connecticut. it was nice to meet the NEW people and to see all our old friends. my only bitch is that due to the rain we did not get a group shot. maybe next year.... ray
Simply put, awesome time despite the weather and Chris thanks for claiming the title of " that guy " because I thought I was " that guy " Hope the yard turns out o.k.
It was great to meet everyone, and I can't thank Chris and the Mrs. enough for offering up their place to us!
Root, sounds like you'll be eating bagels all week...everybody was up by 8am!
And come on, there were about 6 of "that guy"!
And everyone who drove their 914 is a whole lot braver than I am in the rain. It was blinding in the Subaru!
Chris, you were in no way inappropriate. You were a fun drunk and you didnt give me (or Scotty, or insert name here) any shit for puking all over your lawn
You have a wonderful estate, were an excellent and kind host, and should be proud of what you achieved
It was great to see that gang again and to meet some new folks. I am sooo beat. More later when I have time to rest.
Chris, thanks for hosting the BBQ this year. I remember driving to Charlottesville and seeing some teeners on your beautiful farm ...... oh yeah, I remember drinking wine, lots of wine and eating BBQ .... I think I met you and a bunch of other great people.. then I kinda draw a blank . Oh yeah, it was dark, I was slurring very well, laying on my car cover behind my car, flashlights in my face .... oh god ... it's coming back to me ! GREAT, GREAT P-A-R-T-Y!! Thanks again!!
Well, the board crashed before I could post this, so I am saving the post and will put it up tomorrow at work. I'm too tired to wait for the board to come back up.
Original post:
Okay, so here is it, 8:30 pm Sunday, and I feel like I am about to fall off my feet. That was a long drive home... And I WISH I had stayed for some bagels! I stopped to get *something* *anything* in my stomach and the result was nearly disaster. Left the farm at 10, got home at 2:30. I needed a nap, my son wanted to play. Nap never happened.
Here are some of the pics I took. Not too many pictures this year due to the rain.
Shortly after getting there. It had just finished POURING. I darted out between rain bands to get a few pics.
So, those three pics were right after getting there. Then there was this long period where stuff happened and I forgot I had a camera. Actually, I was playing with my new HD video camera, and watching the movie with Erin tonight I kept thinking "I don't remember that part... that part is a bit fuzzy..."
Sunday morning, after the fog started to burn off, we had this:
Our tent city (if you look close at the door to the red and black tent, you will see authentic Dr Evil vomit - watch your step!):
They did not rust away over night!
Chris' car reflected in Matt's bling'n hub cap:
Now, when I can figure out hoe to get video from my camera copied to my computer for editing, I'll put together the vid the Heidi and I shot.
The party was awesome. Not as many people or cars, due to the weather. I am guessing we had about 30 or so people there. The site was amazing. Chris is a funny drunk. It was great to see everyone one again.
I guess its time to start planning for next year...
Zach
I should have been the first to post as I was the first to get home.
But anyway, I made it safe. Glad to hear everyone else did.
Chris, there is always atleast one victim of my brew.
:-)
Thanks for having us.
The party tent with the cars and campers in the background.
Chris and his beautiful home. Definitely NOT slackin' in this shot.
The Evil one rippin' off some devilish riffs.
The camping area with a really wet stack of wood for the bonfire.
(Special thanks go to Zack for getting the fire started.)
hole smokes. Im still standing... and able to walk. that MUST have been early.
This would have been a perfect shot if I had pointed the camera a little more to the right and Chris' neighbors weren't standing there. Sorry Gina.
Looks like it was a fun time, hopefully the weather wasn't all bad.
Shame I had to miss an ECC, hopefully missing this one will only make my car better for 2009!
Zach, don't your feet hurt too? You and Slackin' were walking through coals at one point?
My thanks to the Slackin's too. Great venue, great people and fun time. Nice to hear from MikeSpraggi, we were concerned about you getting home!
Chris,
Excellent event! Your place and hospitality is first class. The tent was a BRILLIANT idea. It was good to meet a few more new faces. Thanks again.
One of the few pics I snapped w/ my cellphone (I forgot my cameras):
SCOTTY! This was a pensive moment where he may have realized he exceeded his alcohol limit Right before we poured him into his tent.
Scotty, I will always bring you water, man
I think all the memories that are going to come back, have.
I can officially say I only remember 47% of the evening.
Can't wait for another one, so I can actually meet you people and remember it.
I think zach started off the strongest with his dislexic raffle ticket reading, but
scotty and I quickly took the lead.
I also wanted to thank the good Dr. and zach (and others I cant remember
who ) who donated to the raffle. quite generous.
the tent finally came down this morning. which is good because I still felt
queazy every time I looked out the window and saw it.
As the days wear on, images from this weekend's event flash across my mind. I thought I was the only one that had an out of body experience, I mean I kept it all inside, but there was a point where all I could do was crawl to the back of my car and ball up on my car cover, thinking "this can't be real!". Now it sounds like we were all just guinea pigs unknowingly taking part in some sick secret government experiment .......... so when can we do it again, huh??!!
Sounds like I missed a good time..... we're just now getting gas in Charlotte.
-Mike

I was so bummed since the party because I didn't get to hang out or even see the fire... I love fires. but then, apparently I did:
once again I have idea what happened.
I think someone slipped me a roofy.
You and I were trying to light it for a while with your MAP torch
not to complain - but i think the band needs to select about 30-40 songs - get music sheets - make copies and pass around - and practice them - for ecc2009

We were VERY uncoordinated......its not like we dont live near each other, or have jobs, or are trying to become physicians, or.....
If Scotty brought drums it would have worked because I would have been the only one with a loud enough amp
I think I remember at least 2 songs....one short Pink Floyd song, and one 3 hour Grateful Dead song... ;-) Next year it'll all be better when it's dry, there are drums, the guitars are dry, it will be good.
Zach, in the midst of all the festivities, you didn't forget the "chalk outline" paint job on the Kaiser did you?
Hahah, I didn't think you were that far gone.
You were talking Kaiser paint jobs, and somehow from our shared Baltimore driving experiences we agree upon:
Flat black paint, and a chalk outline on the hood.
Something like: http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/dbu0063l.jpg
Sure beats camo =D
So it sounds like the shirts got passed around a bit. Anybody have an idea who has my shirt? XXL with Mike on the front. If somebody could PM me, would appreciate it.
-Mike
the shirts came out great!
even the wife thinks they're cool.
can someone tell me how I got mud on the back of mine. I can just imagine.
Just back in town and have a decent connection again, so I just wanted to throw out a thanks to everyone like Chris and Zach for stepping up and creating a fun get together! Leesa and I had a GREAT time and she finally got her road trip in a 914 that didn't leave her on the side of the road. (where's the adventure in that?)
Looking foward to next year!
I think I am still recovering or having flash backs, so not sure if I said thanks to Host Fun Drunk Chris and Zach. Great cookout, good food, awesome beer, company present? Well everyone was great to see again and meet new. Think I hit a deer carcass on the way back & with a THUNK threw out the alignment. Not sure.
