914World.com _ 914World Garage _ A couple of exhaust questions

Posted by: HeavyHeavy Mar 7 2008, 10:50 PM

I have a 1970 914 - 4 that came with a 1.7 liter. The engine
has been rebuilt with bigger cylinders, so now it displaces
2.0. I need a new exhaust.

Has anyone used the kit from AA with the headers and
supertrapp muffler?

How is it?

Has anyone used the Tangerine header combo with heat
exchangers?

What does that go for?

I appreciate any and all opinions

Thanks

i have the 1.7 to the 2.0 type 4 too

for mine, i did the 2.0 heat exchangers (sound better for any of the type 4 motors, if you want the heater)

and since i had a monza before, and the valence pan cut out for the monza, i did the 2.0 monza, and it actually sounds really good

(not quite the direction you were probably thinking of, but def, if you put on some stock heat exchangers, get some 2 litres)

good luck in the search for the perfect combo

Go with Triad. Yes, I do pitch for Dave every chance I get, but I just love his products.

I should say that I'd like the exhaust to be as quiet as it
can be, but of course, I want the headers for more HP. If I
have to trade one for the other, I'll take the horsepower.

What do they get for the triad setup?

i will guess that you will see 5hp or so max.

what horsepower do you think you pumping out now - 120??

From everything I have heard and noticed the Triad setup allows great flow for maximum hp.... as long as you are running carbs. The exhaust system isn't too abnoxious, and the tone it gives off makes it sound very pleasing. You could get the whole system for under 1k.

I won't kid myself. I don't have a fast car and the things
I can afford to do right now are not going to make it much
faster. I probably wouldn't even be thinking about an
exhaust system if mine wasn't damaged. But now here's my
chance to make a change that I can really be happy with.

Albuquerque doesn't really get extreme weather, but it does
get colder than I want to be without some sort of heat in my
car - probably. Then again if I only did things because
they are sensible, I probably wouldn't have a 914 in the
first place.

I actually am running carbs (baby webers), which will soon
be replaced with some larger ones as well.

Any pics of a car with the triad setup on it?

Well, I have a six so it really doesn't count for you, but here is the link to Daves site. There is a picture there.
