saw these, does anyone know their significance? they are on each case half, im guessing it's possibly a machining measurement...? both sides read 038

i don't know if they are measurements but i believe they have something to do with matching the halves like if they are machined to match, then the numbers ID the case halves as a pair. there are numbers on connecting rods and caps too.

Matching set?
I seem to remember similar numbers on the 356 engine cases that designated a machine matched set.

When the cases are machined, the numbers are stamped into them to denote matching parts. That's it, no mystery, no collusion, .... same thing they do to rods and rod ends, etc that need to be matched up.
