914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Need some side shift linkage adjustment help.

Posted by: KaptKaos Mar 16 2008, 04:35 PM

I have a 73 with a side-shift. I replaced the bushings about 2 years ago, so they are fairly new.

I was having a hard time getting into first, so I figured I'd do a quick adjustment today.

First is easy, second is now too far over and fourth can't be found.

I put the car in second, go into the cabin and loosen the bolt on the shifter and move the shift level to about where 2nd should be.

Last time, I used this technique and all was good. Now, I can't get to 4th or 5th. I "think" i need to rotate the shaft a little, but I am not certain.

What make sthis all worse is that I need the car for work tomorrow. UGH!!

First rule of troubleshooting: When presented with facts that are unreliable, examine the basics.

I.e the damn cone set screw on the transmission side was loose.
