914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Car Transporter?

I'm very close to purchasing a 914 that is currently in Seattle. I'm in Arizona. Because my time is limited to a weekend, my wife is very nervous about the idea of my son & I driving from Seattle to Phoenix with a car that we don't actually know (Murphy comes to mind).

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with a auto hauling company that you are willing to recommend. I picked 3 out of the yellow pages that had web sites and asked for bids. They all came in at about $700 for Seattle to Phoenix, but it's hard to tell from a web site whether one should actually trust their classic car to them.

Any thoughts or recommendations will be most appreciated!

Seattle to AZ sounds like a GREAT drive to me. Please consider it. Scenic, and 914 club members all along the route if needed. You will cherish the memories. I know it to be true. Here's you and your son on the drive:

DAS did a great job of getting my 993 from Austin TX to CA. You can save some money if you drop off and pick up at their terminals.

I started the earlier post on this subject, and this is what I learned. (I ended driving from L.A. to Denver BTW) Most of the quotes theat you get online are the lower number around 700. But... when you call to confirm you most likely will find out that they will not put a 914 on a outside car carrier. No tie downs, according to them. That is what I found, when shopping. Which leaves you to enclosed only transport whichj is big $$. That's what made me decide to drive. Ferg.

Another option is to rent a car dolly and drive up and tow it home. But I vote for the fly & drive home. I have done both and F&D is much more fun.

Rent a tow dolly in Seattle and drive back and drop in Az.
You could buy a tow dolly and drive it back then you will have one for future projects. or you could sell it and easily make your money back. But withht e cost of gas and lodging, you would be better off with a transport co.

Fly and drive.

You have full 914 coverage by Brad from Willows Ca. to Buttonwillow Ca. on Hwy 5. This is about 8 hours of your trip.

Cool. A father/son team. Glad to have you both on the board.

Fly and Drive!! I did it from San Francisco to Michigan and had a ball. I'd do it again in a minute, and the 914 support network on that route was alot thinner than a Seattle to Phoenix run.

Fly and drive. No question to it.

I did this with the 911 I bought from Steve Malm, and the trip was great - Los Angeles to Kansas.

P.S. If you're unsure about the car, have the owner take it to a P-wrench for a checkup before you fly out. That should help give you a warm'n'fuzzy feeling about the trip.

You can pack up all your tools and take them as checked baggage on an airplane, just expect them to be rifled though, etc. I carried two bags of tools with me, and only used a screwdriver on the entire trip.

Ernie I sent a 914 to Sacramento(Granite Bay) today and I used John Valdez. Cost $250.He is based out of Gresham Oregon. He has a dual enclosed transporter. He travels Seattle,Portland, Arizona,Calif,Texas. If you don't want to hassle with the drive give him a call, tell him Craig sent you .I will use him again. He can also bring cars up from those same areas.

Contact John Valdez at Cell. 503-312-8581 Valdez Auto Transport. Also the transporter will hold eight vehicles. Two above and two below. And it is a "dually" means eight vehicles.
