That is where you disconnect the throttle cable from the pedal assembly. It is supposed to come apart with some leverage applied, but not just fall apart.

The ball socket must have worn out for it to fall apart like that.

Yes they come apart, I usually seperate the rod when I'm working on a clutch or throttle cable. It will just snap back onto the ball of the peddle cluster and then to the back of your gas peddle.

it snaps on but pops right off with small movement. the lever that has the balls flops side to side - guess it is not supposed to do this ? jim

can you tie them in a knot?

Jim... you're correct on this. It is only supposed to pivot forward and backwards.

I had the same probem last summer. Try a pair of ppliers to snap it back on. I had to use a little pressure...

inside the cup portion is a small round clip that expands when you insert the ball.
See if that is still there.

rtowle - yes - the clip is still in there - thanks

because if the slop in the movement of the dual ball arm - i decided to remove the peddle assy and rebuild it.

Get a new ball and cup.
George at AA has them and its worth it at this point.

Use the brass bushings instead of the nylon (again George has them)
This is a much better setup that can be lubed and wont bind.

Now, you need to get the pressed in pin out...not a great thing to do.
Use the correct sized punch, not a nail or a nail set...get the right punch or you will be sorry.
Its in there and rusted.

Your throttle linkage arm looks a little bent. I just dealt with one where the welds holding the rod to the arm were failing. Zapped it back into place. The rod and the arm should be about a right angle to each other.

Still looks bent to me. Pull out the pin and remove it. Clean it up and check for cracking.

I might have bent it the day I drove it back from Summer Duck driving.gif
It probably happened when I spanked that BMW 320i on Rt66 East. aktion035.gif
I was just trying to get more throttle out of it! av-943.gif

you are one competitive engineer : )

i notice my shifter is bent too (see pic ) : )

that bmw must have really been something : )

* you will not believe how powerful 914v8 is when full throttle range is available to the gas peddle - much more similar to glenn's car than i ever thought it could be.
