so i got that set of 96mm cylinders today...
the box they shipped in was the first red flag.. (a "Flavor House, Inc." a spice company)

I open the box and want to look at what they look like... I see padding on top (just the top mind you... their box is in it with some inflated air bubbles on top..)
... second red flag..

I open their box (it actually says their company now (qsc Quality Specialty Components.. yea right)
I unwrap one cylinder, which basically had 2 layers of cardboard protecting it during shipping... this was apparent as a piece of one of the cylinder fins falls off upon completely unwrapping...

im just like.. "wtf... 1. quality my ass 2. wtf... 3. now how do i fix this...

i can tell this may turn into a struggle getting a refund/new one...

so basically, qscusa.com friggin BLOWS!
in my defense, they were bought on ebay and there was no mention of their company name or website... only upon seeing the website on the box is when I knew i had fuched up...

wish me luck...

EDIT:
4-14-08 - Received damaged product / 6:48pm - submitted question to seller through ebay reporting the broken item and requesting their return policy

EDIT:
10:57pm - Sir, we can exchange the bad cylinder for a good one and ship the offending one back to us. Please ensure it gets back to us so that we can return for credit.

- foreignparts_plus

I emailed back asking if they will cover return shipping.

EDIT:
11:44 - Yes, we will file a shipping claim for the damage.

- foreignparts_plus

EDIT:
11:45pm - I send: ah ok!
Do ya'll ship the new one and I ship the old one back in the same shipping material or how does it work?

- sanantoniobidder

EDIT:
01:15am - That will be fine.

- foreignparts_plus

stay tuned..

Steve,
If you get your money back, I have a set of AA 96mm for 2.0 if you are interested. You will not have to worry about shipping. I am building a stock 2.0 with some KS pistons and cylinders.

Posted by: stateofidleness Apr 14 2008, 07:37 PM

hey man, appreciate the offer! still crossin my fingers.
ive been convinced to stick with my stock setup as my planned budgeted "rebuild" could get a lot more expensive if i remove the heads..

so im not goin the cylinder route, but again, i appreciate the offer!

the shipping claim part is a stalling tactic.
Dont hold your breath. BTDT.

Request a UPS ticket on their account.

Posted by: stateofidleness Apr 15 2008, 12:03 PM

says it was delivered by fedex and it has their account number on the box..
if i file a claim myself, i dont want it to jeopardize the possibility of not getting the replacement...

are Fedex and qsc both going to want to recover the broken item?

what's the fedex claim process like?

i had good luck with both, FedEx and UPS claims ...

both times, they had one of their drivers come out, inspect the damage, signed off on the claim and i got my money in the mail a few days later ...

PS: however, i was shipping stuff to myself from over the pond, so i was both, the shipper and receiver ...

When will people learn... (obviously never)

"Penny wise and pound foolish"

QSC is a bunch of copycats that know NOTHING about the Type 4 engine. They CANNOT assist you with any aspect of your build because YOU know more about the car and engine than they do!!!!

UPDATE

few emails sent back and forth and they took care of the bad cylinder in a VERY timely manner (overnighted a replacement).

well I get it today and...

...i could just tell from how flimsy the box was that it wasn't going to be pretty inside...

Here is the email I sent them a few moments ago:

"Hi there,
I received the replacement cylinder today and was very happy with how quick it came... but as soon as I opened the box, I could hear
pieces rattling around...

I opened the box and there was a cylinder fin piece already on top. I pulled out the whole package and the whole bottom of the bag is filled with pieces.
(I've attached some pictures of the cylinder I received today)

I am in the middle of an engine rebuild and I am on a very strict deadline. I feel I need to pursue an alternate vendor in order to meet that deadline.
I really would like to just get a full refund for the original purchase. I have been pleased with the service I have been provided thus far and may purchase from you
again in the future, however, as time is a concern, and this is round 2, I need look elsewhere.

Can you please assist me obtaining a full refund and returning the original cylinders and the 1 replacement cylinder?

Thank you so much,
Mr. Hanz
"

So while I have been very pleased with their customer service, I just can't keep going back and forth with this... cross your fingers for me..

Sorry to hear that. You would like to think that a company that sells cylinders would have better packaging... It will speak a lot about them to hear how your request for refund experience goes...

if it can't survive a drop onto the floor from 4 feet, it won't survive UPS or FedEx ...

wow.. so i'll update you guys on this, and i have a serious question.
i ended up having to file a dispute with paypal over this and i ACTUALLY got a full refund! however, one of my stipulations was that i wanted the seller to cover return shipping. being that it was found in my favor as the seller did not respond to the dispute, you would think that since i won, return shipping would be included.

now the problem.. i was refunded full purchase price. im happy there. BUT, i still have 5 cylinders here, 2 known broken and i WILL NOT pay for return shipping on these, they are heavy! so my question is:

How long of a time frame do i have before i can legally sell these parts or "move" them. I have made many attempts to contact the seller (and it's documented) as well as offering to return the parts (with previous stipulation) of course. Hell, i even thought about charging them a holding fee lol..

what's my recourse here... I'd like to have my closet shelves back lol

I'm no attorney, so don't move forward on my comments, but;
1. You have received your money back on the items.
2. Although PayPal refunded you the purchase price, they did not provide any findings beyond that fact.
3. When you accepted the payment back from PayPal, you no longer had any legal title or claim to the items in question.
4. If you sell the cylinders, then you might be considered to have been enriched at the expense of the original seller.
5. At this time, the ownership of the cylinders never transferred to you, they are owned by the original seller.

My advise is to check with PayPal regarding final disposition of these items. Additionally, I would send a registered letter (receipt required) through the U.S. mail to the sellers stating your desire to dispose of these items within 60 days of receipt of the letter, and that continued storage at your address after 60 days will result in storage fees being charged.

Provide a copy of this letter to PayPal legal department.

Keep copies of every communication regarding this transaction. Make notes of any telephone conversations you have including dates and names of persons in the conversations.

I will be interested in hearing what the PayPal legal department has to say.

Please keep us updated.

This is what happens when things are bought from less than reputable companies that are whoring parts out that they don't even work with..

Chalk it up as a loss and go from there and mail them back the cheapest way possible.. You are VERY lucky that you have gotten as far as you have!

Posted by: stateofidleness Jul 6 2008, 01:41 AM

I'm past the "learn your lesson" stage here.. i got that...don't need to hear it again..

Eric, that is my reasoning as well. I have received the payment refund so therefore, I am no longer entitled to the merchandise as well. But, after making numerous attempts to contact the seller to return merchandise, all communications go unanswered.

Isn't there a "statute of limitations" on this that says they "become mine" after so long or after a "reasonable amount of time" they are no longer recoverable? In no way do I feel I deserve to keep the goods, I just REFUSE to pay to ship these back on my dime.

The seller already forgot who you are/were..

Post them for sale and if the seller asks for them back, treat them as they have treated you.

I guess they weren't really so "cheap" after all. It sucks when guys have to find out things like this the hard way. It happens daily.

If they ask for them back, put them in a brown grocery bag and staple them shut. Then send them back UPS. I guarantee they will get the message... biggrin.gif

In my opinion eBay is the one that refiunded the money to you. If anyone has legal claim to these it would probably be eBay.

Check with eBay legal.
