Hi Guys & Gals,

Things are shaping up nicely for the WCR 2008 Ramble.

We have close to thirty registered for the event, with the standard procrastinators among us ( I'm one ); this is going to be quite the turn-out.

Here's what we need to do by May 1st:

Get signed-up at your Hotel of choice, the Holiday Inn ( they reduced their price to $106.) is our host , they have been very good to us so far. The Motel 6 is a nice spot just across the street.

Get your money sent to me ASAP ( I'm currently unemployed & need a trip to Costco) We just need to get a few of the goodies going.

We have some great fun planned:

Friday's jouney to Port Townsend via a ferry ride should be a very memorable trip. Larry (LS6/914) has some fun and sights planned for us.

I was hoping to be able to subsidize some of the $40.00 roundtrip ferry ticket but I'm not so sure at this point...bring the $$$.

For Saturday the one and only RhodyGuy ( Kevin ) is working on a route up and over Mt Rainier for us! ( I'll set up mountain rescue in advance); if we all make it down the mountain Saturday nights banquet should be a spiritual event.

The driver on the 5/01/08 cut-off date is the hotel. Once the rooms are released it's every man/woman for themselves.

A gigantic smilie_pokal.gif to Rob (Conedodger) for keeping this on Page 1 the entire winter!
It's still up in the air whether Rob can make it but he get's free beer.gif either way. cheer.gif pray.gif

I'm still having fun... welcome.png

You chose the same week end as the Portland Historic Races?? Why?

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Apr 21 2008, 01:04 PM

There was going to be conflics no matter what weekend we did it. Had to just pick the date that would work best. The weekend before is the historics are at Pacific Raceways. It is a very nice track to watch them at.

I can't get the hotel linky to work. I sure miss getting to talk to someone before I hand over money. Old Fashioned I know.

Posted by: JRust Apr 21 2008, 03:36 PM

Just wrote out my check. It will be going out today. I am hoping to bring my son (age 9). We'll see how that pans out though. Not sure where all the events are. If we are doing any meeting lunch or dinners in bars that kind of screws that up. Also who knows if the wife will go for it. Any Mariners games that weekend? Be a good excuse to catch one biggrin.gif

I am sure there will be kid friendly stuff as you aren't the only one that wants to bring their kids. The Mariners are out of town this weekend sad.gif They're in KC

Dave, I had the same problem. Gotta take the slash of the IATA code number or something. Finally got it to work on third try..

This is one of the difficulties in planning any event. ( so I was told by many).

After grappling with many possible dates and various conflicts I chose this weekend.

Sorry for the conflict.

Hi Dave,

This link was sucessfully set-up some months back and something may be screwy now...

I'll talk with the Holiday Inn tomorrow to see if they can fix it for us.

The hotels phone # is also listed on the announcement if you need to book now.

Hi JRUST,

Based on past events this should qualify as "kid friendly" as long as the kids haven't lived too sheltered of a life. beerchug.gif

Last years ramble plenty of kids around, I remember one that wandered off & caused a little panic amongst the parents. We found him in someone elses room at the hotel.

Jamie - I think my family will be tagging along as well - two girls (6 & 9).

Lets make sure we coordinate an Oregon to Washington caravan. Is Coy attending? Just checked the above list - yes he is.

there is a nice state park nearby on lake samamish. the lake warms up nicely during the summer and i think it has life guards. boutique style shopping at burke-gillman village in issaquah. i haven't been there in ages, so that's just a guess. the little ones will be fast asleep when the wolves are baying @ the moon.

The event rotates to a different West Coast region each year - this year's event should have been in SoCal, but that didn't happen, so I stepped up and volunteered to organize the event. After consulting with other 914World members dates were selected and the announcement made. I was told to "get a thick skin" from past organizers; at times I've needed it. But this is the 1st time anyone has questioned the $75.00 fee. welcome.png

Our goal is to make this annual get-together a fun, 914-community event - but even with all-volunteer help it still costs $$ to make things happen. The registration fee was arrived at with input from past event chairs; we hope that everyone registering and attending will enjoy the event and come away with something memorable.

Food costs $$, beer costs $$, heck, even cups and napkins cost $$! We're keeping the costs as low as possible, and trying hard to give everyone the biggest bang for their ($75) bucks!! As in past years, any $$ left over will be donated to a charitable organization.

We hope to see your registration form, and check in the mail soon - all of us teeners are looking forward to hanging out with other like-minded (read obsessed) individuals - see you in Issaquah for WCR2008.

hell yea!!! screw the $75!! just show up!!! if something goes wrong up around sunrise your on your own. bring your own food and drink. money is tight for everyone these days. planning in advance (say 2 months) = $2.50 a day, so the "money is tight" deal is kind of weak. save your quarters. easy to tell who didn't pay too. no lanyard, no entrance fee. no goodies, no maps, no secret handshake. i'll bring some cones to mark off freeloader parking. haha.

This is my opinion only. I think the food is nice, the beer is good, the drives and any track events are OK. The real fun for me is the parking lot stuff. The BS and attaching faces to names is great. Stories of the old days and some of the characters these cars have attracted are great. Checking out the cars is great. The journey to and from is great (not much travel this time for me). It's tough to put a price on that stuff.

Curt,

Actually if my wife thought I had a girlfriend I would be pretty much toast. She is a filipina and you don't live through that revelation.

I hope to bring both her and our son but she may still go to the Phillipines without me. She misses her family a great deal and was planning on this trip. I just don't think I can get Institutional Review Board approval for the study in time to get decently priced plane tickets. I am lobbying for a December/January trip which she will want to go on. She wouldn't trust me in the Phillipines alone. I guess white guys are a big aphrodisiac for filipinas...

Autocross??TSD events gimmick events. I like the idea of meeting more 914 fans its just that moneys tight so i need to watch every penny! can i just show up for the day and look around at the cars and BS with folks..Thanks for all your hard work in bringing this all togather.Hope i dont sound to cheap ...Thanks again flag.gif

We hope to see your registration form, and check in the mail soon - all of us teeners are looking forward to hanging out with other like-minded (read obsessed) individuals - see you in Issaquah for WCR2008.

av-943.gif That could be a sweet commission if it was the right block biggrin.gif My dad has been in real estate for over 37 years and has actually done that before. I got to hold the check and it was very impressive.

I am always generous, selling the long block just pays for some of the work I have done to my car these past few weeks...... some... very little

Just out for a little drive in Juneuary. Way to much $$$ for my golf game.

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Jun 13 2008, 12:38 PM

It is beautiful to golf there though. Been there once. I think I lost 12 balls or so biggrin.gif I try to stick to the public courses though. I've only been golfing 13 times in my life and 9 times since I got married.

Posted by: ConeDodger Jun 13 2008, 01:09 PM

You guys should play golf like my friends and I do... Each of us starts with a dozen balls and we can inspect each others bag to make sure there are no extras hidden. When the game is over, whoever has the most balls left wins. Almost no math involved! Plus, it fits our game biggrin.gif

av-943.gif On courses like New castle that would be a good idea. Some of the local courses it is really hard to lose a ball though. My father-in-law has a 4 handicap and has been teaching me a lot. Rhodyguy,

What time are we leaving?

Should I have gas in my tank or is there a gas station close by?

Once we get there, where are we going by the way? is there a place theat I can take a leak or maybe get a burger?

Is there any place to park? I hear there is a lot of crime up there?

Shouldn't this be on the best "rest stops in Orygun" thread?

Curt,

Sounds like I coulden't of planed it better my self. I hate to beat a dead horse, But coming from Sequim, I want to time the meeting of everyone in Pt Gamble, and drive back to Issaquah from there on friday. Let me know if any plans change , as I will keep an eye out on your postings. How late and where does the banquet thing happen????

Tony

Hey Tony,

As Conedodger pointed out it's all on page 1 , 6:00 or so in Issaquah, we'll leave from the hotel for dinner at one of the best restaurants ( my families favorite) here in town.

Greenie

Hey Curt,

I just want to make sure I don't miss you guys at PT Gamble. I figure if you leave Issaquah around 11ish you'll catch a 12-12:30 ferry and be in Pt Gamble around one-ish.

Remind everyone the state troopers have a + 3 to 5 mph over the limit and the'll nail you, plus the speed limit changes 30 times from kingston to Pt Gamble.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Maybe I can loose my newbie lable

Nah... I was just giving you a little "bitch slap"... biggrin.gif So far, the cost is $1200.00 for a new washer and dryer, unknown for the sheet rock as the guy has missed 2 estimate appointments, and probably $600 for the dishwasher. It's just money but somehow an inconvienienced woman sees it as much more. The few guys who have been to my house from 914World can tell you that I live on a lot of land in the middle of the metro area. Almost 2 acres in fact. But the joys of living in a 58 year old house sometimes include one thing after another... mad.gif

Hi Kevin,

I should be crossing the floating Hood Canal bridge to meet in Pt Gamble, Then Ferry to Seattle side, Then I-90 floating bridge to Issaquah. Not a bad commute. Beats sitting in traffic in LA.

I thought there is a Teener in the west sound, Bremerton area? I forgot who he is.

I think so. I am pretty sure Dan will be there and Dino will likely show up. Greg is most likely somewherewith his race team. He is the Chief engineer of Alex Job racing and does other stuff for other racers as well. Rather hard to get a hold of him during the summer.

We want to gather everyone in Issaquah if possible, if time does not permit this we'll have an optional plan B. ( driving to Issaquah from the South adds maybe twenty minutes vs direct).

We will leave Issaquah at 11:00 sharp for the ferry, this is a 30 to 40 minute drive. This puts us at the dock with an hour or so to spare. We are taking the 12:55 sailing.

Rhodyguy could put together a " collection site Plan B " for people coming from the south & navigate the group to Edmonds.

I know it's a little inconvienent for some to drive to Issaquah but it gives us better odds of getting on the same ferry.

Just a reminder... I will have all the ferry tickets with me in Issaquah, they will be barcode type , they will scan us thru into our "special lane". We'll collect $20.00 for each car & driver for the round trip. ( $5.00 for additional passenger)

Still no baby yet... We did the Chinese food, sex, warm bath, foot massage... what else is there? Gotta get this baby out or there's no way I'll be seeing anyone sad.gif

Well gee Jon, as a medical professional my advice is to try all of the same again. Only do it in this order: Chinese food, foot massage, sex, warm bath... If that doesn't work repeat step 3 several times biggrin.gif

Just a thought - would it be easier for us that are heading north Friday a.m. to just head directly to the Edmonds ferry terminal instead of risking being late into Issaquah? confused24.gif

Greenie

Hi Curt,

Since I'll be coming from the "other side" Can I get in on the $20 RT ferry tickets?

I would think LS6 Lary would need the same deal.

Also FYI on the edmonds fery ( I'm sure you know) in Friday the line can get all the way up the hill and can take 2 ferrys to get thru. Hopefuly you beat the crowds.

See you in Pt Gamble,

Tony

Curt,

Thanks for thinking ahead, I'll have $20 with your name on it. Also, I'll think I'll be paying extra at the pump. I'm curious what kind of mileage I'll get.

Not to be parinoid, but Don't miss the ferry, and keep an eye on the Speed limit(s), the speed limit in Pt Gamble is a whopping 25.

I sent Larry a PM and have not heard from him, Does he need any help?

Beautiful morning in Port Gamble. When you get on the ferry be sure to check the views of Mt Baker to the north, Mt Constance, The Brothers to the west in the Olympic range. A word of caution as you cross the railroad tracks when boarding the ferry, there is a dip between the rails. slowly approach at a angle. Exiting the ferry on the Kingston side the two lanes will merge right to one. Speed is 25, WSP sits in the parking lot on the right at top of hill in real estate office. See ya Friday w00t.gif

Tomorrow, I'm looking for a volunteer to do one of two things...

I want to get a photo of the cars on the ferry, so I want to walk (run!) off the ferry as soon as it docks. In order to do this, I'll need a driver... I'm looking for someone to either give me a ride in their car, or for someone to drive my wife's Mazda 3 off the ferry for me.

Any help?

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Jul 10 2008, 01:28 PM

Hey Todd

If you get someone to drive your car off you shoulb be off well before the cars go by walking. They let the pedestrians off first then start to unload cars.
