I was told by a local guy who is into air cooled vw and fixes them on the side ,that my engine does not sound to healthy he said a valve ajdustment might fix it.Can some 1 here tell me what they think,opinions advice thx here is a video clip .http://s286.photobucket.com/albums/ll102/manta_7/?action=view&current=noise.flv

I can't tell too much with my crappy computer speakers, but it sounds like your valves are pretty noisy (need adjustment). I'm sure others will chime in here with loads more experience than me.

Can't hurt to make sure the valves are correct.

What year is the car? Charcoal canister in the back makes me think 75 or 76. Make sure all of the exhaust connections are good. If it is a 75 1.8, then you need make sure you have no air leaks too.
