Brad asked me to help test the "beta" site before it went "live". Me, Kim, Jeroen, Andy, Brad, Sean (I think), Craig, I don't remember who else.

Yeh -- beta testers we were. We tried out silly posts, and I started dumb topics about me and my non running 914. Oh wait.... wonder if I'm still in test mode.... laugh.gif

I'm always looking at Car porn, but I think it was the Bird Board that lead to here. I read both boards. And the Lincoln board, and the Passat board, and the 911 board, I'd read the boxster board, but I can't cope with that stupid setup they have, I'd read the Cayanne board, but its going to need a couple years to mature.

I'd read the Ferrari boards, but I don't think I'll ever own one, so I don't bother.

Posted by: URY914 Jan 24 2004, 04:06 PM

I noticed the quality of the bird board dropped to near zero about a year ago. Than someone said something about where everyone was.

Posted by: Racer Chris Jan 24 2004, 04:36 PM

I saw a link at the bird board when Brad was doing initial testing of the site, so I went there and asked a question. Brad told me to go away then, and I never thought about it afterwards.
A while later Paul Heery sent me a link to a topic here where Brad was claiming to be duplicating my header design at SSI. I came over ready for a fight. mad.gif ar15.gif finger.gif

I used to chat with the principals in the all914 chat room (per board days) and they mentioned it was up and running. So I stuck my head in, had a look and my addiction got worse. laugh.gif

One day I was looking a teeners for sale on eBay.
I saw a cool 914 Texas road sign in the background of one of the photos.
I wrote to the seller (boxstr) and asked if it was for sale also.
We exchanged a few e-mails and photos.
He was the one who gave me a link to this web site.
Craig Laughlin is the one to blame for me finding this place. splat.gif

Actually, I got tired of 75% NPC elsewhere. If I don't want to play with NPC here, I can just skip it... If I am bored, I can always click on the NPC...

Someone asked "where everybody had gone". A reply came back "www.914world.com"

Posted by: Jeff Bonanno Jan 24 2004, 07:58 PM

started surfing the bird when i bought boldylocks' beater last year - i saw something about dave's van there and wanted to donate. followed the paypal thingy and put in - then i wanted to know who the hell this "brad" was. so i called him at his shop and actually spoke to the MAN! (haven't washed that ear for a year)

he was all like talking wevo and 914/6 tubs over his shoulder and telling me to get on the board, etc.

haven't done a lick of work since then trying to keep up with the posts...

Brad made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I was still on Pelican, and content had slowed waaaaay down. Sent a PM to B-Hole regarding a FI question and he said the only way he would answer my question is if I came over here...

Posted by: Chris H. Jan 24 2004, 11:22 PM

I literally stumbled onto it by accident right when the new site was getting started. I remember wondering what happened to Brad and a few other guys who used to answer a lot of questions on the PP Board. Sure has grown!

It was like the episode of Dallas when Bobby is in the shower and it was just a dream he had been dead !
I just showed up at the Alki breakfast in Seattle and Geoff was giving out 914club stickers and I said "it that a web address", the rest is history. Pelican is on the endangered species list and 914club is a Lemming.

have to watch the Animal planet channel now

What got me here orginally was the old board. And someone on the bird, but really what sold me was the two posts I did for the Mid West 914 Classic ,(2003) P.Parts post 100. hits , same one on here 200+ hits. Kind of a no brainer!!!! This site Rocks. And I need my fix at least twice a day now. Even the wife ask who posted what today. The day we were offline for repairs or whatever. I had withdrawal
systems. I'm hooked. Dave smilie_flagge6.gif

Heard Brad bolted from PP to focus on this site and curiousity did the rest.

Visit both regularly, since there really aren't any other good 914-related sites.

I`ve been lurking on all the sites for over six years(when I picked up the first `teener) Can`t remember how I got to this one, probably a link from P.P. Still look there but I come to this one first!! Great place to be when I have the time. givemebeer.gif smilie_pokal.gif boldblue.gif

I have no idea...I was one of the "early" guys I guess.

Posted by: Jenny Jan 26 2004, 11:10 AM

Brad gave me the link a couple days before the site went "public". I vaguely rememeber trying to break it, but I'm not as good at it as most of the computer gurus here...

I think everyone kept a watchful eye/ear after B's bout over at Rennlist. "F*ck this, I'm taking my toys and going somewhere else to play." agree.gif

Posted by: Bleyseng Jan 26 2004, 11:23 AM

B's bout on Rennlist was funny! still don't understand what it was all about.....

I was member # 24 so I guess it was still in the try and break it mode....

it was about vendor shit. JD seemed to be defending a vendor that advertised on rennlist. And Brad calls it the way he sees it. He never slanders anyone. If he has something negative to say about something or someone, it's because he's had past experience to draw from. It's never speculation. Hell, you never even hear him ridiculing ricer cars or other such projects. He really respects the difference in opinion and taste. Makes me feel smaller when I'm with him, and it's not because I'm just under 5'2.

Which is why "vendor-neutral" was such a big thing here.

I think I found a link on the Bird Board. I lurked here for a while, then decided that there were more and better answers for all of my stupid questions here, so I broke down and joined. I very rarely check Pelican now, only if I've read all of the threads here first.

Posted by: aufaber Jan 26 2004, 02:58 PM

Knew brad, mueller, malmz, chris.. etc from the Rennlist days.

Oh.. yeah.. and Mike Zois.. but I came anyway. laugh.gif
