I've been tinkering with the idea of putting side mirrors on the teener...but i dont know which ones i would put on. I'm in favor of putting a driver and passenger mirror...I also am not a fan of chrome.
any ideas
If you want something other than stock I am doing some like these on East coaster's sweet ride.
From late model Miata, like 00' or so, I don't have my notes handy.
Jim
I've got a pair of 911 flag style electric motors (with wiring) if you decide to go that route.
all three of my mirrors wiggle like crazy when i am driving - barely useable- i really need to do something too! miata hum?
I like the later RX7 style (1993-1995 vintage).

I used honda CBR mirrors. They work really well and don't look out of place at all. You just have to make some sort of bracket for it.
In that pic, it looks like the curvature is off.
If they're too flat, they're from a 944. You can buy the 911 bases & backing plates & they'll fit right.

can you throw a picture of the cbr mirrors on here?
i know this is going to probably be blasphemy on this forum...but what about 968 mirrors...a nice set of black ones? maybe an expensive addition but i'd rather be safe and in porsche style
for instance something like this...but obviously on a 914...and not white mirrors...that would really look bad on my red 914

I am running 2006 Pontiac Solstice mirrors.
I always liked the 911 flag mirrors. They look good and are bigger than the stock mirrors.
off topics by a lot...but what wheels are you runnning and what tires. those are gorgeous!!!!
I like the 911 flag mirrors, but now that I own two real Sixs they have to stay stock, though they will have passenger sides as well. If anybody wants a set of flag mirror I have a set in my stash.

I don't know what happened when I went to put this pic up in my last post. Anyway my 73 2.0 with Flag mirrors. This beautiful car burned and melted into the ground in 1996.

stock all the way with the excption being curved glass in the passenger side
Doug Armstrong (tracks914) put these Oldsmobile Mirrors on. His thread was from January. They look very cool.

I have a pair of California mirrors (painted guard's red ) that I will let you have very cheap.
What do they look like?
Stay in the family and somewhat period correct for the car. Flags.
You have to get 911 bases for the mirrors and modify the curve to get them right. Mine are still only 99% correct. I need to remove them again and touch up the angle one more time.

how about these mirrors??
They are motorcycle mirrors and the outer body is made from real carbon fiber, the lens is german made and gives a really clear and wide view of whats going on behind compared to stock mirrors, the stay is made of light weight alloy and they are adjustable and you can select different length stays that might work on a 914. They are sold here in Japan and made here as well except for the lenses. Could be kind of cool, who knows...
Cheers
Good idea if you could get them in a horizontal mounting, not vertical. Sort of like stock mirrors.
I am partial to these Olds mirrors.
That car looks sweet but really needs some spacers on there to make it look best.
just got the cbr mirrors on. they are a little long. but i actually like it....gives a little more style to the car...kind of like a lamborghini...stickin way out and all
80s Escort mirrors, $5 each, and power too

I put these on as a temporary measure because I couldn't decide what mirrors I really wanted.
Now I really like them, they work fine, and the glue shows no sign of giving up.
You don't need a horizontal fixing if you glue them to your glass
why do you need to see behind you???
Rich
swapped: I love your front bumper and valance...what are they from and those mirrors look really sleek.
mark: love the spoiler...not sure about the mirrors. the cost of course...the thought that i've escorted my 914....kind of makes me die a little inside.
and i guess it is the cool thing to put a Porsche crest on your hood. i better jump on that asap
rich...its not that we need to...its that we want to...be safe??? i dont know where i was going with that
Thank you Thomas, Jim, for your comments.
The car was built (rebuilt) in the mid-90s by a man with lots of skills but an aversion to buying parts or doing things the conventional way.
He also built a Hebmuller replica, all in metal, from a picture he had on a t-shirt:
The front and rear bumpers are the original metal ones, smoothed and filled and reshaped to how you see them. I have no idea what the front spoiler is, and haven't seen another one in this country, or online, so far as I remember.
The camera always flatters my 914, and what you can't see is the floorpan, which is strong and flex-free, but not as it left the factory (more of a tribute in metal to the art of the patchwork quilt).
But he also spent ages modifying a type4 muffler to have a twin-centre exit that looked like a pig-snout that you can just about see in this picture:
That exhaust pretty-much disolved into red dust soon after I got the car, and I replaced it (eventually) with a 4-1 header and no longer run a rear valence.
Any mid 90's Delta 88, (Pontiac Bonneville too I think).
Check out my thread, it was easy to do, cheap and look pretty good.

I use to make these 935 type mirrors for 911's. I had one pair of proto type 914's left. Here they are.
I used power mirrors from a Honda Del Sol. The base of the Del Sol mirror is very wide and it took a lot of work to conform it to the curve of the door. I also added reinforcing brackets from the inside. The control switch is from a late model Miata.
When mounting your flag mirrors you need to start w/ them so they are a bit above the horizon because as you tighten the mounting screw it tends to pull them down so they angle downward and can look droopy like the pic of the lt. blue 73 in an earlier post. Also if you look at a 911 the driver's mirror is mounted more foward on the door than the passenger side.
I know this is old but I like the olds mirrors and started looking for some online. Are the original mirrors plastic? The replacement ones say they are plastic. I can go to a pick and pull but I thought I would check online first.
