I was thinking it would be neat to build a little pick up truck bed on the back of 914, you know to carry stuff when i go to Lowes and the garden store.
I would like to say this was my idea, but I've seen it done to countless beetles.
I just think it's time for a Porsche truck-
I wonder how they do engine work on that bug...must be really annoying unless they've thought of something clever.
It's been done . . .years ago, with a -6, no less! The end result was not bad (Pat did't like it , though )
I deleted your duplicate thread.
Thanks, I'm a butter finger sometimes.
I'd like to see a picture, I searched google, but no luck.
try searching "Troutman 914 pick up" or "Aase 914 pick up"
Thanks,

Don't do it. If you buy a used import for 3 or 4 grand, you'll have a decent truck and a 914. Otherwise, you'll have neither.
The gal is older than Gint....
How about a waterpumper?
Here you go. I saved all the pictures URY took at Gunnar Racing because I will do it someday, I think.

This looks nice, but I really had my heart set on wooded stacks and slats.
Sorry, but if you make it a wooden slat pickup, be ready to be Owned.

TC you play nice. Haha.
I think the old school beetle truck would transfer well. Do it to a narrow body car and don't slope the deck (hey thats like that dang hondu truck), have a fairly shallow bed with a floor that lifts to provide enclosed storage under the cargo.
I say go for it!
Go for it wood and all.

I've thought about this too...mine would have an aluminum plate on the back of the trunk to protect the plastic rear light covers from stuff tossed into the back, a removeable grate to cover the back window that would bolt to the ski rack holes, and a removable alloy tubular cage like the back of those 4 door pick-ups.
The idea of a wood platform would be cool, especially if was on the trunk hinges and could be propped up to use the trunk and store the top. Hidden trunk under the flatbed truck!
For God's sake, if you want a pick up, buy a pick up. Don't destroy a 914.
And if you're bi-polar or something (like most males appear to be in Australia) and MUST have a cross between a car and a truck, then get one of these:
The second one may go on sale in the US at some point...
