914World.com _ 914World Garage _ is this mirror original for a 914?

Posted by: Scott H Jul 5 2008, 11:48 AM

I recently got rid of a '72 parts car.
When I got the car, this rear view mirror was laying in the floor when I cleaned it out.
I just ran across it today and if it's not an original mirror I'll toss it out but if it's Porsche I want to pass it along to someone that needs it.

I don't know, but since the one in my wife's car just fell off the other day, and is still laying on the floor, I'll look at it sometime today and let you know confused24.gif

The giveaway is the post between the mirror and the mount. Definately not a 70's item.

Someone may want it, put it for sale in the Parts for sale classifieds, not everyone cares if it is Porsche.

I'm pretty sure ours was the original '71 and held on for 37 years ... my question is, what can I reattach it with to go another 37 years ... laugh.gif

Here's a thought... Reattach it to the place where it fell off???

EDIT: And use really, really good glue.

The type of adhesive was what I was referring to slap.gif

It looks like it was originally attached with some tape, but I just bought some of this Gorilla Snot stuff ... we'll give it a try idea.gif

Gorilla snot ....HAHAHA !!! We sell that stuff where I work, and so far I am not impressed with it, or the gorilla tape. I think that my own snot will hold some things better than that stuff !!! Go to your FLAPS and get some rear view mirror adhesive and it will be a lot better !!!

Go to your nearest FLAPS and purchase their rear view mirror glue. Follow the instructions, it works great....

The last time I glued a mirror was with MoPar labeled rearview glue. No idea who makes it, but it was great in my wife's now gone Grand Cherokee. Think it came from Advance Autos.

I still us the Porsche double-sided sticky pads on the 914. I have one left, but the current mirror has been on since 1988 or 99.
