The last line of the article..
"And with Porsche's stake in V-Dub, that means a 914 successor is just a badge and prayer away."
Pure speculation but seems possible.

...a gas pedal and a clutch pedal....who needs to stop?

Yeh, but it would only be a Volkswagen...not a real Porsche

Funny looking little car.........would fit right in.
Love that retractable wind screen.

The two galleries they listed in the article are past show cars, right? If I understand the article correctly they don't have pictures of the new car yet...
The first gallery is the Concept R from 2003 and the yellow one is the Eco-Racer from 2005.

Pretty much. I always thought that a light Porsche/VW mid-engine car with a 200+ HP 2.0 or 1.8L Turbo would be awesome, but with Boxster prices what they are, if I want a modern mid-engine convertible, I think I'll just pick up a 986.
Of course, if they can put out something that weighs close to 2000lbs and actually competes with the Elise, then I might be convinced to pay $45k for one over the Lotus.

Promises, promises.
Chrysler showed the Plymouth Pronto Spyder back in the '90s. Mid-engine, 2.0 drivetrain from the Neon, target price low $20s. Never made it beyond the show car stage.

They should have built it... and had the 2.4T option out of the SRT4/PT-GT. that could have been a contender.

I'd prefer they build something like this:
Posted by: 70Sixter Jul 30 2008, 03:08 PM
AutoWeek of 28 July (pg 7) reports same possibility. Basically said VW plans a lightweight, affordable mid-engine roadster and coup for sale in 2011. Majority stockholder Porsche reportedly interested "opening the way for possible resurrection of the 914."

Whatever they build it will be ugly as fuck. Hasn't been a pretty car out of Germany in years.

Don't care for the Audi TT coupe? I think that is the best looking car to come out of Germany in a long time.

I need to learn your tricks. My wife's '01 225 Quattro TT does more like 25 mpg on highway, a little less on streets.

It is a handbuilt German car using an M3 powerplant and drivetrain. .....and what is wrong with an Austin Healy....besides the English
thing?
hmmmm....damn Limeys! Gotta go and ruin a perfectly good car with lights that only want to work in the daytime, horns that will only honk when an ugly chick is walking by, horns that seem to stick only when hot chicks are walking by, and wipers that will only work when it is sunny...man I miss my Midget (yeah right!)

Tell me more about this ride! Where did the drawing come from? The Targa bar needs a little work from the rear view, but the concept is retro cool!

Just could not leave it alone
It needed some mod's...Ok, ok I'll stop now...

You need to:
1.) Uncolor the aerodynamics so it is unpainted fiberglass
2.) Add a 10 lb Fart Can Exhaust
3.) Run blue neon lights underneath
4.) Mount a big Tach in the driver view
5.) Affix a fire bottle to the "A" pillar
