914World.com _ 914World Garage _ New 914 Owner

Posted by: bradartigue Aug 12 2008, 06:04 PM

Hello,

By way of introducing myself I'm Brad Artigue, and I just agreed to buy a 1973 914 2.0. I've spent the better part of my car restoration years (since around 92) on FIATs and Alfas, all Spiders. I've written some articles on Weber carbs and Bosch fuel injection over the years and have restored upwards of 6 cars, owned around 10.

And now on to the 914s...I take delivery in about 2 weeks and can't wait.

Be gentle with my newbie questions a.u.b...

agree.gif welcome.png I'd stay clear of Pat, he'll have you spend twice as much and you'll end up with a 'Stock' 914. biggrin.gif

Pat -

Steadfastness and irreverence I can appreciate. Especially the irreverence.

I purchased a 73 2.0. It has had three owners, one of which was unfortunately a "racer wanna be" and did some creative things like add a fin and a roll bar that had to be cut out. Fortunately he did little else and the pitiful white overspray probably did more to protect the car than to harm it.

The car was originally Alaska Blue Metallic and is disassembled to some extent. The body has a little rust - but nothing spectacular to worry about. It is quite solid.

Disassemble, strip the body, reassemble, drive...it's so easy. I'll post some pictures when I get it home.

Near the LSU lakes / city park. We moved back in 2007; previously in Atlanta, San Francisco, Amsterdam, then grew up in Baton Rouge (wife) and Lafayette (me).

My wife grew up on Castle Kirk, just a few streets from your mom.

Such a small world....

BTW, I have a web site that is a photo-documentation of the work I've done on my cars.... Here's a http://www.tampabay914.com/new_project.html to it. This is a great site to get and share information about the 914....

That's awesome. He didn't do so good of a job, bolting a fiberglass fin somewhat crookedly to the trunk. I'd take the shark fin. Hell I might make a shark fin.
