This is my problem- sometimes I get ahead of myself when thinking about projects I have. And I just thought of another one
I was just admiring the engine porn that mudfoot76 provided us with, and it got me to thinking about the spare engine I inherited when I bought my teener. I've had a couple of guys looking at it, but haven't heard if they want it or not. But if they don't, here's what I'm thinking...
Go ahead and rebuild the engine (because it needs it badly), but instead of trying to sell it rebuilt, turn around and use it for a dune buggy... or a really high powered go kart!
Hehehe... of course this would take a lot of persuasion on my part to convince my wife why I'd need such a toy, but I think that would work out pretty well. It beats the shit out of an 8 horse Briggs & Stratton, that's for sure!
So... thoughts? Encouragment discouraged as this can probably only get me in trouble.
Sell the engine if you want to build a high power gocart and get a new sport bike engine. MY00 and up they are almost all EFI and have 100hp or more depending if you have the 600 or 1000. When I was in college the Mechanical Engineers would do the Formula SAE. They had limitations and the big gocarts would still do 0-60 in 4 seconds and top out at over 100mph. I want to build one with a GSXR 1000 motor. A 5-600lb car with 145hp and over 70lbft of torque makes for a crazy fast little car.
Well, if you want a gocart I agree with the above. The only difference being that I would run a slightly older engine (like a Honda F2), as the powerbands are better suited towards a 4 wheeled vehicle without using huge differential gears. The older engines have less hp outputs, but the torque is approximately the same. They only have more hp because they rev higher.
Of course, if you want a dune buggy a spare might not be a bad idea . . .
Dune buggy or go kart.... either way, it can only equal fun
I realize there's better engines to use for such an application, but just the idea of building the frame, rebuilding the motor, and bringing everything together is enough to get me, well.....
But realisticly, it probably won't happen. Either that, or it's going to take years for me to convince her why I would need to do this. Either way, it's an entertaining thought....
