I just found this video showing the machining of the Bugatti W16 engine block.
This thing is from a billet. When you know the size and complexity of this block, you can imagine how many hours (days) each block stays on the machine.

BTW, you mentioned it probably took hours/days, but the video showed it done under 10 minutes....

What amazes me is how much you can see. We I worked for GE I remember watching some CNC machining at GE Aircraft Engines one time. The parts being machined were constantly being doused with coolant. You couldn't really see anything unless they stopped the machine and opening the door.
