It's not every day that a guy gets his 25th patent for his inventions.

After awhile, it's one after another, but I decided that 25 is a good number to be happy with, and for some reason, I am....

The number might be as high as 40 someday, but I know of several others with 50-60 patents....

All in all, U.S. Patent Number 7,455,208 to Wales et al. is for a surgical stapling device that articulates or bends in the body. It's not easy when you have a shaft that is the size of a finger, and the surgeons want to use it for an endo-crowbar that that can resist a coupla hundred pounds applied at the tip. Add a hundred pounds of firing force to that and you have to take the loads out verrry carefully.

Wow congratulations!!!

In a way I hope I never need a Dr to use on of these on me...
But if a Dr does need to use something like this.... its one of your and works well

Hey I saw one of those at a swap meet not long ago. The seller said it was a dog poop pickerupper....

funny you mention it, I just got 2 more on my desk today:US D579,832S and USD 580,312.
We used to get a grand for each one, but now its considered just doing our job.

Congratulations inventor Kenny, very cool.

I had a new one issue on the 18th. of November. # 7,451,722 Internal Temperature Measuring Device.

The best thing is I make money in making my inventions in my company and selling the product and make money from my royalties that I pay myself with no 15% SS on it.

I know you love parts porn so here is a shot of the internal parts at the bendy joint. Keep in mind the shaft is as big around as your little finger. Thhe outer tube assembly slides around the inner parts and closes the jaws.

Ah yeah, that exploded wiev explains it all. Now I'll go to China, make a copy and sell for half - NOT. Congrats, I can think of several procedures where thinner "feels" better.

Kenneth,

Nice resume to have 25 US Patents. I see it's assigned to a medical device company (couldn't quite the name); do they provide you the means to handle the patent process? What is the nature of your company's business; design, manufacturing, or? Mind posting the company name? Anyway, congratulatios on your latest issue!

I too work in medical devices for a research foundation; we have 3 patent attorney's and two patent consultants for a company of about 100 employees, so we process quite a few for as small as we are. It's great to be in this kind of situation.

It's a company owned by a company that rhymes with hey and hey. They design the products in the US, and manufacture them out of the US. It looks like a lot of engineering is now being outsourced to India.

Three attorneys and two consultants!!! I used to run the invention review process for the large core business of the company (2 Billion a year), wrote a big chunk of the patents , and managed to invent. Didn't help. I now work for a law firm and write and prosecute patents.

Being that we do mostly research, we have a whole building full of inventors ergo the heavy Patent staff. Since we're a .org, we only spend money

When I owned a dental products company, I looked at a couple of Indian companies for manufacturing, but the product never got a good foothold so it was dropped. Lots resources there for (steel/Ti) surgical instruments. With todays electronic media, the design and engineering can be done anywhere around the world. I'd send SOLIDWORKS files to Hong Kong, and have a prototype product on my desk in two weeks! Pretty amazing.

it's all about the marketing, isn't it?

i have a great design (simple, cheap home store product), but i need someone to CAD my illustration... for for a piece of the backside, 'cause i have no money! if there is such a benevolent sole out there, shoot me a quick note.
