Hi,
This is the First Annual MidEngine Invasion at Hershey...the largest Porsche only swap meet and soon to be the largest 914 attended event....smile.gif
Its in Hershey PA.
We decided to invade Hershey at both the Swap meet and the AutoX on Sunday.
This is an event that has been going on now for 3 decades and its time we invaded.

The simple plan is as follows.
The Event is on April 25th...
Most people arrive on friday night.
I drive down iron butt and get there at 6:30 am

So,
We will be getting at least 4 spaces to allow us to hang out and have a tent etc.
We will get a single cheap hotel with a bar...Dr Evil is on that.

I have contacted the Central Region PCA group to see if they will allow the following.
A special section for 914 only parking in the corral/show area.
We will have several awards in that area.
A special class for our 914 community (Club and World) with the ability to give out awards....if not we can get the sheets at the end of the autox and figure that out ourselves...
We will have awards one way or another.
Special allowances for V8 cars, typically this region does not allow them...so I am told.

We have a planning forum on the other site so if one of you guyz is attached to the Central region PCA...give me an email or PM to see if we can get a few things done.

The goal is 40 cars. We get 20 at Foleys event and 20 at the ECC....so we should be at 40 if we all commit.

More logistical details will follow as things firm up and I hear info from the Central Region PCA.

I only missed last year's Hershey meet due to family events - I've been to all the others since moving here in 2003.

I'm in the Philadelphia suburbs so I'm 'local' and drive over early Saturday. I won't have a 914, just the usual ArtechnikA stuff. I hope I'll be looking to buy stuff this year...

So we'll have at least the big Outback (the little Outback is no more) and possibly the Titan. We can get all the ArtechnikA stuff in the Outback but then there is no room for parts...

So as much as I love 914's, sometimes it's nice to have a BIG vehicle you can carry stuff in.

For years I've wanted to make the trip. This makes it even more magnetic. I'd need to bum some rides, there's no way my car will be done by then.

So put me down for a maybe.

how many cars do we have confirmed already?

I'll try to make it, no 914 though. Hopefully with a running VW Camper.

There is another area you didn't mention, "Peoples Choise" kind of a mini car

show . Lots of great P. Cars . I am there every year, lots of fun , neat cars

even one of those ( You can't Turbo Charge a 914 ) . 40 914,s is very doable

there must be 10 times that amount within 500 miles of Hershey. I drive it

ever yr. in mine , and I am old ( almost 71 by then) and fat. So you you

young bloods. Can,t let a old fat guy out due you. Some one start a list of the

ones that will commit to being there. Hell it,s only 14 weeks away. I am

starting on the few things i want to do before Hershey on my 914. You do the

same!!!!!!!!! Dave slap.gif

I'm in hopefully my battery will not die this year and my wife is no longer ready to give birth. Hope to make it to the autox also. Let me know if there is anything I can do. It has always been hard to get all the 914 to park together. Let us know what # spots you reserve.

Posted by: camaroz1985 Jan 7 2009, 09:43 PM

I'll be there (without a car though). Only a couple miles away smile.gif

Posted by: r_towle Jan 7 2009, 10:05 PM

I need to figure out a good way to get all the people signed up.
I just started this so give me a day or two.

We will have lots of fun awards...and driving your 914...that is the point guys...come on.
If a 71 year old guy can drive his car....you can too.

not much farther than from Reno, and I did that in 2003 pretty much straight-through (with some much-appreciated help from Gint and Rusty) in a 26' moving truck. Stuck in the middle of a band of rainstorm as it marched east across the country - for 3 days.

So I clearly lived to tell the tale - you can too !

At 70mph, for 20hrs a day, with 4 hours for breaks and sleep, you can make it here in just over 2 days. Soooo, if you take your time you can sleep an extra 4 hrs/day smile.gif

I did most of my primary training at WHP. 3000' with power lines both ends.

They actually got a 727 in there - pilot got confused with BUR which has a similar heading, but is 5000' longer and another couple miles up the road. However, it went out in pieces...

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Jan 11 2009, 09:20 PM

Here is a logo I am working on for the event. This is a dev version only, in jpg format. The scalable .ai file I don't think can be seen on the board.

Let me know what you think. The font was just the first one I could find that looked decent.

If we make a banner, I could put it in a horizontal layout. Though, I am not sure what Hershey park might say if we have a banner with "Hershey" on it. Maybe just MidEngine Invasion.

They might own the rights to the name 'HersheyPark' and the candy brand, but as a city name, it's fair game.

I figure as long as we're open to Boxsters and Caymans it's a great name...

Alright, I have been looking into hotels in the area. I have completely neglected the closest hotels to the event due to them generally being booked long in advance. There is no shortage of hotels in the area, though. However, finding ones with bars in them is difficult as there are a lot of small motels around, but not larger hotels. Also, those with bars tend to either be expensive, booked, or the bars close early dry.gif There is hope, though. Down the street from my house is a cluster of hotels that are within walking distance to two bar/restaurants; Duke's and Dimitri's. These are the "Palmyra" locations below. The Holiday Inn in Grantville is rather large and has restaurants and bars in it, but I dont know how long they are open. It is a possibility that we could take over the 3-4 motels in Palmyra, this would be the closest and, IMHO, the best setup. But, I differ to the group as I do not have time to call all of these places and get rates, etc.

On the map, the red dot is the location of the swap/race, II is Palmyra, III is Grantville, and IV is Off of 39 Manada Hill exit.

Please take a serious note regarding the train tracks next to campground A.
This is speaking from experience...you wont sleep.
This is the main line for all trains going to the east coast...its non stop, its all shipping trains...they are really long with multiple engines...it sucks ass.

We rented a cabin there...nice little wood cabin, no frills.
There is a tiny little sign posted on the counter about a FOOT off the floor. It stated.
"Occasional Train traffic on site, no refunds"

It was every 15 minutes ALL NIGHT LONG.
I got more sleep leaving here at midnight and driving right through till 6 am.

I just booked the weekend at the Hampton Inn in Hershey. The rate was $169 including breakfast. It's close to the venue and to Dr. Evil's abode.

Information for those who care....

Betty and I are talking about flying up on Friday night, showing up for the swap meet on Saturday, and flying home on Sunday.

If we can do it, is there anything planned for Dinner on Sat? Where do we meet up with Y'all?

The planners are working on it as I type. Soon to be announced. bye1.gif The planners are checking the private forum every day and making decisions to move things forward. Stay tuned!

Hi,
Right now we are trying to get a decent rate at a hotel that is in the area.
Dr Evil, being the local guy, is visiting a few places so we get a first hand opinion of the hotel, parking, bars, etc etc.

We will try to keep the rate under 100 per night per person.
The rates range from 55-200 so we have alot to choose from.

We should have a firm hotel by the end of this week so people can sign up and book rooms.

We will not block off rooms (Unless you would like to run that on your CC)
We will negotiate a rate that is based upon a certain minimum number of rooms, and based upon confirmation of those rooms by a certain date.

We will publisize all the details by End of Week on our web site...which is in the works...so everyone can see all the details.

How much were the spots in Palmyra? Dukes would be a good place to meet up for things. It has been the place for the last 3 years since it is easy and usually has enough open seats. Auerbach is about a mi down the road form all of those motels and from Dukes.

I am not sure what you are talking about.
Maybe we should get into the Event Planning forum and finalize this.

Chocolate Town Motel rate has been $ 89.00 a night , ( for the past few yrs.,that

of course can change) $178.00 Fri. Sat nights. I usually don't stay for the Auto

X on SUN. But I might this yr., i will be the cheering section. BTW when you

guys deside which one ,hake your reservatuion early, feb. 1st if possible. The

swap puts a lot of pressure of motel rooms, Then add the darn Turkey hunters

and there hard to get late. Let us know as soon as you can as to location.

It didnt rain last year, they moved the date later in the month to beat the curse.

The curse got transferred to another party.

(Apparently.)

They stopped tours of the actual factory in the '70's. There is a simulated tour at "Chocolate World" which is walking distance to the swap meet.

Will it be open on Sunday??

Shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, the Chocolate World tour dumps you right into the gift shop. My only regret is not buying the K-Line O27 Hershey train they used to sell... I think they sell an HO scale train set now, and it's not nearly as impressive.

We will be there. We actually rented two booth spaces back to back. But we may not use it. We might bring the 914. We are staying at the holiday inn express since the wife has some points and it is free. Anyone that needs the space to sell some stuff, let us know. Even if we use it, you can put your stuff there and make some $$.

PM us if you are interested.

Every 914 in attendance will have an owner...

Posted by: ClayPerrine Mar 10 2009, 09:24 PM

There will be 3 914 owners (And one 944 owner) attending who will Not have their cars with them.

Seems the airlines won't let you carry your 914 on the plane. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Mar 10 2009, 09:55 PM

I reserved the 4 contiguous spots for us today smile.gif The meeting room is reserved, the food is chosen, the bar has been warned, the hotel is on the dole......this might actually happen wink.gif
