914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Body to trim

Posted by: KevinP Jan 21 2009, 02:11 PM

I'm replacing the chrome strip that retains the vertical door seal just above the door handle.

Can anyone tell me what the material is that is used to seal that trim to the body. I think in most cars its just a dark colored sticky dense ahesieve. I don't know what its called so maybe some of you body guys can help out. "What product to ask for".

thanks,

KP

Can you please post a pic? I don't really understand what trim piece you are attaching?

Eric,

Its more of just a retainer strip or metal channel strip that holds the rubber window seal in. It has 3 or 4 screws that hold it to the body. Hope that helps.

Don't have a pic at this time.

I'm not sure on the 'official' sealant, but butyl (available at some parts, hardware or glass places) would be a suitable replacement. 3M makes some called WindoWeld, IIRC.
