914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Show me your Cocomats

Posted by: zonedoubt Jan 26 2009, 06:58 PM

I'm thinking of getting a set of the Cocomats but want to make sure they'll look OK. I've seen some of the photos people have posted here in other threads. But I'm looking for some more to give me an idea of color/patterns on various carpet colors.

I think the black and grey dot would look great in my charcoal grey loop interior. I have a pair of custom black ones, but I would like something to lighten up the interior. I love the interior without the mats but need to protect the carpet.

Tod, did you buy the custom or universal fit?

Posted by: tod914 Jan 28 2009, 09:29 AM

Have to go with the custom for the 914's. He was saying the universal are too short to use in our cars.

I still have a pair. 34's! Saving them for my 40th college reunion, though I may have to lose another 20 pounds. Still have a pair of platforms too. Last worn in 74. Oh yeah baby, I was HOT!

Kaywoodie pipe, hot chick, platforms & a PCA concours trophy!

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack.

Continue with the cocoamat stream. Sorry, caught up in the moment.

I'm thinking of ordering a set of Coco Mats. This thread has some useful info. Cocomats.com now offers both short & long mats for the passenger side for a 914 (as discussed above).

I'm curious to hear from others who have the Long mats - the ones that wrap up against the firewall. Do they stay in place? Do you have any issues with the mats sliding or doubling over?

Thanks

I like this combo, I have tan interior and will probably get the same. Looks good!

Posted by: Scott Schroeder Jan 19 2011, 01:56 PM

Sorry for the crappy pic - I have the black with tan/gold dots in the speedster. I was going to replace them with the correct rubber floor coverings, but they are kind of growing on me.

I had a black set in my early GTI that I simply beat the cr@p out of (snow, dirt, etc). I was shocked at how well they always cleaned up. Other than some wear on the heel pad, they looked damn near new after close to 10 years of use.

Flip, they stay in place perfectly. No issues with them drooping or sagging over after 3 years. The one's sold at some of the large volume part places are not of the same quality. Spend the extra $20 or so and get pair that last a long time.

Posted by: zonedoubt Jan 19 2011, 04:55 PM

No flipping or flopping on the ones I bought from CocoMats. They are heavy and stay put. Plus they smell nice.

These mats are awesome...and do not move a bit. Well worth every penny. Only downside is you need a few exra horsepower--they are heavy.

I ordered Sisal mats in a brown color that I thought would match my (brown/mahogany) interior. IMHO, they look like they could be OEM. Very happy with the quality and fit.

Red and black

So after much research and comparing on a few sites, I finally found something I'm happy with.

I got red with white dot Cocomats to match the paint on my car. Mats were custom fit and fit perfectly. Passenger side mat goes up a couple inches, not all the way up in the foot well where it can sag over. Mats have rubber spikes (or whatever you call them) on the bottom so they don't slide. Very happy with they way they look.

I had them in a daily driver for about a year. They ate the rear part of my right shoe. It looked like I used a wire brush on it.

I was afraid of that. I have some very nice, very expensive shoes. But there's a large rubber pad in my mat where feet go. I'm hoping that will be protection enough. It's something I'll always be very conscious of anyway.

Those look very nice with the tan interior! Just a few shades lighter from the carpet, it gives a nice contrast to the interior. smile.gif

Posted by: mepstein Apr 12 2014, 09:35 AM

I bought my pair from Garald at Hershey for $ 20. No brainer. I had some stains in the oem carpet so the mats worked perfectly.
