be careful not to appount one person as the one who collects the hotel room costs.

how safe will the cars be overnight - while sleep is happening ??

jim

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 10 2009, 08:53 PM

Cars will be very safe. I scouted the hotel and set up the deal with the rooms. No pre registration, the rates are good until the hotel fills up.

Hi guys,

I am closing in on the end of robotics build season...two more days.
Till then I get 15 minutes to eat dinner after work (cant touch this site at work) and then home at 10 pm, and crash.

I will add more real data next week when we ship the robot off to the competition...I get two weeks of no robot...woohoo.

More to come,
I will get some details about the autox,,,,the concours, a few more details of some of the weekend that we can put on the web site.

Stay tuned...maybe we can convince George Hussey to do something special..also Jake Raby...who knows

I will make more progress next week.

Meantime, I am DD my 914 in all the crappy weather here...loads of fun..

Rich

I'm in. Hershey is nearly in our back yard. Advise if I can arrange a group photo. I've taken many groups there. One group shot got a 2 page spread in Pano. I do have a few connections.

Let me know.

some of us are busy dude....go shovel some snow....laugh.gif

I will deal with this sunday...one more long day of robotics tommorow.
It runs, it drives (as of 11pm tonight) and we are off to testing all day tommorow at another school...so that will mean breaking and fixing all day.

This is a 914 community event being organized by Rich (r towle) Zach (Vacca Rabite) Ray (rmital) and Mike (Dr Evil)

The event is posted all over the place. Some guys hang, here some guys hang out on Pelican and others lounge over on the club site and NARP. I mostly hang here. I really don't have time to check every site everyday.

The web site will have a contact persons email listed soon.

Why do I know this? Cause one of the kids that helped with the video link posted in my signature space is working on the web site for us.

Posted by: degreeoff Feb 15 2009, 11:24 AM

will there be power at the site? reason I ask is I may be able to bring my scissor lift to assist with tire changes?

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 15 2009, 12:08 PM

99.9% no. It is in a parking lot. You will have to bring a generator, unless we can tap into a parking lot light, but I bet they would not like that.

Posted by: eimc Feb 15 2009, 07:33 PM

I have a Honda 2000 generator I use at the track. Let me know and I will throw it in my trailer. (Is usually in trailer but in winter storage) Paul biggrin.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 15 2009, 07:43 PM

Cool!

Posted by: r_towle Feb 15 2009, 07:54 PM

I would be willing to bet that someone would get a hair across their ass if they see a scissor lift at the autox.
If its PCA, I bet the safety guy would get involved.

If you are talking about the parking lot at the hotel, its probably your liability if someone gets hurt.

Standard floor jacks work great...one side at a time.

Just tried to reserve a room at the Palmyra and the cheapest rate they have online for the 914World group is 69.95. Not sure if all the rooms they had at the $60 rate are gone already or what the story may be.

At any rate, can't wait to get there and see all the fun 914s! Where I live there probably isn't another 914 in 75 miles. piratenanner.gif

Call back.

Ask for thier "best rate" for the given day. Do not mention online sales. I bet you do better.

Zach

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 16 2009, 11:45 AM

I'll call them. The price you got was their normal price, not our discount. dry.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 16 2009, 11:49 AM

Nozzle, if you are Jack then you payed the extra $9.95 because you got the two queen beds. One king bed is $60.

Posted by: degreeoff Feb 16 2009, 12:14 PM

Booked a room, $59.95 a night. Its on baby! Is there anything else we need to do so far as PCA is concerned? I KNOW we are going to be strong enough in number to need another parking lot for AutoX......

You're right on the money Zach. Called them back and they gave me the group rate instead. I had to cancel my online reservation as well to make it work.

Note to all - You will NOT get the group rate if you made a reservation onine! confused24.gif

This will be my 5th year in a row. Always a good time rain or shine. This was the only time my car has been taken out in the rain. Someone always need a parking lot repair, and it makes it all the better and something for us to swarm around. I hope to make it to the autoX this year. I feel important with the RED THREAD. why red?? Zach, glad to hear another PA car is in the area and back on the road. I hope you can open the garage door to bring it (poke.gif Dr. Evil ).

Hey Clay,

If you can get someone to hold the parts for you, you can get boxes probably in town to pack up the items. Register for a personal Fedex account, and they will pick up the boxes from whomever holds the parts for you.

We have done this before, and save 10-15% on shipping cost. Fedex will show up at the location of the boxes with labels for each box.

Just an idea!

I'm on the list twice, so unless there are two of me I'm planning to be there only once! Maybe I'm planning on having twice the fun?

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Apr 2 2009, 07:34 AM

Well, this morning I decided to pull the plug on my plans to have my car at the Hershey.

The unexpected brake system failures cost me two weeks, and this a-arm mess is going to cost me another two weeks at least. Between now and Hershey I also have my son's first birthday to plan and put on, end of semester MBA projects coming due, finals to study for, a major work project due, and exterior house projects that need to start in order to keep peace at home.

This decision depressed the hell out of me on my commute into work this morning, as I was really excited about showing my car; but its better then burning out and letting more important home, work, and school tasks suffer.

I'm still looking forward to the event, and hope to see you all there!

Zach,
I can fix that stuff in a day or less if you get the brake caliper for me. I am not sure if my bus will make it either as it depends on your availability to weld in the battery tray, the tranz mount, and the seat mount for the driver. If you are OK with we doing the welding on the seat and the tray, I can do it while you are home and then all you need to do is the mount welding and I know how to prep it so you just come out, zap it and its done.
Dont give up hope. I too have too many damn things planned. This next weekend is my last as there is a wedding and then the event.

Matt, I am not sure. I know you can sign up on the day of.

Zach,

Do you still need a caliper? Did you get a control arm? Control arm should change in an hour or so, Caliper and bleed the brakes another hour.

If you have the parts.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Apr 2 2009, 03:42 PM

Caliper is on. I was well taken care of on that front. Initial pressure bleed is done, but I need to do another round as the pedal is still mushy.

I do not have an A Arm yet, but Mike knows where I can get one. I can call Steve at Aircooled Racing and see if he has one too, but I want to check Mikes source first.

It all boils down to time.

An amusing aside. When I gave up on the car (for hershey) I decided that I'd just help Mike get the bus on the road. Mike called me at lunch to tell me that he had given up on the bus (for Hershey) to get my 914 on the road. Ha!

OK maybe you guys can help me with this...

I am planning on bringing the display and trailer and selling DVDs. Mainly gonna selling Super Speeders DVDs. superspeeders.com

If I don't sell anything it's not a big deal. If I make enough to cover the trip and gas then I will be happy. If I walk away with enough to purchase a GTS seat while I am there then I might pee my pants in excitement!!! haha

ON TO THE PROBLEM...
Anyways the only problem is there is almost no porsche content in the super speeders DVDs.

So I am going to bring some other DVDs that are porsche related to sell as well.

I have a list so far of one title Le Mans. Great DVD by the way. I have probably watched the last 15 mintues of that movie 30 times. I shouldn't have any problem selling 30 copies.

Thats all I have so far so if anyone knows of any others I should bring please let me know. confused24.gif

Bump/

Someone had emailed me about riding down together. That might be fun if people want to meet up somewhere in NJ to drive down. I wasn't planning on leaving til around 6pm. Maybe others are leaving earlier?

If not at least we are all going to the same place and the bar should be open right?

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Apr 10 2009, 12:43 PM

Well, I got the new a arm on the car, and just got the last bits I need to finish that job in the mail a few moments ago (Thanks for the speedy ship, Auto Atlanta!) I still need to get aligned, and my car is not road legal as PA is dragging on getting me my title. But, I bought a hitch for my Subaru, and a tow bar for the 914. I can't think of a reason aside from torrents of rain or illness that my car would not make it.

I'm excited for this, and it is comming up SOON!

I can only make it up for the day, until around 3 or 4pm. Should I still park in the 914 section/corral?

I also have a practically complete parts car(garaged) just west of Philly in case anyone needs anything, wants to buy it whole or pick-a-part on their way to or from the event. I'll put it in the classifieds(didn't mean to plug it here, just a public service for those going right past me that weekend). I won't be able to haul the whole thing up there but may have a truck load of parts if I can get some time to strip it.

If you're not too concerned with what the concours judges will mark you down on idea.gif , you can have them and I'll bring them to Hershey.

We will definitely be there with our 914 (as long as nothing happens to it before then), but since we do not know a definite time we are leaving on Saturday we will have to pass on dinner but will see everyone at the swap, and we might come over to the hotel on Friday night if we get in early enough. We are staying in Harrisburg, and hope to eat dinner at our fav Hershey pizza and beer place. So we can cruise over to the gang's hotel afterward.

Thanks guys for working with us!

OK, just signed up--sorry to be so late (I hope it's not closed out) . . . just got back in town after a 300+mile 2-day "test"--the 914 didn't start only once in two days--so it looks like we're going to drive it up from Yorktown VA if you have room for two more people . . .

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I have to agree with Ray if you are going to sell stuff you need to be in by 6:30. I have never waited too long to get in they are pretty organized. Do we have a reserved area for 914 parking in the lot or can we get someone to park at the end of two rows so we can fill in the spots as people arrive. I guess I missed the late hang out last year. My wife was 8 months pregnant and was in no mood to hang. We are leaving the kid with the inlaws so hopfully we should be able to hang this year.

The swap opens at about 6:30 am for loading.
I will be there at that time.

The parking in the concours area is first come first serve.
If you, wilchek, would like to stand in the paking lot and save two rows, I would be happy to get you a nice orange vest so people an see you.

I will be happy to meet anyone who wants to move to the event in a group at the Palmyra Motel. I second 8:30 to give people time to arrive at the palmyra from other points of origin. I'm not worried about missing a couple parts transactions in the first hour of the swap meet.

So meet us at the Palmyra! Were rolling out at 8:30 am. We have a conversation going in the planning thread about this and are working to enlist help at the gate to get everyone directed to the same area.

Posted by: okieflyr Apr 22 2009, 10:58 AM

Mike,

My wish to sell list includes a 901 trans, conversion clutch/plate,console guages, Boxster shift cables.
Since technically I'm space squatting on the generosity of others, I can adjust my footprint to whatever it needs to be.
But knowing the selling starts early, that's what I'd like to be prepared for as well.

Dukes is always a good bet. Its on the 422 just after Lingle and is a bout 5mi or less from the hotel. They also have a large parking area.

Ya'll figure out what time you are meeting. I will likely be in my garage down the street with Zach either messing with his car or making bolts to sell. smile.gif

I can't bring my 914 (no engine) but I will be bringing my 911 on Saturday. What do I have to do so I can park it with the other tail draggers?

Posted by: crash914 Apr 23 2009, 05:14 AM

Mike, bumper, check..
are you going to bring it or should we swing by the house?

Posted by: ArtechnikA Apr 23 2009, 05:39 AM

CPA-PCA finally got me my space assignments - i'll be in D76-78.

I expect that's *way* off the beaten path since my (early) space request never made it through the routing process like it should have...

So drop on by and say Hi - I'll be wandering throughout the day too, since I don't really have anything available for immediate sale...

Dr. Evil / Zach ?!? I'm planning on bringing as many little parts as I can cram into the nooks and cranny's of blackie; fuel tank sensor, TPS's, distributor, door handle, with key (if I can find it). Biggest part will most likely be 1.7L heads unless Zach still needs a trailing arm! If you don't have enough table space I think I can make a card table out of blackie's 'T-top' biggrin.gif .

Posted by: 914rrr Apr 23 2009, 06:04 AM

Update: We will not be bringing the 914. So if anyone needs us to help tote back some parts they buy, let us know.

Posted by: sixerdon Apr 23 2009, 07:11 AM

My buddie and I will be heading down there tomorrow with a pickup truck full of early 911 and 914 parts. Although we are staying just down the street, we will swing by Palmyra to see what's going on for an evening of drink and BS. Looking for some decent weather and a big turnout for a change.

Were in Madison Wi for the night. We ended up in a construction zone. The road was so rough that it shook my power lead apart and the car quit right in the construction zone. I had three Madison squad cars behind me before I could figure out where my flasher switch was. I managed to talk them into helping me push the car into a parking lot where I could work on it. I lucked out and found the problem right away and with the assistance of a young female officer and her flashlight we were back on the road in 15 minutes. See you all there.

At the moment, I'll only be looking for a few things. Side shift cover and a good relay board cover.

My a-arm got fixed. My car will be there, functional but not yet road legal. Infact, it is 2/3 of the way there already. I dropped it off in Camp Hill PA ~ midnight last night for an alignment.

I'll be bringing 4 nearly new Vredstat Sprint 165 15 (or whatever the stock hard to find tire size is), my last unsold Rennshift 917 shift knob and maybe a few other things.

I'll try to remember to bring a relay board cover . . .

Also . . . is there a way to contact anybody up there just in case something were to happen to anybody on the trip in . . . not for help, as much as to provide status/where-abouts (like "we're outside Warrenton VA and the car is dead") . . . HEY quick question....

Mentioned a few pages back I think that I was gonna be bring DVDs to sell. I have a big LCD screen with stand that I was gonna bring as well.

Do they have power in the parking lot? Maybe off the street lights or something? I didn't even think about this.

I kinda have to bring all that stuff and they don't have power for the big screen. I forget how big it is maybe 42 inches??? Picking it all up in the morning.

The rules.

Ya can't sell food, no stakes inthe asphalt, THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY.

You can bring a generator, and all the Big Guys do, but be mindful of your neighbors.

The past couple of years (not this year) we have brought J's 17" HP laptop and run 'Le Mans' powered from an invertor and car battery. Works fine for the 3-4 hours we've done it.

but a laptop is not a 42" HDTV ... I can loan you my invertor but you'd be on your own for 12V. I think it's a 400W invertor...

For all of ya'll, if you are bringing a few things then that wont be a problem, but remember we have only 4 spots and they are mainly for hanging out, sitting, drinking coffee, and BSing.

I'll have some space available... D77
I have one space to park the vehicle (donno yet if it'll be the Outback or the Titan...) and two for the EZ-Up. Predicted temps in mid-80's so a bit of shade will be A Good Thing... Anyway - if you just need some place to park something, drop by. I can't do your haggling for you but I'll be glad to point a buyer in your direction...

Plans have yet changed again. The wife has a cold/flu and we may not make it.

If anyone is intereseted...we are looking for bumper top pads that need work. No broken or rusted frames. Call us if you find any at the swap and we will work something out with you. 727-483-0260.

It won't.
There will be 1000 EZ-Ups on 10 acres.
What are the SPACE NUMBERS?

I just found one more thing scarier than the first problem. It happened again in down town Chicago! 60 mph traffic everyplace! you look for 5 lanes. I did a quck dash across 4 lanes of traffic and stopped on the side of the freeway barely wide enough for my car. This time it was the ignition wire. The effin roads are so rough the ride will shake your eye teeth loose! I had the car running in a mear minute but with semi's and cars ripping by close enough to rip your door handles off it seemed like an hour! unsure.gif

Should be all you have to do is ask the guys directing traffic into the parking area that question...

It's all pretty low-key and everybody is really friendly and helpful. CPA puts on a really good event.

Worst-case, just park somewhere and when you find where you want to be, tell whatever volunteer worker is in that area you'd like to move your car there. They'll tell you what you have to do. Shouldn't be any issue.

They want to know that you're actually paying for parking (this event raises money for CPA and believe me, they have to pay to rent the space...) but once you're in, it's pretty much a non-issue.

Nice car.

Zach

We had a lot of fun, met a lot of people. The best part was the drive in, that was awesome. So we all got there 9ish and i left a little after 12:00. I didnt sit at all, just kept walking. The wife was tired, lack of sleep from the 2 nights prior. So we left. Next year i will stay longer.

Great time
nice to meet everyone

joseph

p.s. the good looking woman in my photos is my wife for those of you who did not meet us.

I had the time of my life,I saw more 914's than any other event that I have been

too. The irony is that there were more in the parking lot than we had. If those

914's were with us it would been a 100 or more.

If are reading this and weren't there this yr. , please be there next yr. smash.gif

Loved meeting everyone, and sorry I did not get to meet all the people.
We did the AutoX today...that was alot of fun.
Small group of diehards stuck it out.

The room starts to fill...

We had 42 people pre-register, 45 settings were placed, and there were no empty chairs. At some points, it was standing room only.

Lots of black and tans...

And thats all I got.

Now, to get my car re-dismanteled, fix the unfixed, and get it driveable by September....

But, it made it to the Mid Engine Invasion!

Rick it was a great pleasure to finally meet you and Sandy.
Thank you for making the time to drive all the way out for the event.
I am very glad you made it home..that must have been a very long day.
Seems you left at O Dark thirty.

Now, start thinking of a good reason to drag my sorry ass out there for an event in the middle...have a middle midengine invasion...

I will be the cheerleader on the team.

Black and tans were 5.50 each while a 0.5 litre Franziskaner (German, so you know it's good) was only 3.75. It's a wheat beer, a good summer beer for summery weather (90+ degrees).

GREAT TIME! thanks to Rich, Mike, and Zach for setting it up! Funny thing happened on the way home from the .... my car pee'd on me! At one point on trip home, i knocked my coffee cup complete upside down - coffee gurgled into the tunnel near the defroster handle. I got it turned right side up but too late for a good spill. I drove straight to my kids baseball game and parked in full sun with the top off. An hour later when I started the car up - a water like liquid dripped onto my shins from beneath the dash. My guess is the coffee soaked into the spedometer cable and heat and sunlight forced it up via capilary action (?) into the dash and it spilled out later. .. perhaps I shouldn't have admitted this story biggrin.gif

Had a great time. I really enjoyed the drive to Hershey with the East Coasters. That was by far the fastest I have driven on RT78 ever. It was really cool to caravan with 5 914's in a pack.

I've never seen so many Porsches and NARPs in one place. I walked many of the isles and still didn't see them all.

It was easy to tell that the 914 owners have had the most fun with their cars as the 914s were the most modified and diverse looking vehicles there.

2 cars I wanted to see were there: Zach's and Rick Ollah's cars. After all of Zach's "fun" building his car, it was good to see it in one piece. I've never seen so much engine stuffed into so little space as Rick's car. Plus a real Porsche V8 looked really cool in the engine compartment.

Hopefully next year I'll be able to bring my 71 914.

biggrin.gif it was truly a great event and i did my best to have the car ...rich, mike, zack, and rick what an inspiration in both the love of the car and the fact he came the farthest.....words to describe the event...." i got what i wanted" "where is everyone ?" drooley.gif drooley.gif drooley.gif i have some pics

Posted by: MikeSpraggi Apr 28 2009, 05:02 AM

This was by far the best Hershey swap meet I have been to. I have never seen as many 914's in one place at the same time. Oh yeah, there were some 'other' Porsche models there too ...... they were cool. It's amazing the '14 has lived sooo long with so much enthusiasm from their owners as was evident at the meet. Many mods ranging from mild to wild. I don't think there will ever be another Porsche like it.

Anyways a real big thanks to Rich, Zach,Mike for putting together a great event and this should be a yearly gathering for the teeners.

Jim,
Yes it is, although additional info may be helpful to you to better understand the shot you have here. It is a few years old. The road that we drove in on that wrapped around the Giant Center Arena now dips down into the golf course (now closed). The parking area inside has greatly expanded. So, we actually parked appx. where it says "W. Derry Road" (the most left of the two where it says that) across from an old Milton Hershey School farm house that appears as a dot on your shot. I've shown it clearer on my attachment to give you a better idea.
Hopefully that helps

Thanks you guys....twas a great time and was nice to meet many of you. Chaitra even admitted to not to dull a car event...that is saying alot! Also the auto cross was a blast...super fast course with an average speed (for me anyway) of 44 mph over 6 tenths of a mile. Not beat my chest but the sticky R6's put me @ 4th or 5th out of 94 cars.......:-) Now if I can heal my engine we'll be golden.....

Next year I do look forward to.

Zach, Ray said he tooks pic's ..hopfully he'll post here too.

AutoX was fun but 'lasted too fast' - only one heat of four runs for each of us. would have been nice to run two heats.

Root - you left that red chair in Hershey? I can't (well I really can) freaking believe you left it behind again. You've tried to lose that chair at least twice already. ECC07 and the barbeque we had last summer. That chair has nine lives!

Chair's not mine! chair.gif just the hoodie yo!

Carlisle's still a maybe for me, business is booming and I'm working weekends a bit!

I need to hire another full time employee, someone who has a basic knowledge of
machine tools, interested in fabricating one-off prototype electro-mechanincal devices. They need to be able, willing, and motivated to attend classes or already have a knowledge in automated multi-axis milling and lathe programing.
Experience with powdered metal processing would be a big plus! Salary depends on
experience level..... health benee's, and 401K, (serious inquiries only).

The Red chair is mine. At least I think it was red. We just bought them at Wallmart in Palmyra. Sandy was sitting on it at the tent but I had to run her back to the motel to work on her Masters project. So it's a gift from us to use meng. biggrin.gif
