This was posted on the Pors-chev site and thought I'd pass it on. A couple of us V8 conversion junkies are planning a get together in the Atlanta area. All 914/911 owners are invited.
"After talking with some of the local people. Lets all get together on March 20 at the HOOTERS at Cumberland mall at 12:00 am on Saturday . This is in the center of a strip mall parking lot and a easy to find location not far from the north I-285 /75
junction. I'll even buy lunch for the person traveling the farthest to get there."

John
I'll be there... Probably in my 912. I'll be in stealth mode that day....
(Shades, ball cap etc.)
be there, 944, 914's not street worthy
Is a side trip to AA on the itinerary?
DaveP
If it is I'm wearing Kevlar... Those guys really LOVE me! think it would be fun to show up down there... I'd probably get a police escort!
Glad to see others are going to make it. We considered a visit to AA and might just show up. There's only so much titts, ass and cold beer a guy can stand in one day. This might break add a little more variety to the gathering. As close as I live to Atlanta, I have never been. Viewing his collection might be worth the trip.
Jack, I'm sure you would not be the first to have a police escort out of there : ) Look forward to meeting you all.
John
BTW. I think AA closes early on Saturdays -- 1:00 or 2:00PM as I recall.
And I assume you mean Noon and not Midnight to meet at Hooters...
Sounds like a road trip for my V-8. 928 that is. Best 5 hour one-way I can think of spending.
I'm in.
Can we put this on the 914 Club Calender?
Keep me informed. I have not been visiting the site lately.

Would be greart to know which members live in the Atlanta area. I couldn't find a place on this ste to search for location.
Yes we need a head count for the Atlanta area group. I know of 4 people that have not chimed in yet. Here or on the Porschev groups.
Bob
I'm in, will drive the Audi. Teener is apart.
An Atlanta meeting sounds like fun.
Any chance of waiting until the weekend of May 1?
The HSR Walter Mitty races will be going on at Road Atlanta. It would be a fun place to meet, and see some 914's in action.
Tommy
I'll come. There is a chance that my car will be back together by then. Still trying to decide whether to convert to carbs.
We created a area on the clubsite for "events" in the northeast. If you guy's think we should do this for you also.. it would help you identify who was in your area. Sooner or later we will have a searchable area for each state. We have been gathering the info for over a year now.. but have not set up the actual page that will search the database.. (free site..volunteers running it...)
Let me know. It only takes a few minutes to set up a new are for you.
Oh.. the calender is FREE. Anyone can post anything to the calender.
B
Tommy,
Bob and I have had several conversations about setting this date and where to meet and thought about calling for votes to see if this weekend would work for everyone interested. We have observed similar planned events go out for vote and it never seems to work for everyone, so we came up with a date and location. Several have already commited to coming and to make this easy for everyone who has already made plans, we will stick with the original March 20 date. Maybe next time or next year we can tie this to a road atlanta event.
John
If it stays on March 20, I'll probably show up. I'll be in town anyway.
Think anyone will beat 550 miles? Free lunch for me!
Sounds like fun but I won't be home untill mid april so I'll miss it,
Maybe we can do it again.
Think anyone will beat 550 miles? Free lunch for me!
Only if you re driving the teener. Hope to top that in April bringing my car from Wa. state.
Trying to keep the calendar clear for Mar 20.
Barring some shift in the space time continuum, there's pretty much zero chance that I'll have a teener running by then, but John didn't say anything about having a teener present to get lunch!
Going from WA to MS in April? May as well stretch the route to at least clip FL while you're at it. That way, you can say you drove the car all the way across the country diagonally from Washington to Florida. Bragging rights, ya know?
Might even be farther than Joan's (jarbuthnot) trip from Oregon to Maine?
ttt
We should have a get together here at my shop sometime over the summer....
Not many guys get to come see the operation, but its always nice to show off what we have!
Come see what we do on our farm! (My shop is located in a pair of renovated barns LOL)
I'm only an hour from Atlanta, much more scenery and two different mountains to go carve away at! My Favorite is Blood Mountain- its NASTY!
Ok Jake you volunteered. Now the question is what day this summer?
-David
You pass my shop on the way to Helen... never even know it!
Lemme look at my calendar..
same weekend as the NASCAR race. wife wants to go to a race and see The UPS car crash.
John and Joe, the wife and I will be attending. We're coming up Friday, after work, and staying with a friend of ours in Atlanta. All three of us will be there for the lunch.
How many wives/girlfriends are attending?
John, I'm so looking forward to seeing your car. It is because of your success that I've decided to do the V8 conversion.
Joe, I'm looking forward to seeing you again also, so we can talk about the burnt one.
Looking forward to seeing more of the 914Club members. This BBS ROCKS.
Push it back one weekend and I might be able to show up with a 914. The current weekend scheduled I have to do a Driver's school here in town. Gotta teach a team of FSAE people to drive. If jake wants to open his shop this summer that would be cool. Yes the roads north of Atlanta around Helen are some of the best twisties in the country. Good passing lanes, and fresh pavement. I hope to get a real job this summer and have my chassis fixed and be driving again.
hey BIGKAT, recognize this restaurant?
i bought my 914 in tacoma and drove it back to fl.. had family in cleveland, tn., so i thought i'd cruz through helen on my way home. coming down from tenn. i missed a turn and stumbled on an amazingly twisty road over a mountian pass, i'm wondering if this is the blood mountian you guys are talking about. MAN!!! that was a treat after driving the interstates for a few days. and jake you live near this road?!? WOW!! yep, musta drove right past your shop. i'd love to come up to jake's in the summer and drive that road again!!
hey, I know that restaurant. Downtown Helen. Never eaten there though.
Just a reminder of our first Atlanta gathering. Have had several PMs wanting to know if this was a show, who could come, v8 converted cars only etc.
To clarify. Anyone interested with or without a Porsche is invited. Don't have to drive car to attend. This is just a opportunity for those of us with similar interests to share our wares and BS about cars.
So far I've been contacted by folks coming from Ga., SC, LA. and Fla.
I'm leaving Augusta, Ga. via I-20 if anyone wants to caravan over.
John
Another Indiana guy that just might show up!
I'll be in Dunwoody this weekend which looks very close to the meeting place. Would love to see a V8 914 - it is very tempting to put a SBC in my 914. Kinda got a passion for Chevrolets and 914s.
Its getting closer!!!
I might even be able to take teh teener down if Brad gets my suspension goodies here in time... after that all it will need is paint.
That restaurant is the Hofbrauhaus.... I'm only 4 miles from it, nestled up in the woods off my own road.... I'm spoiled.
Just received news that a couple of v8 911s and 944s will attend as well.
John
when i was at the hofbrau restaurant. there was a guy making deliveries, he said there was a guy in town that had a silver 914. said he worked at the town hall, i think it was. i went by there but didn't see his 914.
wish i could attend, maybe in the summer.
doug
is this still a go? Should be more fun than laying brick on the work shop wall.
Jake,
If you host a gig at your place this summer...count me in...all the way from Missouri...
Ed
OK I'm on the way. See ya there.
On the way...............

Had to buy Toy-jet lunch. He drove from Houston TX. Well worth the price of crab legs to see this LS6 powered superchared 911. This thing is HOT!!!!
And he has a 914 LS6 to More pix to follow

ein6er,
That silver 914 is owned by a customer of mine! He owns a restaurant right next to city hall and parks it there! It has a 150HP 2056 in it! Its nasty!

May be the sign says it ALL

500 miles away from home on vacation and got lucky enough to attend this gathering. AWESOME CARS! And, John2kx was kind enough to take me for a ride in his black V8 car. Thanks John! I hope that I didn't leave permanent grip marks on the door handle!
V8 914s are impresive!!! I am gonna be spending some time on the Renegade Hybrids website The V8 is now very tempting.
Great bunch of guys at the gathering. Glad to have the pleasure to meet you all.
I just blew in from Atlanta. What a blast! ........and my first road trip since putting car on the road 18 months ago.
No problems encountered coming or going and the weather was perfect. Checked my fuel milege with GPS on the way up and was surprised to see 20 mph running 70-75mph at about 3400-3400 rpm.
Hope we can do this again and the idea of doing it at Jakes' place is sounding better all the time. His location would make for better test rides. The area of town we were in was very congested.
Have to run but just want to say once again to all the guys who showed up, it was nice meeting each and everyone of you.
Pics in the next 24 hrs. or so.
John
I had a great time, but my question is................ARE THERE ANY RUNNING AIR COOLED CARS IN ATLANTA?????????????????? If it wasn't water cooled, it wasn't there!
Hmmmm, big HP good! Smoking tires cool! Need to rethink my 1.8, non running 1.8.
Good job guys.
Heck yeah, lets do it here sometimein the fall..
I can show ya'll around my farm. Test rides are no sweat here, plenty of backroads and few county mounteys... Heck, I know them all anyway!
maybe by then I can have mine up and running with all the suspension upgrades and it might even have paint on it by then.
We could take a trip across blood mountain so you guys can give those suspensions the same work out that I give mine atleast once a week... beware though, not many guard rails are left intact up there... I have bought 4 so far myself!
wish I could have made it down!
I just put up some http://www.oxblue.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=914v8hooters.
If anyone else has some pictures and wants me to host them, let me know and I'll put them up.
Nice to meet everyone and put names (or nics ;-)) with faces. Up to this point I've been a lurker spending countless hours scouring the postings on this message board. I installed a 327 SBC in a 74 914 about 8 years ago and have not driven it for quite some time. Now i have a nice new shiny radiator from renegade sitting in the garage, waiting to get the beast back on the road.
-bryan
Man set a date and lets do it.
I would be interested in coming to your next meet too. My 914 is not running nor is it close to running at the moment, but if there is one this summer sometime I would maybe be able to bring it down. Let me know a date and I will work my butt off to get it ready to come down.
JP
Looks like a nice event. I wonder if it was Bill's LE my son & I saw in Nashville last spring. It was heading North (fast) and we were going the other way.
755 miles in a real Porsche. OK OK it is water cooled and a V-8 but still all Porsche.
On the way up ran with two chicks in a Mustang. spent 30 - 40 mintues over 100 MPH and a few spurts past 125. still made 17 MPG. Don't think I ran much below 85 or 90 all day.
A/C and AC/DC blasting. Glad I put on the speed sort of forgot the Right Coaster time zone thing.
Anyway great to see some of the Club members. Those Por-Chevs are damn cool. Nothing like getting the Hooter girls attention with all that horse power and liting up some rubber.
And the best thing NO TICKETS I think I will ride my Bicycle to work Monday just in case.
I wanted to thank John for putting on the 1st annual Spring Southeast 914
Club meeting. This was a great occasion to finally put a face and car to
all of the very helpful members. The weather was perfect, clear skies and
temp around 80. Robin and I drove from Tampa, FL Friday and spent the night
at a friend's house, Yvon. We arrived around 11:30 and met John, Bob and
Bob. Of all the Porsches that made the meeting, there was not one air-cooled
machine. We stayed until 3:00 pm. Robin and Yvon were the only women that
stayed. After we left, Robin told me that the waitress was 'pissed'. I
asked her why and she said that "I've been to this table about 20 times and
not one of the guys paid any attention to me, they were all out looking at
the cars." Go figure, the girl was jealous of the cars. Here's a list of
everyone that attented (if I left anyone out, let me know and I'll add your

Hey, wait a minute.... I arrived with a porsche and I think the only one under its own porsche power, still water cooled, but porsche none the less, The blue one....
Waitress was pissed? Hmm, Well I looked at her butt Guess I should have stared.
d914 Oh there were 1 1/2 of them all Porsche cars at the meet, my 928 stock V-8 and then the 4 banger aka 944.
I just love this board and the fact ya'll tolerate me till I get my yellow teener. two weeks to go
I would definately like to go to you guys next get together. When you guys decide a date definately post it. I just got my tags and insurance today for my 914. This was the first time I have really driven a 914. I'm addicted
Jakes not kidding about blood mountain. When I was going over to his place my gf was gripping the arm rest and the oh shit handle the whole time over the mountain and that was in a chevy blazer. Then again it was me driving
John
Roads in north GA mountains are some of the best anywhere. Before this 914 life I would ride sportbikes 5/6k miles a year just in that area. The trip up 129 to the top of Blood mountian is a good ride but too wide open to be fun. The police have really got bad on that section of road.
We liked to go east over to Clayton and then into the western corner of South Carolina/North Carolina.
Looks like Jake and I have the home court advantage.
