Please help us to keep our VIN Database up to date!
You can add as many VIN numbers to our database as you like
You can also search the database using various criteria like year, type and even color.
The database can be found here:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=membervins
In order to add a new VIN, simply click on the "ADD a new VIN ..." link.
The section "Your Own VINs:" will show all VIN numbers you entered.
You can edit your VINs by clicking on the number itself.
We'd like to record as much info about each car as possible
The list includes:
- VIN
- Details: Parted out or crushed? Factory GT or m471? Sportomatic?
- Engine Number
- Chassis Number (Badge on drivers side front door jamb and stamped into rear trunk floor)
- Build-Date (Sticker on drivers side rear door jamb)
- Paintcode (Badge on drivers side front door jamb)
- Current color if different from original
- A picture link (Please do not link to eBay or craigslist pictures!)
- Any comments or info on the car you'd like to share
Parts cars
If you have records of cars that you have come across in junkyards or cars that you parted out, please add those to the list as well and mark them "is she dead? crushed? cut up? rusted away?".

Andy
someone needs to come by and look at our over 200 parts cars and titles and record every one and add them to the data base. It will certainly take all day. Any volunteers?
This will be a major project for sure, and quite a valuable one.
Before you go, please contact me regarding a few details that might be useful to check out.

found that on wsrp...not sure how up-to-date it is.
Last update in 2010
A few inaccuracies.
How does one edit information on a VIN that I currently own but is shown as being owned by someone else?
Rob Mairs
If Dr 914 puts me up in some accommodation and pays the air fair I'll come to Atlanta and do the audit on all the 914 cars and motors.
I'm bores shitless and need a job.
Is there a better way to add yet recorded VIN's/cars that you dont own?
For instance cars that you spy dead in a bone yard.
Right now you have to record them associated to ...ME, & notate that they have no affiliation ?
I can't seem to get my info to update. I went to put in the paint/engine/chassis stuff, but it doesn't stick. I hit [Update My VIN] and when I look at it afterwards, there's only the same VIN info that's been there forever.
I even tried in a different browser... is it busted, or am I doing something wrong?
VIN Search. My first car was a 1973 914 2.0. I sold it in 1982 and believe I have again found the car. Unfortunately, I no longer have my former car's VIN. I have the VIN of the car I found and would like to obtain a VIN search that shows where the car has been registered throughout its life.
Does anyone know where I can obtain such a VIN search?
I found an error: there is a silver car listed with VIN 4762901552 which should have VIN 4762924483. The correct VIN is in the description.
Vin added no idea of build date, maybe some would know that from the VIN so I could update?,cheers to you Sir Andy for this database.
Would it be possible to add a location to the database so it would be easy to see what members and cars are located near you? Just a thought!
How do I move the VIN from SLIT's profile to mine?
Ty!
Hey guys,
Trying to register this 914 chassis but I get errors. Is it so rare and custom that not even the database is registering it?
Hello Everyone

Hey all,
My vin year does not seem to match my chassis number and paint color. Could the dealer have changed vin numbers? I don't know my engine number but I am sure it is a 4 cyl.
Thanks!
M
This is not mine.
Added 9141430300 to the database.
It was sitting in one of the lots at RSR VI
Original Euro 914-6.

Euro sixes didn’t come with “A” pillar VIN tags. This is a bad attempt to add one considering that perfect reproductions are available. Looks like it’s screwed into the dash top.
What about for sale ads that are not in the data base? For Example:

Bored working 12 hour shifts...
Today I went VIN hunting for this forum.
Could trace two new VIN´s of dead cars.
4732905250
4742914816
Location: North of Frankfurt/Germany. Sitting there for years, together with other 914´s that where parted out and left unprotected from the elements. Many good parts have been rotten away. Sad sight though.
The Karman Body-number in the door sill doesn´t make sense to me, any thoughts?

The black one seems like a good candidate for a Bumblebee Limited Edition!
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=104
.
Thanks, that makes sense. When enlarging the original photo it looks like they did´d set the stamping tool correct on that monday mornig at the karman factory.
And yes, it was a bumblebee most likely. But over the hill...

Sorry to bother you with this but I don't know how to list a VIN without it appearing in the database as mine.
Thanks
Steve
How do you edit / update a car that's already in the database? Mine shows the previous owner... well, it's now mine and the car is completely different!
4752911138 found on an BaT article from 2015 about rust on 914´s.
Hallo Harald,
wo steht der denn? Sieht auf den ersten Blick nicht ganz hoffnungslos aus?
(Where did you see this one?)

Found this one advertised for sale in Germany 06/2021. Unfinished restauration. Apparently 4x new fenders and a bin of parts.
4712914000
Thank you @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=24260
This car appears to have *real* 916 front and rear bumpers!
Those 916 style bumpers were quite popular here in Germany. Mostly seen on cars that were otherwise severely rusted and held together with tons of bondo.
Seller is asking close to 6k, considering the value of the 4 new fenders and the fact that it looks complete might be interresting for parts or an ambitious rebuilt.
For sale in Switzerland 06/2021. Early ´70-4 in original condition.

Another one, this time a "6":

Currently under restauration in Germany. PO had it stored for many years. Very little rust. On the Celette to check the front end due to a light hit in the past.
Not mine!
Cheers, Arno
Great finds there Arno! The 70 914/4 is the only AMAG 914 that I know of.

Looks like it was a junk yard rust bucket made into a vintage race car. Now it is a 914-6 GT tribute with a 2.4L in it....
Dead 75 914 looks to be a 1.8 in red. Parked in by a back yard in Michigan.

Late ´72. Not mine.
Hellhole patched up. Converted to carbs. Could need some (rust) attention.
VIN 4722921345 is already in the database, owner is a member here but inactive for over 10 years.

Used to be a blue (Marathon metallic?) car. In some areas rust had been patched up but might be good for a full restoration?
VIN R.I.P. (Rust in pieces)
I had the pleasure of meeting Frank Rattasid owner of 86 Auto Recyclers and Nineapart in Wroxeter, Ontario yesterday. Nineapart was dedicated to parting out only Porsche cars.
Frank is retiring and winding down the business. He closed Nineapart in January and he is closing 86 Auto Recyclers at the end of this June.
Frank has five 914s left in his 86 yard and he let me go through them for anything I may need (except for door handles and instruments/consoles). He charged me fair rates for what I took - it was not a fire sale ($450 for 2 targa tops, 4 popup motors, 2 turn light buckets and one rear glass). At the end of this week he said they will be crushed and sent out to be melted for scrap.
The cars are not rebuildable. The rust is extreme on all of them, one has even folded in half. No interior parts worth salvaging. Most are stripped bare, no seats or interior panels. Only three have engines.
I don't need anything from these cars - I didn't really need what I bought either, but I always wonder if there is something else that should be saved before they start a new life as a piece of re-bar in a bridge... Not much time left... Any suggestions if something should still be harvested for the future of the community before crushing?
It is safe to consider these VINs gone.

VIN 4732917401
Colorado Springs salvage yard for a little while longer.
https://upullandpay.com/search-inventory/vehicle?vin=47329174701&vinLocationId=5
Can't get the driver door open to check other plates. Currently black and very rusted. Some decent parts are being salvaged. Interior is almost all scrap, steel wheels, engine and FI still mostly there, trans just taken yesterday, trunk gone, front hood hit with a fork lift. Listed as a 74 on the lot, but VIN says 73.
Sad to see these go.

Hey @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=179 Ive a puzzler. Was contacted to perform a PPI on local car FS.
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/snoqualmie-1975-porsche/7613953509.html
Looked it up in the DB & it is listed but as a different car with no member name associated?
Andy, would you add this VIN to the graveyard?
Not mine, and not much left either.
- VIN: 4742904369
- Details: Sitting dead out behind the barn. Rusted and stripped. Likely used as a parts care so that another one could live on.
- Engine Number: not there
- Chassis Number: 959601
- Build-Date (Sticker on drivers side rear door jamb): 10/7x
- Paintcode: L99A, Delphi Green Metallic
Little in the way of parts remain. Every panel, if there, is rusted through or bent, usually both. It is a broken, rusted shell but not yet in the 914 VIN database.
Ouch. Ugly. VIN is a tad before mine and I think close to Big Len. Probably 10/73 DOT label.
Finally getting around to posting. All 3 cars were at the Nordstern Region's get-together at Maplewood (MN) Porsche on September 10, 2023.
First:
Talked to the owner for a few minutes; IIRC he said the car was relatively new to him. Car is listed in the CANAM/LE database. Amazingly clean for a car that appears to have spent it's whole life in MN...
Next:
Car is registered in Wisconsin and used mostly for autocross and other events. Carb'ed/mod'ed engine. Other mod's too as you can see from the frunk hood.
Neither car is in this site's database....
Finally, Scott Engebretson's '72:
This picture is from a Nordstern Region event earlier in the year. He was also at the September get-together (you can see his blue car parked behind the green one in the previous post).
Scott visits this site from time to time, but I noticed his car wasn't in our database...
FWIW, I didn't add any of these to the database as they're not "my cars."
9141430018 1971 Swapped in 3 liter. The original motor may be in Texas. The car has been in Brevard County, Florida since at least 1985.
