914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 914 Tie Rod Boot Replacement (turbo type)

Posted by: tomeric914 May 20 2009, 05:57 PM

My co-owned 914 track car project came with turbo tie rods already installed. The car sat for God knows how many years and had some (ok a lot of) issues.

The tie rods are tight (and German) but the boots were old and cracked...

So I removed the boots and cleaned out the old grease as best I could...

...and added new fresh grease

Here's the old boot and new Energy Suspension Polyurethane boots (part number 13105G for black or 13105R for red) available from Summit Racing and other places for about $5 a pair

Shown here installed...

While the boots fit tightly over the tie rod, they aren't clipped in place like the originals so only time will tell how effective these really are. For $5 though, it was a cheap and easy fix.

You're a racer .... run some safety wire around it and see if it holds in the groove.

Tried that but the boot is too thick. It's pretty tight as it is, not hermetically sealed but good enough.

That's the exact part I'm looking at. How has it been holding up?
