My 914 rear trunk area was cut out and replace with new tin I was installing
a rear OEM sway bar and it was hitting the heat shield for the muffiler in order
to get the sway bar in I had to remove it do I need to put it back in
I'm running a Sebring Exhaust system

You can warm food in the rear trunk with the shield inplace. It can get up to 125 in there.

I took mine off years ago and haven't had any problem with the trunk getting too hot

Then again, I don't have an engine in the car.....

why not wrap the muffler in heat wrap?

Remember, these cars were built for a price. If they could have left the shield off, they would have! I'd recommend replacing it.

Actually, there should be no need to remove the heat shield to install the bar.

You have to slide the bar in from one side between the heatshield and the trunk floor. It's a bit tricky at first, but it'll fit in there without any cutting.
