914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Are dash switches the same for all years?

Posted by: FourBlades May 21 2009, 10:50 PM

I tried to find this information by searching but no luck.

This must have been answered by someone before.

What are the differences in the headlight, hazard, fog lamp,
steering column, and other dash switches?

I really just need to know what years would be compatible
with a 73 wiring harness. My switches were all missing and
I have a set from a 71 wiring harness but I am not sure they
will work.

This wiring loom is giving me a headache...

1.) Headlight switch ... Two versions .. 10 pin and 11 pin ... your '73 would have more than likely used an 11 pin. The '71 would be a 10 pin.

2. Hazard, foglamp, heated rear window are all the same except for the color of the the insert on the foglamp and heated rear window.

3.) Windshield wiper switch ... on the dash for a '71 and part of the steering column switch on a '73.

4.) Cigarette lighter .... the same

5.) Heater controls ... believe they are the same except for trim.

I think there were also two versions of the hazard switch: a 6-pin (+ground) for the '70-''72 MY and a 7-pin (+ground) with a little diode soldered between two of the pins on the '73-'76 MY cars.
