Anyway to test an altenator without it being on the car? I know, dumb question.

What he said.

Tried that already. Autozone and NAPA both said their equipment wasn't designed to test the Bpsch altenator which is regulated externally.

You may have to go a little bit old school and find a generator/alternator repair shop in your area. I had to do the same with mine a couple of weeks ago. FLAPS couldn't test it with their rig and rebuilt unit would have been about $110. Generator shop in the area tested it, replaced the brushes and bearings for about $35. Check the yellow pages.

Check the junk yards in your area. Likely one of them has a rebuild business as part of the operation

Is there Advance Auto Parts in TN? Mine in VA has the connections to test an alt, not to say all AAP's can.
