How did you guys clean the plenum?

I got a free one @ swap meet. It has dust and shows some rust but only surface. Since I see no crack I plan to replace with the one on the car someday.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hot water and soap .......

or

Carb cleaner and then repaint

or

Parts washer if you have access to one

or

Hot tank at a machine shop

or

Why clean it?

Sorry, I should have emphasized that it has some rust inside and out.

How about blasting?

I wanna clean it because it wouldn't be cleaned another 35 years if it missed this chance.

Thanks!

I would get it blasted or soak it in a water/muriatic acid bath (CAREFUL!). I've seen them rust all the way through and then you have problems that will be hard to trace.

If you remove all the rust ,it no longer with be worthy of the name ( 914) it will

morf in to a Olds. or Buick Dynaflow.

As in it said ,so shall it be

Soda blast ...

Then check for cracks, especially around the through holes. That's one hard to find air leak ...

agree.gif Damn near tore my entire system apart looking for a vacuum leak and a crack in the through hole was the culprit.
