lol

it's the plate on the bottom of the sump on 73+ cars that came with factory installed oil temp gauges.

all engines have the spot for them, but the plates with the temp sender were for console (or, rarely, combo guages in the cluster) with oil temp... which started in 73...

They're those things under the tortillas, which are under the fish and cabbage. Watch it!, they're HOT! Quick, a deep slug of Bohemia'll take the pain away ...

remote temperature sensor

There you go. That "plate" is for an optional temperature sensor for use with a console gauge. The sensor goes in the hole in the plate. It's most often referred to as a "taco plate".

Posted by: ericread Jun 17 2009, 07:58 AM

So how exactly does the sensor fit into the "taco plate":

Why "taco"?

Posted by: mharrison Jun 17 2009, 09:47 AM

More importantly does anybody know of a source for these?

Why would a German car have a "Taco" plate? confused24.gif

Shouldn't it be a "streusal" plate? idea.gif Or maybe a "crepes" plate??? Or how about a "doberge cakes" plate???

I always love Taco Salad, when they make the big shell crispy and pile it high. Dont forget the corona w the lime sticking out of the top.

A guy by the name of Phil Eslin over on the samba makes them. It took me a while to find... but I was looking for some sort of replacement for the stock piece of crap taco plate. Because of its small size and design, I'm pretty sure the fins don't aid in cooling at all.

Is it just me or does the billet one actually look more like a taco plate with those ridges in it than the stock 914 "taco plate"?

I suggest posting a Want To Buy in the classified section as I don't think they are available new. I think Dr 914 has them in his catalog.

A shame really as good Mexican food is just that, very good! chowtime.gif

I just looked it up on my trusted German online dictionary, and it doesn't give me any results for Taco ...
