914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 5 lug rims with stock -4 brakes?

Posted by: tat2dphreak Jun 21 2009, 04:16 PM

I've been looking at rims a lot lately, since I really don't like the westerns I have...

I've thought of 4 lug fuchs and revolutions(if I could find any)... but I really like the 5 lug phone dials...

what would I have to do to use phone dials with my -4 brakes? redrill? spacers? adapters? what's needed.

my brakes are new, eric-shea rebuilt (beautiful) brakes, so I would hate to swap them for 911 brakes... headbang.gif

I'm doing that exact set-up... all 7 inch phone dials. If you use 914-6 front struts and get drilled rear hubs you can use stock brakes.

putting 7/16 dials on right now.
YOU WILL NEED NEW REAR BEARINGS
Drill hubs/rotors. Brakes fit.

My 73 i used billit adapters in the front, hub centric. Rear should be together tomorrow if my bearings show up. 1 inch spacer in the front will rub the strut dust covers in the front with 205's. I am going to use 1 1/4 spacers in the back. You should wait and i'll check all my fitment tomorrow night I hope.

The bolt on solution from Eric.

kit for early car, that uses stock brakes:

then when you're ready to change your front rotors, you'll need to get the redrilled front rotors:

As long as you don't warp the rotors, you should be good for a few years. =o)

Still need spacers for the 16" phone dials. They are the late offset.

late '72, everything is 73+ on the front end. it'll be more than I want to bugger with right now... I need to get it 100% on the road then I'll worry about this down the line. thanks all for the input tho. I haven't looked at swapping to 5 lug... seems like 3 options tho. that's good biggrin.gif

Late offset? would that be the same offset as the wheels in my pictures?

(I used one inch in front, and 8mm in rear; they have two different offsets and widths)

Try the 21 mm spacers , I got a set that I mocked up , put on one of my 7 X 15 52mm offset Phonies , ( it has 215 / 60 / 15 tires on them , came with the wheels ) cleared my driver's side rear , disconnected the spring / strut , put on a spare strut with no spring , jacked it up as far as the strut allowed , still didn't rub , not a lot of room left , but did not rub when turned . This was on a arm that is being converted to 5 lug , so I put on rotor , spacer , wheel , no problems. No fender pulling , although a PO had ground / cut the lip down which wouldn't be real hard to do if needed.
Check them out , they sometimes can be had cheap.
