Sorry Zach. No Flickr video. YouTube has a fairly simple way to customize which video you're embedding. Flickr is a little more complex and would be more complicated to do and remember.

Driver is Keith Peare. He's running a 2.8L. Thats all I know. Found his stuff bombing around youtube. His car is insane.
My 2nd try; want to see if this one plays on my Ipad

Two questions:
1. When I open my video from my laptop, I get an error message; then the Youtube window opens and plays the video. Other videos give same error message, but will play only in the Youtube window
2. From my Ipad, I get a blank box where the video should be. Others, except one, appear normal and play fine. What's up ?

Jim, I get the same thing with the Ipad. If the video was loaded with flash, or some other microsoft-apple battle, they just won't play it. I would have bought a droid tablet before this Ipad any day, but a gift is a gift.

Uh, Flash is Adobe, not Microsoft. And Flash is CRAP.
Jim, I wouldn't expect it to work correctly on an iPad due to there being no Flash on iPad. Flash is the software that makes the video work.

From the Ipad I can see all the videos on this thread except the following posts: 3, 33, 35, 36
All the other posts with videos play fine; and they play within the window.

I'd bet that it has something to do with how YouTube encodes those particular files. The owner of the files can set a few option at upload time. If the wrong options are chosen, perhaps they are not 'iPad compatible'.

Didn't mean to imply flash was microsoft, I meant flash or some other microsoft/apple battle
If you use the youtube app to watch video, it will only display what is compatible. If you go directly to youtube, about 30-40% of the videos won't play. I've even had them not play on yahoo, google, and some news sites.

Since I have the experts attention, I have a question. Can I upload a video taken on my cannon digital camera to Youtube ? I have an account, but never tried uploading anything

Sure, and if you have windows, Movie Maker is fun to play with. Load it in there, you can edit and add soundtracks, titles, whatever, and it's free and already there ! I'm no expert at all.

Thanks for the heads up, I have Movie Maker. Looks like it's user friendly.

The ones that won't play on my Ipad have "&feature=player_embedded" at the end of the code we use. Works ok on 914World though.

I think it is faster to just type out
CODE
[youtube]paste the youtube name[/youtube]
Less steps, and you can do it from the "quick reply" window. Zach

Well since my behind the scene test became the example, I did try the shortlink first but that didn't work either. This long url I just used was supposed to be the embed link?
Andy, your example shows the pink code bar, is that what I should be looking for? Us computer unlearned want to know.
Posted by: Eric_Shea Sep 6 2011, 08:55 PM
My guess is you didn't grab all of the code in the short link the first time.
-> C6b54bZepoA <-

One last try tonight. (Nevermind it will have to be on a different machine).

The "code" in pink is needed to show you what you need to type. I have to wrap it in a "code" block because otherwise what i type would show the actual video and not what you need to type. Makes sense?
ONLY type the words in the white section of the "code" block. You start by typing the word youtubewith the brackets around, then you type the youtube video identifier C6b54bZepoA the you type the word youtubewith the brackets around but precede youtube with a forward slash.
Just like shown in the white portion of the "code" example below. It's really as easy as just typing this out:
I do seem to have problems when the code ends with "=related" (or ends with = anything), I've tried doing it with and without the "=related" ending and still have problems. What am I doing wrong in this case?
Example: (youtube)XYZ(/youtube) no problem
(youtube)XYZ=related(/youtube) problem

Embedding youtube videos here only works with the youtube ID tag. You can't add any additional parameters, like "related". That won't work. You need to strip off anything that is not part of the actual ID tag.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=15191 How about you start by reading the instructions in the first post in this thread?
You didn't even try, you just copy&pasted a link to the video ...
All you need to do is type this in your post (without the CODE part, which is just a fancy title for a section that prints code without interpreting it):
Well then I guess this confirms what I’ve suspected all along. I’m in idiot!! Lol! I can’t even figure out how to post pictures to my posts on this forum/site. I have gone over the instructions many times…and nothing! I have asked for clarification, no reply. So I give up.oh well…

Victory! Fast forward for Jeff Zwart celebratory donuts!
I don’t see any of the embeds here or the one I tried on my recent thread, what gives?
FWIW, I’m using an iPad and I’m wondering if that is the problem?
Posted by: iankarr Mar 21 2022, 01:45 AM
Could be. The latest version of Safari won't let me call for a video here. I have to use Chrome. The syntax is simple when you're on a compatible browser. See @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=179 s post #92

Definitely an ipad issue. I was even using chrome on the ipad. I'm logged in from work this morning and I can see all the videos. I guess on the upside, at least I was linking correctly.
iPad? Seems impossible. Posting? Go to different room, turn on computer, wait, learn how to cut and past, fail a few times, hassle. No.

Yeah, for whatever reason this no longer works on IOS devices. I’ve tried both Safari and Chrome on my iPhone running IOS 15.3.1 and neither will resolve the YouTube links. Used to work fine. Annoying.
Works from my PC. Don’t have an Android to test from.
I'm not sure who built the YouTube embed feature (to whom I should direct this) but:
Could the code be tweaked so that in addition to displaying the embedded video, it also displays the video URL above/below the video?
I'm limited to using Safari (for personal browsing) on my work computer and it's frustrating that embedded videos are just completely absent with no way to tell what it is.
Thanks!

That's odd. I use Safari and don't have that issue.
