914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 911 starter for 914

Posted by: mharrison Mar 8 2004, 04:01 PM

Is Worldwide Part #16426 the 1.5 hp starter? I am looking for a cheap higher power starter to use in my 72 1.7 liter.

Will the starter from a 72 911 S (The above part number) work on a 914?

I'm not sure which year starters will work and which won't. I looked in the archives and didn't see this part number listed anywhere.

Matt,

That is a Lester number and yes it will work. The difference between the stock (16300 or SR17X) and this one (16426 or SR68X) is the hp. The stock starter is 0.8 kW (also used on the 911) and this one is 1.5 kW. You may also find the poles on the solenoid slightly different. It will work and you won't believe how fast the motor will spin/

That is cool. This starter is available for $89.00 at Autozone. They've been around $140 or more everywhere else I've seen them.

I'm ordering one today!

Is that out right? or is there a core charge? Can you turn in your .08 hp starter as a core? Great deal! I don't have an Auto Zone here!

You can still buy it! http://www.autozone.com
There is a core charge of $40.00.

I'm going to take my .08 HP up there and see if they'll accept it. (I can return the core locally)

I changed from a 0.8hp to a used 1.5Hp starter recently to help with the 'hot-start' issues I was experiencing. It is a little larger and heavier but 'feels' so much more powerful. aktion035.gif

I did have problems getting places to accept my 0.8Hp starter motor as a core though. In fact I've still got it!

the $89 911 starter is also available from Stoddards. it's not the cheap alternative, but the high torque starter really turns the engine with now problem
