Has anyone ever installed scissors doors (i.e. lambo diablo)? I think this would look good on a 914. What do you'all think?
It would look cool when? Driving down the road?
Or when you are trying to drain your battery by letting your car sit there with the doors open and the interior light on? Remember to turn it off!
Not for me! I guess I think Lambo or something, and this car had different lines.
You've been watching too much "American Hotrod" ...
Haven't seen it done (on a 914, anyway), can't see why anyone would want to spend $$$ to do it, but hey, it's your car!
Smoke another one and think about it some more....
Man.. I thought I was an asshole. Do you guy's know this guy ??

As I said on the Bird board, I haven't even heard of someone thinking about this one--let alone actually doing it! There are "universal kits" out there, and you might be able to make one work... But I think it'll take a whooooooole lotta welding and fabrication to do so!
--DD
It is becoming common place in the Ricer world..

How do questions like this always get more "It can't be done" answers then "No, I haven't seen it answers". For all you guys know he'll put scissor doors on his 914 and do a bad ass job and you'll all say, "Whoa, that's cool!" The more I think about it if this car had driven up all done I bet there isn't one person who would knock it as hard as ya'll have.
Sure, who knows why you would do it, but it's great to see people have interest in their cars. What have you done to your car lately?
Hey how about suicide doors...or a gullwing 914
Don't think there are much we as a group have not done....but some stuff is just stoopid...
The suicide doors would actually be pretty easy. I learned from a Hot Rod builder how to do them.
The Gullwing setup might be difficult. No solid roofline to mount the pivot point too.

Hey, scissor doors could have come in handy for me a few times on two door 2+2 cars that I have owned. The doors are kind of long, so its hard to get the doors open enough to get out easily when somebody parks too close. Also on a really low street car, a scissor door on the passenger side would let the passenger get out when parked next to a high curb.
So you see, scissor doors are actually necessary.

Reminds me of the new Volvo with the gull-wing doors.
That's exactly what Mommy needs: A car where she can't open the doors in the supermarket parking lot...
Scissor doors block the door opening when they are open. Gullwing doors are more practical (?) because if properly done, they make getting in and out easier than a stock car. I tried to talk Zach into gullwing doors on his but he wasn't going for it even though I tried to convince him that car would go faster (insert smily emoticon). Either type of modification is a huge job! If I was doing a 914 instead of a Ghia gullwing, I would either make the doors removable to keep the open roof concept or make t-tops that pop out leaving the doors in place. Here is my gullwing and t-top album:

You ever seen an old guy get out of a 914 with the top off? Hook right arm over windshield and grunt! With scissor doors you could hook a little strap to your belt and it would pull you up automatically, no un-manly grunting as your belly gets intertwined with the steering wheel!
Hey, I resemble that remark!!!
I used to be able to get out pretty easily, but with the race buckets, it's getting harder. Now if I can just loose that extra 25 lbs around my middle It would help.
Back to subject; I have not seen an aftermarket sissor door look good. IMO, if you want a Lamborghini, buy a lamborghini.
Hey I think I might know where you can get a Lambo cheap! Half off!
I was just looking for info on the doors, I guess its like body kits either you like them or the guy was stupid for butchering the car.
The one thing I am amazed at is that its OK to butcher the heck out of a 914 to stick in a V8 but try to come up with something different and then I'm the idioit.
I don't think you are an idiot at all.
