Purchased this '73 2.0L from an owner who has had the car since 1974. Says that the car was actually A PACE CAR from the Indianapolis 500?? Had a decal on the side when he owned it.
Has anyone heard of a 914 being involved at Indy? Would be cool to find out (confirm/deny). He is looking for the original photos.
Can anyone come up with photos of a 914 at Indy? (Pace car, Safety car, etc)?

No Porsche Indy Pace cars ever that I could find.
You can find a list of the pace cars : http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/500pace.htm
Daytona 1971 (However, these are factory 6 cars):

Somewhere I've seen a pic of a 914 pace car at Daytona for NASCAR in the early 70's. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm sure that's what I remember about the pic.
EDIT: Found the pic. It looks to me like it is 1971 on the front hood. It must be NASCAR because it's the Daytona 500 and not 24 hours. Or was IMSA around in 1971???

a 914 paced an Indy car race, but it was in California not at Indianapolis.
T.C.
One was used as the safety car for the Canadian GP once at Mosport; in fact it was the first time ever Formula One employed a safety car. 1973 Sunflower Yellow 2.0
I don't know if it was a pace car or not, but that is a nice looking car.
Good find and of course...
An imported car as the pace car in the Indy 500????
The Big Three and the UAW would riot.
Perhaps it paced a Can/Am race? According to this site, that happened several times: http://members.rennlist.com/914_canam/CanamRacingHeritage.htm
I have photos of a few 914 Pace cars, all that I have ever seen here:

Daytona, Laguna Seca etc, but no Indy.
