are all factory VW 2.0 litre cylinders the same?

I am talking about 914 vs bus vs van 2.0 cylinders.

I know the heads were different of course, but I don't know about the cylinders. We need a set and want to make sure we don't get the wrong part.

Nope....bus ones are dished...lower compression.

Dished cylinders? :finger2:

Yeah, they're all the same. Only difference might be fin thickness. I've seen sets of cylinders with different fin thicknesses that seemed to both be original equipment.

What about the 1.7 cylinders? Are they all the same? Bus vs 914?
I cannot find the casting number on my heads in any 914 literature. wacko.gif

Same applies. See my previous post. As long as you're talking 1.7 - 1.7

Not quite all the same.
The original OE cylinder is better then the replacements quality-wise.

If its for 96's look for the VW part number at the base of the fins for an OE jug. I think you can also use 93mm (1.8) jugs for the 96's.

914 1.7 heads have 39 intake 33 exhaust. I *think* bus heads have really small valves like 33 intake.

All the cylinder head differences are noted at http://www.tunacan.net/t4

Thanks Mark, that site is exactly what I was looking for.
My heads are 371 J's and all I could find were 351's on Porsche sites.
Now that I know they are the same configuration and those numbers were used on 914's I can put the engine back together knowing it is still alll original.
