914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Rear Bumpertops Finally! After alot of trial and error

Posted by: Mikey914 Sep 27 2009, 11:59 PM

For those of you that hjave been following the production of the rear tops, I have finally got all the bugs worked out. I kept having the interal stainless structure blow into the top edge at the licence plate wells. I'm having to play with the water jet cutter to make the shape I need to make this work correctly. These do have the suport running from the edge mounts through the center mount so the section will not droop where the licence plate goes.

After the run is started these will go to $286

Who needs one?

Don't need money now, just a list of those that will be needing them, I'll forward out the payment specifics later.

These are the same dimensions as the OEM, so if your OEM ones fit, these will too.

yes please, one for me too.

Posted by: Mikey914 Sep 30 2009, 09:56 PM

I did have a few questions on these, mainly will the bumper sag where the licence plate gap is. The answer no. They do have an internal suport that runs across this area, it is also stainless and is contoured to sit right at the licence plate light void. This piece is what was giving me headaches for the last 6 weeks. The dimensions have to be right on or it can get blown into the top of the bumper or not cler on the light voids.

And yes ALL METAL I use in the construction of these IS STAINLESS STEEL.

Mark, I received the top this afternoon! I got it home and it was very well packaged!

After removing the bubble wrap, full length plastic bag and the three 1 x 2 wood supports from the bumper top there she was!

Beautiful work buddy! I can't wait to put both front and rear bumper tops on the car. If you haven't already done so, pick one or two of these up!

Posted by: daveyboybadion Oct 12 2009, 11:37 PM

Mark, I'll take one also...daveyboy

Posted by: Mikey914 Oct 13 2009, 01:08 AM

I actually had to add the wood support as I wanted to keep any possible deformation from occurring. As it's thinner in the center it if got dropped on one end the weight could possibly cause it to bend out of shape it it got a good enough drop. I may be over cautious here but it's easier than trying to work out a freight claim.

Thanks for the pics, look forward to seeing it installed.

I will be closing the prepurchse on these 10/14/09.

Thanks to all that have signed up your support has been key to getting these off the ground, and helping to fund future projects. There are a few comming up that I'm sure you'll all like.
