HI Guys.

My name is Adrian and I live in the UK..I own and have owned Porsche for the last 24 years and I have admired the 914 for soo long!
The 914 is a very rare sight on UK roads and the time has now come that I need to scratch my itch for a 914..

So I am looking for a super nice, standard 914 of any year to buy that is located in the UK...
If you are thinking of selling or know of a car that may be available please send me a message.

Regards

Does the car have to be in England or are you willing to get a car shipped?

Posted by: OllieG Jul 22 2014, 06:29 AM

…my advice is 'be willing to buy and ship from the US'. Greatest choice of cars, best prices and plenty of knowledgeable and trust-worthy sellers on 914World… My experience is the added hassle of shipping and duties IS worth the effort.

Do your homework and buy from a respected 914World member.. biggrin.gif

I must admit I am a little nervous of buying a car that I cant actually see in the flesh!

Posted by: Saturn63 Jul 22 2014, 12:53 PM

Hello ,
I own a 914, well its just been imported from California, the shipping will cost you 3000 pounds including uk homogulation tax registering MOT etc.. you will pay approx 1500 for shipping the rest will be the above .You cannot really save much unless you pick up the car yourself in the uk and do the work yourself , I calculate that 1000 pounds has to be paid to DVLC for road tax , mot registering etc.
so you need to look at approx 30000 for all shipping and costs in uk and Customs and excise will cost you approx 4 to 6 hundred pounds as long as your shipper states that the car will be a classical work of art , great loophole!
you should spend nothing under 9 to 12 thousand pounds to get a daily driver in very good condition , you want an original unmolested example from years 73 to 74 and with a 2 litre engine, idealy you should get an original matching engine car, the price of a good one has been steadily increasing over the last 2 to 3 years , people in the know are getting the good ones now as they beleive its going to be a real sleeper classic, I live in Surrey, if you need any help , email me on alphonsolowing@hotmail.com.
by the way get the original fuel injection , worth more and dont touch conversions from fuel injection to carbs
The 914 gang are the best that I have met , their knowlege beats the hell of any other site , and that includes Porsche Uk , take a bow 914 world ! welcome.png

Hi is your car in Galway still available? If yes, do you have any details you can send, and a price? Cheers, Simon (UK based and just joined forum)

Hi JD,

Thanks - that sounds and looks fantastic. Problem is I have a significantly lower budget than that right now so I'll have to pass, sorry. If it's still available in about a year I could come back to it, but not now.

Thanks again and good luck,

Simon

There is a guy in London selling a very clean black 2.0, his name is Richard, he had it on EBay username goodatmagic but didn't hit the reserve.

I know he has listed it on another site and is looking for £11500.

I can get his mobile or email address if you're interested

I spent all last weekend at the Classics at the Castle event, it was nice to see so many 914's on display. There was even a 914-6 GT on display near the Porsche Museum displays.

There was a very nice silver 1970 914-6 for sale in the 35,000 pound range. I spent some time looking it over and it's a very nice car originally from Northern California, spent the last 14 years in the U.K. (garaged). I think it's a very good price for a rare car.

If you want to see some pics of the event...go to the "Porsche Classics at the Castle" facebook page.

Cheers!

Dominic

Another bump up guys. beerchug.gif

Hi there,

Sorry to see you're still looking. I have just bought a car from California and it's currently on the boat making its way over…not for sale though, sorry.

I had it independently appraised before paying for it and yes it is a risk - there's always a chance it could go wrong sure…but you take your chances! Who's to say a car you buy in the UK won't go wrong after you've bought it? I would still recommend you go the US route. I think you could be waiting a long long time for the right car to show up in the UK and be paying top top money for it. Camperco on DDK does have a few for sale..nothing there?

If you buy an original car from the US with minimal modification, you only pay 5% duty. Shipping and clearing-fees run to about £1K -£1.5K.

My honest advice would be to buy from a reputable guy on 914World…someone like 914ltd. First off, through emails and conversations you'll get a sense of the character of the seller; then get it independently appraised by a local appraiser. They'll give you a basic report for about $400. If you want, for more cash, they can often take the car away and do a more detailed inspection on ramps and can check engine compression, body structure etc..

Best cars are most definitely in the US flag.gif …southern and western states are better for low-rot chassis (no 914 is rot free!!). I have bought 2 cars from the US in the past, one from Las Vegas, one from outside LA.

Just my 2 'pence'…very best of luck. Watching with interest.

Thanks Ollie..i still cant get my head around not checking over a car personally before handing over my money..I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that a 914 wont happen for me..The ones I have been offered in the uk are ridiculously overpriced or are rough and rusty..Its been an eye opener TBH and I honestly think some people think I have MUG tattooed on my forehead!

Ahh, that's a shame. I guess if you are super patient something may show up in the UK. You're looking for a really nice original driver right...not a project?

If you do get any leads, drop me a PM and I'll gladly give you any advice..

It would be a shame for you to miss out on owning a 914! One last thing, I do have a close personal friend, a British expat who was my best-man at my wedding who lives in LA...so if you do change your mind and a car shows up nearby I'm sure he would check it out for you..

All the best, Ollie.

You could try a fellow 914 er in Germany Hess automobiles http://www.914er-teile.de he has some Us imports forsale and a tad closer to go and visit yourself.
I bought a rebuilder and it's coming on well, there's a large shipment of bit on its way from Mark at 914rubber, super helpful guy as well.
My 50 cents a matching numbers car isn't that big a deal, we're not talking million dollar vehicles here, as for shipping I priced a car and shipping from Middle America, $4000 vehicle and the best quote including pick up, container shipping, vat and duties £1950 but a bit like yourself I wanted to look myself as it was a rebuilder, probably paid the same money for a car that needs a little more work but it's in my workshop now.

Ok thanks for that.I will try a little longer to locate a uk car and then may explore that avenue.

Not that it helps you right now, but I sold my Black ex CA 74 1.7 right around the time of your original post

I used it as a daily driver during the summer into London for years. I was not perfect / could have done with chrome bumpers fitting (never got around to it), however it was solid

I was super busy at the time / didn't have time to deal with the ebay tyre kickers / let it go for less than it was worth. Kicking myself now....

Keep looking, they are about. I would also have a good look at some of the Netherlands specialists. 914's are big in the low countries and not too far to go if you think you have found the 'one'Attached Image
